THE IMPENDING TRANSITION:

Recent Formulations, Figures & the Oncoming Shift

A.A.O. In Class X

On the progression of what might be called official limbs upon the tree of proper occult lineage, such bodies, groups and orders had spontaneously appeared and decayed by the moment. Indeed, it was only when such hardened practices and outlooks, if we are to peer within the annals of history, had gained a relative following and acknowledgment that they had later been declared as crystallized nodes within the steadfast unfolding of the occult impulse at large. This is only half of the story, however, as any such official limb had by counterpart not only founded itself on what had come before (which is more of a natural process than forced event) but had held some connections to those individuals who had manifested the bodies of data by which any subsequent collective had followed and founded itself upon. This illustrates nothing more but for the standing upon the shoulders of previous giants, of which all occult orders or experiments, and popular or not, are thereby guilty of and guided by. Indeed, it is naught but the natural progression of amorphous, idealized forms and relevant ideas which any practitioner might utilize as the agent of personal change, fulfillment and ultimate result. Thereby, one may already be familiar with the tree of occult tradition which is held at the forefront of Peter Carrolls Liber Null & Psychonaut. This tree, which we shall again present upon the next page, illustrates a natural progression of familial lineage, which each prior form in some ways lending the building blocks for what will become the next form, given at times, a hundred or more years in between their periods of historical emergence. It is not often that a completely unique derivation emerges via some unforeseen or unacknowledged source, if at all. All nodes resonate from the former.

Although the founders of the IOT, being a popular and culturally hardened occult order at this time, had in no ways acclaimed contact with either Aleister Crowley or Spare, they had however garnered some contact and appreciation with some of their disciples and friends, one of which was Israel Regardie, one time secretary of Aleister Crowley, and of whom Crowley eventually became very fond of. He gives an introduction in Robert Anton Wilsons Prometheus Rising, though unfortunately being lost to the tradition as of March 10, 1985. Indeed, it is usually the case that any proper limb upon the tree has sparse or lasting contact with one who is capable of linking the ongoing lineage, alongside an acknowledged or lasting importance on its own part when concerning the groups or individuals own works. For Discordianism and Chaos Magic, these were the likes of Israel and others, perhaps including some friends or disciples of Austin Spare, although research here is lacking. This particular time of Chaos and Discord (emergent in the 1960s and 1970s) had likewise served as a magickal revival when carried onto the United States, though surely triggered in Europe, which in turn had served to manifest the current most occult atmosphere which we all have become very acutely aware of today. Indeed, all and any reasons as to the emergence of the so-called New Age Movement may be firmly placed upon the revival begun in the 60s and 70s, whereby the writings of Aleister Crowley received a tremendous resurgence, alongside the growing popularity of entheogens (psychedelics) and those who risked career and freedom to both research and advocate them, which in turn contributed to a veritable boom within the underground of both America and Europe which

served to assuage and enable the growing discontent of the collective youth in favor of what Terence Mckenna called the archaic revival, identified by its sexual promiscuity and deviance, bizarre beliefs, growing appreciation of conspiracy theory, alternative lifestyles, Hippyism, occult practice, drug use, artistic iconoclasm, and other such examples, where applicable. Also during this time was found the emergence of the Church of Satan by one Anton LaVey, as well as the advances in Quantum Mechanics and Chaos Theory which had served as the motivational device for what would become the modern incarnation of the Illuminates of Thanateros, or the IOT. It was a period in time which most of us shall never experience, though if this proves a tad depressing for the reader, then it would do him well to know that a similar resurgence is happening at this very moment, and very likely under his very nose. For instance, the cultural variables which are at play, today, largely mirror and in some ways trump the excited period between the 60s and 70s by many examples. For one, the West finds itself within a war which the majority of the population are against (mirroring Vietnam), including large scale riots and all sorts of responses which are expected from an existential population. Also within our time is mirrored the sudden emergence of a new, catalytic drug, and multiple numbers of them, although for us it is not the fabled LSD-25, but Salvia Divinorum (discovered well before, though becoming popular much later) as well as the 2C class of experimental psychedelic chemicals which are becoming all the more prevalent in the practices of modern psychonauts today. Indeed, within our time, we have also observed the rise of a handful of modern occultists who have, if not

