The estimated aggregate of the book collections of the Library in the
scattered depnrtments in which they nrenow etored amounts to 710,470
volumes and about 225,000 pamphlets.
The copyright business exhibits a further increase, notwithstnndiilg
the general depressiou which continues to check commercial and
rnccl~a~~ical euterprisc, and the increase is in pnrt attributable to the
steady, though not mpid, extension of the internatioi~al copyright
arrnngemeuts, of which publishers and authors in foreign countries are
availing themselves. This increase, however, is nlnch lilore in the
direction of muaical publications and works of the graphic arts than of
literature.
