STEP 5 Register for preparatory courses and workshops

REGISTRATION You may register for preparatory courses and workshops via HEC en ligne (intranet) starting mid-June. For information on how to register on-line, please refer to the guide How to register via HEC en ligne. The Office of the Registrar will automatically enrol all students in the Phase I and II compulsory courses.

Registration will be closed from June 18 to July 9. If you missed the registration period, you will be able to add, drop, swap courses as of July 9 at 2 pm. PREPARATORY COURSES Many courses in the MBA program require an adequate training in mathematics. We strongly recommend you read the course descriptions, do the Self-evaluation tests and enrol in as many courses as you need in order to excel in your core courses. Over the years, we have noticed that many students mistakenly believe they have adequate training in these subjects and do not take preparatory courses to upgrade their skills. Unfortunately a number of students do have difficulties in certain courses (especially in finance and economics) and, in some cases, students avoid taking certain elective courses because they are not adequately prepared for them. The preparatory courses are taken on a voluntary basis and the accompanying credits do not contribute the students grade point average for the program. Tuition fees The preparatory courses are one-credit courses. Please refer to the table of tuition fees to know what the fees are for one-credit courses.

STEP 8 Begin the program with the intensive week

This week is preceded by a preparatory session scheduled on Tuesday August 18 from 5:30 to 7:00.

The intensive week will be from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28 from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm during which you will follow the first course of the program 51-451-02 Management Simulation. Why does class extend up to 10:30 pm?

The three-hour class is followed by team discussions that often extend into the evening because important decisions must be made and consensus among the team members must be reached before you leave class. Consequently, it is impossible to predict when you will end the day. The class schedule Please note that the first class might begin at 10:30 instead of 8:30. The schedule for each day will be available on HEC en ligne as of mid-June. Teaching materials used During this intensive week, you will be using the Globstrat manual. The manual will be sent to you by e-mail one week before the beginning of classes. Students pay a $50 simulation fee for the manual. Attendance is compulsory for the intensive week This course is compulsory. If you are unable to attend class, you will not be authorized to continue in the program. You will be asked to postpone admission until the following year. Top Information regarding the payment will be sent by e-mail

STEP 10 Respect the language requirements of the program

The Second Language Policy HEC Montral has introduced a second language policy for the MBA program, designed to give graduates the distinctive asset of fluency in more than one language. Under this policy, students must have knowledge of a second language to be able to graduate (English, French or another language). Most newly admitted MBA students do meet the language requirements of the program. Students whose mother tongue is not English, and who have not completed their education in English, have taken an appropriate English language test (HECTOPE, TOEFL or IELTS) as required for admission to the program. Thus, these students meet the language requirements by declaring their mother tongue in their admission application and by successfully passing one of the above English language tests. As for students whose mother tongue is English, please refer to the Website to see how this requirement can be met. For additional information, please contact Ivana Bonaduce at 514 340-6931 or at ivana.bonaduce@hec.ca. Top

STEP 11 Attend classes and examinations

Classes Students are expected to attend classes: The professor may deny students access to the course if they do not attend the first class. The director of the MBA program may deny students access to the course if they miss two or more classes. Examinations Students must attend examinations. Students who do not attend an examination must have a valid reason and must, within five days following the date of the examination, justify their absence. Valid reasons refer to a reason independent of the students will, such as an act of God or an illness substantiated by a medical certificate. Please refer to the University calendar to see the examination dates. Top