overtly altering preexisting systems to suit their needs, have certainly expanded upon then as well as giving their own unique takes. These persons are the likes of Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, Hakim Bey, Joel Biroco, and more recently, Ken Wilber and Thomas Campbell, who have each, by their own rights, offered unto us a series of new and interesting ideas and applications for our own occult devices. It is among these names which the new occult evolution will base itself. For some, it had already begun. Indeed, while most are content to stick to their ceremonial magick, Jewish mysticism, IOT doctrine and other now antiquated formula, others have been tiding away in shadow, intently busy with the deconstruction of all prior occult history as well as the utilization of newly discovered formula arriving via the fields of particle physics, consciousness research and other fields, in an attempt to birth what will inevitably become the foremost development for a new occult age, complete with its cutting-edge theories, treatises and modern explanations for all those phenomenon which were once secluded to the muddied banks of superstition. Even more recently, beginning at around 2004 or earlier, have been the multitude of occult groups and foundations which had utilized the newly discovered and applied informational dimension of the internet as the primary means by which they might evolve and attract those who feel the call for various forms of occult application. Many of these groups and foundations continue to appear and disappear by the day, though some had maintained a distinctive, though shadowy presence amongst the community at large. One of the most lasting and profound of such orders was the Domus Kaotica and Marauder Underground, which is more often referred to as the DKMU a

collective of post-chaos magicians who had founded themselves on the remaining useful fragments of the Chaos Magic Paradigm, alongside an appreciation and application of various Shamanic forms of magickal attainment. For the DKMU, Chaos did not equate to an invisible force which was responsible for all and any instance of result, rather, they had utilized the older, Greek conception of Khaos or Kaos as the formless void state which had preceded the Universe. In this sense, and distinct from Chaos Magic, there was no unseen cosmic force which had served as the lubricating element of their work, but was rather a product of personal application, willpower and magickal prowess. Although other differences exist between the DKMU and Chaos Magic Theory, we shall not be covering them all here. Curiously enough, the DKMU, at its peak, had attracted much attention and whether their members were directly aware of it or not. For one, we may at least say that one such attracted figure was Joel Biroco, creator of the original 156 current in London, which was meant to supersede the defunct 93 current of Thelema and transform the Chaos Current of the IOT. Joel also serves, in this case, as a connection to such likewise occultists as Alan Moore and Hakim Bey, as he had either collaborated with, or shared their writings within his rightly appreciated KAOS magazine, emergent in London during the 1980s. It is no wonder, then, that the post-chaos practices of the DKMU had attracted such a mysterious figure. As for any further interest, and although it is only hearsay, there had been word going around that either Peter Carroll or another prominent member of the IOT had, if not merely taking interest, had briefly become a DKMU member in and of themselves before disappearing entirely. We can neither confirm nor deny this, though in our opinion, it was not Carroll himself.

Joel Biroco gives a rare interview in the A.A.Os Liber Sigillum, which is not directly connected to the DKMU or similar groups. Although the DKMU is at this time inactive, their writings, techniques and applications continue to exist to this day, some of which remain in perpetual use. These includes a set of eight modern spirits, or egregores, for the purpose of a more distilled and direct application of the archetypes which make up many classical Gods, Goddesses and formerly antiquated spirits and conceptual appreciations. Aside the DKMU, groups and projects such as the Infinity Network had been in operation for a time, which had equally attracted a sort of attention and appreciation by some current prominent occultists. Despite these examples, we have yet to witness a true-to-form occult upheaval which the current community might enact, and given the resources at their direct disposal. We do, however, feel that it might be no further placed than just around the next proceeding corner, if indeed we are of such a fevered lot as those who have come before us. Within the next age of occult evolution, we expect to see no resemblance to Chaos Magic, Discordianism, Kabbalah, Goetia, Abrahamic Schemes of any kind, and, indeed, any such crystallized or hardened form within the modern dialogue. If it is to manifest, then it shall surely be a treatise which seeks to deconstruct and distill the many aspects and personal impulses which had allowed all prior systems to function in the first place, and with this, an appreciation for the mystery in its entirely, with all such semi-religious placeholder terms such as God or Chaos or even Universe taking the back seat, at last, allowing the magician to take his rightful place as the perpetual driver, navigator and final source of his own becoming.
