No, it is not possible to really believe something and not live it; but it is possible to not always believe

something. Ive lied and I know that lying is wrong but in that moment that I lie I do not believe that lying is wrong otherwise I would not lie. The case is the same with cursing. Although Ive cursed before, and will do so again, that does not mean that I do not know that it is sinful. It simply means that when I am committing that act of sin I cease to believe that it is sinful. As sinful beings we will not be able to be completely filled with the Holy Spirit until Jesus second coming. And until we are completely filled with the Holy Spirit we are liable to sin. However, this does not make sin right in any sense but rather shows that by being filled with the Spirit we cannot sin and we will believe 100% of the time. Since that is not yet the case and we are still sinful we repeatedly stop believing, or relying, on God. Reliance is using something for support. This could mean that one might rely upon their sense of sight to distinguish between two people; or it could mean that you rely on God. Regardless of who or what you rely on, you use them for support. In Psalm 119:117, David says Hold me up, and I shall be safe, And I shall observe Your statutes continually. Here David is relying upon God so that he may follow Gods commands. As people we constantly rely close to everything except God. This is shown from the very foods we eat all the way down to the clothes we wear. For example, if I were to go to the grocery store and buy some eggs, I am relying upon the store and the egg manufacturer to give me a good quality product. The same could be said with Americas obsession with Apple products; because previous products have been of prime quality, we rely on this information for future buying habits. Unfortunately as a society, Christians and non-Christians alike, hardly ever rely on God. From the grocery store example to our Apple product obsession, we never ever look up to the heavens and consult God. Even here

at HCA we dont really do it. Through the writing of this paper, I have been relying upon myself and not God to get a good grade. The very subject I am writing about and I still am so sinful to rely upon myself! This shunning of reliance on God reverberates through our entire lives, whether we realize it or not. Knowledge is impossible without reliance; partly because the definition of knowledge is reliance on a verifiable truth, but also because to verify anything, you must first rely on whatever it is you are using to verify the given truth. For example, suppose I am eating a green apple. I can clearly see that the apple is green with my eyes. However, the keen observer would notice that it is not my brain nor arm nor leg that is doing the seeing. Rather, it is my eyes that are picturing the apple and sending that picture to my brain. It seems obvious and stupid at first glance but suppose I am color blind and I see that the green apple is really red. I may believe that the apple is red but, in fact, regardless of my perception, it is objectively green. It would be impossible to know anything without relying on someone or something. Also, the second half of the definition is that it must be a verifiable truth. This is key, as I may rely on an idea, but without verification I dont know if anything is actually true at all. In the case with me perceiving the green apple as red, I can verify with others what color it is just by asking them what color the apple is. The importance of this cannot be stressed enough as the distinction between knowledge and belief is often blurred and distorted. The distinction between knowledge and belief or faith is vital to understanding if it is possible to really believe something and not live it. In Isaiah 43:10, the words know and believe are both used, You are My witnesses, says the Lord, And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me. This is another fact that seems insignificant but is actually

very important. Both know and believe were used in the same verse signifying that they are not the same. For example, although all men know that God exists not all men believe that He exits. This is written in Romans 1:18-20 which says, For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. Here Paul states that all men know because all they have to do is look around and see what has been created to know that He exits. However, although they know He exists they still do not believe. This is key because the definition of believe is choosing to rely. Those who reject God are choosing to reject what they already know to be true! However, not just atheists reject God but Christians do too. It happens every time that anyone sins. This is because we choose to sin rather than accept the truth of God. To use the definition of believe in context, we choose to rely on ourselves and reject (not rely) on God. Just as there are serious differences between knowledge and belief, the same can be said for hope and faith. People often assume that hope
