RESEARCH NOTES General expectations: 1. Print-outs with highlighted passages will NOT be accepted for credit. 2.

Your notes must NOT be a copy-and-paste of entire passages from your source. a. It should be carefully chosen ideas, phrases or direct quotations that you think would be helpful. b. It could also be your own analysis or ideas from what youve read in your research. c. If you choose to use electronic or paper notecards, there should not be more than three ideas on one card. 3. Your notes must show the source and the notes. 4. Notes will be turned in on time to receive full credit. Deductions will be taken according to the homework credit guidelines. 5. Notes received after one week will not receive credit. Three options: 1. NoodleBib electronic notecards 2. paper index cards 3. typed/notebook paper outline format OPTION ONE: NOODLEBIB ELECTRONIC NOTECARDS 1. Log in to your NoodleBib account and create a new project. 2. Click on Works Cited on the left and choose MLA Starter. Give this project a name. 3. Enter your source into the bibliography. a. This will automatically generate the source in the notecards when you print it out. By doing this, you will fulfill expectations #3 above. b. This will not only make your life easier down the road, but it will make your notecard much more organized. 4. Go to the top toolbar and click Notecards.

5. Click on New Notecards from the Notecard Tabletop.

6. Choose the source of your information from the dropdown menu. Add the URL if appropriate.

7. Create a main idea for this notecard. It should not be Romney but something more specific like Romney on education: 2nd debate

8. Input the necessary information in the notes boxes. Remember to follow expectations #2. 9. Save. OPTION TWO: PAPER INDEX CARDS 1. For each source you find, you will create a source card that lists basic bibliographic information such as (but not limited to): a. website name (example: Mitt Romney for President) b. webpage title (example: Education) c. Sponsor or publisher (if you have problems finding this, see a librarian. Its usually at the bottom of the page.) d. Copyright date/year (if you have problems finding this, see a librarian. Its usually at the bottom of the page.) e. author (sometimes for webpages, there arent any) f. date you accessed the site (because webpages contents change) 2. The information on the source card will help you enter it into NoodleBib. 3. Give each source a number so sources correlate with the notes. 4. Create as many note cards as you need for each source. a. Like the NoodleBib notecards, you need to give each note card a distinct theme or main idea. b. Each note card should contain NO MORE than three ideas FRONT OF NOTE CARD

OPTION THREE: TYPED/NOTEBOOK PAPER OULTINE FORMAT 1. If youre writing your notes out, please write legibly. 2. Your notes should contain basic bibliographic information that will help you enter the information into NoodleBib such as (but not limited to): a. website name (example: Mitt Romney for President) b. webpage title (example: Education) c. Sponsor or publisher (if you have problems finding this, see a librarian. Its usually at the bottom of the page.) d. Copyright date/year (if you have problems finding this, see a librarian. Its usually at the bottom of the page.) e. author (sometimes for webpages, there arent any) f. date you accessed the site (because webpages contents change) 3. Your notes should be divided into themes or main ideas with notes for each theme or main idea. 4. Remember that copy-and-pasting entire passages from your source will not be accepted for credit.
