Basic FATE (Focus Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography)

FATE is the original focused echo protocol practiced since 1989. FATE is easily and quickly learned and can be applied in all clinical scenarios perioperatively, pre- and inhospitally, in intensive care or emergency settings. FATE can be performed with the patient supine or in the sitting position. The FATE protocol is a simple and effective roadmap to interpret echocardiographic findings and put them into the clinical context. Two FATE levels exist: Basic FATE is based on two-dimensional imaging of the easiest cardiac views including M-mode. Advanced FATE is basic FATE supplied with extended cardiac views and Doppler ultrasound for cardiac output and pressure measurement and assessment of left ventricular diastolic function. Objective The objective is to provide the attendees with basic echocardiographic skills for the noncardiologist in order to guide cardiopulmonary optimization. All theory is based on on-line elearning which must be completed prior to the hands-on course. Who can attend? Physicians from all specialities: Anaesthesiologists, intensive care and emergency physicians, internal medicine physicians, surgeons, and general practitioners. Echo-

technicians, ICU Nurses. No Prior Echocardiography Experience needed
