MESSAGE BY

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE CHIEF MINISTER OF PENANG

YAB MR. LIM GUAN ENG

Selamat datang and welcome to the widely anticipated and highly energetic sports event in Malaysia - the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon!

Every year, we welcome tens of thousands of marathon enthusiasts not only from Malaysia but also from all over the world to our beautiful state. Last year, 10% of the 24,000 participants were international runners from 69 different countries!

My advice to all the runners, do take this opportunity to enjoy Penang, as we have so much to offer from our white sandy beaches, beautiful heritage to our world famous delicacies. In fact, our mouth-watering Penang Laksa was recently listed as the seventh most delicious food in the world by CNN. On top of that, Yahoo.com named Penang as one of the Top 10 Islands to Visit Before You Die in January this year. This is the fourth time the marathon has been organised by the Penang State Tourism Development and Cultural Executive Committee. As we grow from strength to strength, we hope that the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon can match international standards and expectations. In our quest towards making Penang an international and intelligent city, we must also be a location of choice to investors; destination of choice to tourists; habitat of choice to those who desire a sustainable living and of course, a site of choice to premier sporting events.

The Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon is one step towards achieving these goals. Aside from bringing massive amounts of visitors to Penang annually, the marathon encourages people regardless of age, faith and background to pursue a healthy lifestyle and challenge their physical and emotional limits. Good luck to all the runners and hope you will have an unforgettable time at the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon 2011. Thank you. Lim Guan Eng The Right Honourable Chief Minister of Penang

MESSAGE BY

STATE EXCO FOR PENANG TOURISM DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURE, CHAIRMAN OF APBIM

YB DANNY LAW HENG KIANG

After months of preparation, the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon 2011 is finally here. This year, we welcome a few new sponsors, mainly our title sponsor Allianz from Germany who is the worlds largest insurance company and Titan Watches from India which is the fifth largest manufacturer of watches in the world. Without the support of these generous sponsors the marathon will be far from successful. The kind support from these international companies also establishes the fact that the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon is now recognised internationally as a significant marathon event in the world sports arena. For registered runners, congratulations for taking up this challenge to test your physical boundaries! You are now part of the largest running event in Malaysia. This is also your chance to run on the beautiful Penang Bridge and truly enjoy the beautiful scenery of Penang at the break of dawn. There are four main categories this year, which are the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km Run and Fun Run.

Last year, 24,000 runners participated in the marathon. We hope the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon 2011 will attract more participants compared to last year. This year, we can also observe more improvements and positive progress especially in regards to the preparation of the marathon. Even the main design and logo of the marathon have received many commendations and praises. This has prompted us to organise a competition at the beginning of next year in search of the best design concept for Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012. Besides that, we are also looking forward to co-operate with more international cities for the future Penang marathon in order to attract more international runners. We believe that the Penang marathon is a great contributor to the Penang economy and tourism industry and we hope to increase the current contributions greatly in the future. Before I end my message, I would like to extend my gratitude to all who have been involved in making this event a success. To all the runners, I wish you the best of luck and for the international and outof-state participants; enjoy your stay in Penang! With that, thank you very much.

YB Danny Law Heng Kiang State Exco For Penang Tourism Development And Culture, Chairman of APBIM
