Introduction As Sun International Zambia Limited, we are committed to the responsibility of protecting and enhancing the environment which

is integral to the way we do business. Our Environmental Management Policy clearly states our commitment to continual improvement. As we conduct our business of offering hotel, leisure and entertainment, we continually develop, implement and maintain an Environmental Management System that is consistent with internationally recognized standards. The policy is communicated to guests through Notice Boards, Tent Cards and during Nature Walk. Staff are also made aware of this through our internal newsletters i.e. Nkani Yapa Sun and Newsflash. Aspect and Impact Management All environmental impacts of the business have been identified and tabulated. Measures have been put in place to mitigate all negative impacts. Fauna and Flora 100% Indigenous trees have been maintained around the Falls Resort. A Tree Growing Project within the resort and the surrounding area has been implemented to reforest the areas with less vegetation. Control of alien species is an ongoing programme. About 500 metres squared of land has been cleared of. A partnership with the local National Heritage Conservation Society, UNEP, GEF and ECZ has been entered to help eradicate lantana camara at the Victoria Falls. Nature walks for guests, visitors and staffs are conducted within the Resort to help them appreciate the conservation of nature. To balance the Eco system, the resort introduced wild animals within the resort and this has greatly been appreciated by guest and helps them to appreciate nature. Within the resort we have 9 Zebras (equis burchel) 3 giraffe (Giraffa camelopadalis), plenty of impalas (epyceros melumpus). In additional to this we also have the official residents of the resort and these are the Vervet monkeys, baboons, crocodiles, monitor lizards and plenty of birds and all these have been conserved and they are monitored (See the policy) Energy Management Despite the fact that we are using a renewable energy source, sun international Zambia has taken all steps to minimise and monitor energy consumption. Guests are involved in the conservation of resources. Energy Saving Plaques have been put in all the rooms asking guests to participate in the conservation process. Staff has also participated in the conservation of energy through switching off the lights in rooms which are not occupied. Targets to reduce consumption are regularly set through the current energy saving measures, a 7% and 9% energy and gas reduction respectively has been achieved. Targets for reducing energy consumption by another 8% more in this financial year has have been put in place. To ensure that the targets are met; a monitoring programme is in place. Daily meter reading of electricity and gas are taken and consumption is compared to set bench marks. Over consumption is investigated by the maintenance team and corrective measures put in place. Room audits are done every day to ensure that staff abides by the set procedure in the energy management policy. Low wattage bulbs have been put across the resort with a total of 95% of the light builds used being energy savers. A new energy system will be put in place at the royal Livingstone at the cost of R 2.6 million so as to enhance energy conservation at the falls resort. [See the policy and attachment]

Water Management Despite the fact that we are just situated besides the Zambezi River which flow 365 day a year, Sun International Zambia recognise the importance of conserving this precious natural resources. A number of measures have been put in place to monitor and conserve water. All the water used for irrigation is drawn from the river and is monitored by water meters checked daily and targets are set to reduce consumption. Water monitoring programmes are in place, with meter readings being done on a daily basis to monitor the consumption of water against occupancy. If the water consumption goes beyond the benchmark the cause is investigated and worked on. Watering is restricted to evening time when there is less evaporation [See Water Policy] Waste Management Through the waste management policy, a Worm Farm Project has been implemented so as to manage organic waste from the kitchens and gardens. A total of 135kgs of waste is consumed by the worms every day. This has drastically reduced the amount of waste going to the landfill site. Artificial fertilizer used by Top turf has been replaced by Worm Tea and Compost Manure from the Worm Farm. To further reduce the plastic waste, in 2009 a Water Bottle Programme was been introduced were guests are encouraged to buy a water bottle at check-in to be used throughout their stay at The Resort. They can fill up at any point within the resort at no cost. Separation of waste within the resort is another management programme in place. Despite having no recycling facilities in the area, Sun International Zambia has made arrangement with Enviro Serv to take care of all recyclable materials. All recyclable materials collected from The Resort are kept at the Enviro Serv Warehouse until a quantity of Thirty Five Thousand kilograms (35, 000kgs) is reached which is then ready for transportation to South Africa for recycling. Structures and Responsibility The Falls Resort has three (3) active Green Teams compromising a minimum of ten (10) members in each team. Each member has been formerly appointed and they clearly understand their duties. [See the Structure and Responsibility policy] Procurement Sun International Zambia is commitment to reducing pollution through responsible buying. Ninety percent (90%) of the products are bought from the locals. Farmers have been trained in a sustainable way of producing vegetables. The buying of goods from the local farmers has greatly reduced the carbon foot print for the hotel. The onsite Herb and Rose Garden and the Hydroponics for growing vegetables enables the resort to source vegetables, rose flowers and herbs locally. Instead of using artificial fertilizer, organic fertilizer produced from the worm farm is used by Top Turf. About eighty percent (80%) of local suppliers have been certified as ideal suppliers to the Resort. [See the Procurement policy] Transport Management A proper Transport Management Policy is in place to ensure that all the contractors abide to it. Regular meetings are held with transport operators to remind them of their obligation to conserve the environment and that their operations must not have a negative impact on the environment. All staff members and resort security officers are involved in ensuring that all vehicles follow the laid down procedure e.g.. No idling and washing of motor vehicles within the Resort.

Communication To ensure that our environmental management system is adequately communicated, our two newsletters carry an environmental article educating the staff on how they can also contribute to the management and implementation of the EMS. The news flash is published every week while the Nkani is published fortunately. Through nature walks guest are also informed about our environmental status and responsibility

There are six (6) modules to be covered that include, Environmental Awareness, Water Conservation, Waste and Energy Management and Go Green.
