ABOUT MAVIN GLOBAL

mavin (n) - one who is knowledgeable; an expert. Mavin Global Company is a for-profit corporation headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2007, our team of leaders in fields such as IT Management Consulting, Product Development, and Education founded this organization to empower others through technology. We began working to attract the best and brightest minds capable of innovating and facilitating business growth on a large scale. Finally, we aim to be global, part of a global movement of connection and enterprise between nations and individuals for the betterment of the worldwide quality of life. As leaders, we believe we have a responsibility to use our skills not just for profit, but to educate and enable. To achieve this mission, we built our corporate model around the following process:

1. COMMUNITY: Identify and recognize social issues being faced by local, national, and global entities. 2. EDUCATION AND RESEARCH: Develop theories and hypothesis on solutions to issues. 3. PRODUCTS: Develop technology products, through software and hardware, which can implement theories into product form. 4. SERVICES: Ensure products are properly implemented and utilized in society.

SPOTLIGHT:
Changing how we learn and teach to better prepare the workforce
The national unemployment rate in November of 2011 was at 8.6%, and yet in a recent survey of 40% of the participating businesses reported having unfulfilled positions for the past six months.1 Clearly, there is a break somewhere in the system that is hindering jobseekers from connecting with open job positions. So how can the situation be resolved? A new approach to learning has been through sectoral skills training where the internship model should be taken to the classroom. Students practice their classroom lessons on real projects created by partner companies. Students in this model have been better prepared for the workplace and more attractive to employers. We at Mavin have been studying the use of technology in providing sectoral skills training to the classroom. Imagine if a company can put a sample project online and university students worldwide can work on the project. Not only do the students gain valuable experience, but companies can grow their candidate pool and identify the students best-suited for their work environment. Some of the questions we seek to answer are: Can Sectoral Skills Training be enhanced by technology? When is the most effective time to move to a sectoral focus? After completing this process, are students prepared for the workforce and able to innovate in their fields?
