Hearing Officer Training
DAY ONE: December 2, 2008 1:00-4:00pm
The first day will focus on background information and history on Gomez. Diane Brown and Mary Shepard, will present an overview of the implications of Gomez including regulations and implementations. Target Audience: CWS Program managers, supervisors, hearing officers Diane Brown, Manager, CDSS, Child Welfare Program and Policy Development Bureau Mary Shepard, Social Services Consultant, CDSS, Child Welfare Program and Policy Development Bureau

DAY TWO: December 3, 2008 9:00am-4:00pm


The second day will provide Fair Hearing Officers with information needed to both evaluate cases and conduct the Fair Hearing process. Judge Banuelos will provide in-depth information on the evaluation of evidence in these hearing specifically: 1. Standard "Rules of Evidence" 2. How to weigh in-person testimony against a variety of written documentation (such as medical records, CPS case worker notes and hand written notes from family members) 3. How to use evidence to evaluate cases and provide rulings Target Audience: Officers for Gomez and others involved in the process. Please contact your County Training Manager by November 21st to request registration. Attendance at these trainings are restricted to CWS Program Managers and supervisors who are involved in the Gomez process as well as those individuals the County has identified as hearing officers. Day Two is intended for hearing officers only.
