INCA 2 Installation Guide

Introduction
This guide provides information and guidelines on the installation of an INCA 2 unit (version DB8202-A-10), and covers: Placement considerations Wiring considerations INCA 2 ports and connections Updating INCA 2 software and firmware Viewing diagnostic information

To check the version of the INCA 2 units you are installing, look
at the label on the underside of the INCA 2 units.

For information on how to install DB8201-A-10 and DB8201-B10 INCA 2 units, see version 5 of this guide. For information on INCA 2 that is not covered in this guide, refer to the following guides: INCA 2 Overview for an introduction to INCA 2 and the event table. INCA 2 Installation Guide

Installation Checklist
To install an INCA 2 unit you will require the following: an INCA 2 unit a fused source of 12V or 24V DC a GPS antenna a vehicle interface lead

Depending on the circumstances, you may also have: a Mobile Data Terminal a mounting bracket a GPRS antenna

Placement Considerations
INCA 2 is designed for fitting in vehicles. Consider all of the following when you are planning or undertaking an INCA 2 installation: Orientation INCA 2 can be mounted in any orientation, however, it is recommended that the unit be positioned so that the LEDs are visible. Exposure to Moisture an INCA 2 unit is NOT waterproof and you should select a vehicle placement that will keep it dry such as inside the cab or load compartment. Exposure to Heat avoid placing an INCA 2 in a position that might expose it to excessive heat. Choose a placement that: enables air to circulate around the unit keeps the unit out of direct sunlight

Exposure to Interference ensure that the antenna cables are kept away from possible sources of interference. Physical Attachment the unit needs to be securely attached to the vehicle. Mounting Bracket the mounting holes needed for the bracket are shown in the diagram below. Where possible you should use the outer holes, with M4 or No.8 pan head or flanged screws.

Wiring Considerations
The wiring required to install an INCA 2 unit will vary according to the particular application, and will be based on detailed discussions regarding the specific implementation of the AVLS system. This section provides information that you must be aware of when considering the wiring of an INCA 2 unit.

INCA 2 connections are NOT the same as INCA connections

For more information on INCA 2 ports and connections, see INCA 2 Ports and Connections on page 9.

Outputs
INCA 2 has up to four digital outputs, each of which provides a voltage output. The outputs get their power from an external source on the OUTC pin on the interface connector. The OUTC pin is typically connected to BREF. Each output is capable of supplying up to 200 mA. The outputs are shared with four of the inputs, so the number of outputs available depends on how INCA 2 is configured. Typical applications of outputs include: Relays Indicators Solenoids

A typical connection is:

Batt OUTC INCA 2 LOAD

HW001D40/6

Wiring Considerations

Inputs
INCA 2 has up to eight digital inputs (four are shared with outputs and four are on dedicated pins). Typical applications of inputs include: Switches for doors or lights Alarms

Typical connections are:

For more information on INCA 2 ports and connections, see INCA 2 Ports and Connections on page 9.

Circuit Protection
INCA 2 must be fused externally. It is essential to use a fuse on the positive lead connecting the battery to the unit. It is recommended that the fuse be of an anti-surge type located close to the vehicle battery and must be rated at no more than 5A. In accordance with good vehicle installation practice, APD also recommend that you use a fuse on the negative lead. The fuse used on the negative lead must be of an equal rating as the fuse used on the positive lead.

Cable Types
Ethernet RS232 DTE and DCE GPS CAT5 or better Must be screened Must be RG223/U, RG174/U, or RG316/U. Cable lengths should be no more than 3m for passive antennas and no more than 8m for active antennas. Must be RG223/U, RG174/U, or RG216/U double screened. It is recommended that the cable lead length is kept below 5m. Use 24 20 AWG wire

Viewing INCA 2 diagnostic information

Viewing INCA 2 diagnostic information

You can view diagnostic information for an INCA 2 by connecting to it using a Type-A to Type-B USB cable and running a telnet session.

Port 23 must be open to run a telnet session to an INCA 2.

To run a telnet session to an INCA 2: 1. 2. Make sure the INCA 2 is powered on. Connect your computer to the INCA 2 using a USB Type-A to Type-B cable. This uses the USB Type-B port on the INCA 2:

USB Type-B port

If you are prompted for a driver for the USB connection, use the oem8.inf driver file on the INCA 2 installation CD. 3. 4. Click the Windows Start button and select Run to open the windows Run dialog. In the Run dialog type telnet 192.168.2.1 and click OK .0. This displays the INCA 2 diagnostics information:

Use the keys shown on this screen to navigate through the diagnostic information. To return to the Options Menu at any time use the space bar.
