About the Lecture:
An ineffective risk management process serves no purpose and can significantly impact the financial health of any organization. As a non-revenue generating department, you are often asked to quantify your value and substantiate your budget requirements. This lecture will address the requirements and key elements of an effective risk culture program, including leadership support, strategic planning/ direction and proactive risk mitigation strategies to build sustainable competitive advantage. You will gain ideas, concepts and tools that will help you to demonstrate how your Risk Management program can be enhanced to incorporate the elements of an embedded Risk Management Culture. Often valuable resources are used to investigate, respond to and pay for adverse events that could have been prevented by effective risk management. Risk practitioners generally failed to address these underlying human aspects. Since the publication of the Basle accord, ISO 31000 and other standards and regulations, it has often been argued that compliance with these standards and regulations will mitigate and control risk, but this is only true if the standards & regulations are embraced in an effective Enterprise Risk Management Culture. Just like the policies, procedures and systems, these are worthless if human attitude, acceptance and desired response lack. An effective Risk Management framework must consider the behavior, beliefs and values required to support the defined ERM processes.
