A Peek at the Week

New Words to know:

New Skills include: Language Arts: Making Predictionsthis week we will focus on Making Predictions as we read books. We may make predictions in the middle of a book or at the end of a book. Your child will need to draw a picture of their prediction.what will happen next? A prediction has to make sense according to the story clues given in the story leading up to their prediction.

Popcorn Words/High Frequency Words to Practice

red, yellow, a, I, blue, green, we orange, purple, like, at, black, brown, see, it pink, white, go, my gray, to, the These are all the words your child will be tested on for the 1st 9 weeks report card! This assessment can happen anytime in the next 2 weeks.

Continuation of: Print Concepts

-- Counting words in sentences. This is a skill that goes with print concepts and increasing your childs awareness of text in books as they read. When you are reading books to your child at home , have them count the words in a short sentence. (3 to 5 words) Have your child tell you how many words there are. Often the students want to count the letters in every word in the sentence. We will continue to practice at school as well.

From the Teachers Desk:

It is jacket weather! Be sure your child has a jacket each and every day. Sometimes they may want a light jacket even in the school building. The temperature changes from day to day and room to room. We are practicing taking our jackets off the correct way.. There is a correct way? Well if you are in Kindergarten there is because if you take your jacket off wrong your sleeves end up inside your coat. Guess What? When the sleeves are inside they are hard to get out. Teach your child to hold their sleeves on their coats and jackets when they are taking them off. Teach your child to reach in a pull their sleeves out if they are stuck inside

AND most importantly start letting your child zip or fasten their own coat! YEP on their own..thats how they learn.
Winter will be here before you know it and students need to be able to zip and or fasten their own coats daily.
Have a great week! Mrs. Hay
