WHY CHOOSE HARLOW COLLEGE?

Our students results are continually monitored by the Government on many levels. As of July 2012, figures published showed us to be the No1 FE college in England for all

measures of student success. High grades are included in this overall measure. We also outperform all schools and colleges within the local area.
Effectively, our students are far more likely to stay on their course and succeed - and get far better grades. This is a fantastic achievement and testament to our teaching and learning strategy which puts students firmly at the heart of everything we do.

OUR APPROACH TO LEARNING

Our students are at the heart of everything we do.
We aim to make college life and learning an enjoyable and engaging experience. Staff work hard to motivate and inspire students and the approach is simple. When you come to us you sign a 'commitment to study'. We make sure you turn up on time, we monitor your attendance, we support you and we work you hard. Youll get daily targets - for you (not the whole class) - and when you complete these you can go home! Your progress is monitored daily - this ensures you stay on track to achieve. We put clear action plans in place, involving your parents/carers wherever possible. This will help if you start to fall behind. Equally well accelerate your progress if youre doing really well. Everyone is an individual to us, and we want to help you develop and achieve your personal aspirations so we encourage you to play an active part in your learning. We aim to set you up for your future, and get you where you want to be. Our reward is your progression and your success. Of course, success means different things to different people. We work hard to understand what it means for you, and how we can best help you achieve your success.

We're proud of our students. They work hard, they achieve and they have fun.
NOT EVERYTHINGS A LESSON!

The College is committed to making sure you get the most out of your time with us, so it's important you get the chance to take part in non courserelated activities. This way you meet more fellow students, you can learn new skills and, more importantly, you can add value to your CV. Of course we have lots of sportsrelated events, but there are also a range of creative activities which can bring out your artistic talents. Through our Student Council meetings we listen to what students want, and our programme of activities continues to grow.

A LEVELS
We offer a range of inspiring and challenging A Levels in our specialist sixth form centre.
A Levels provide an academic route at 16+ and enable students to achieve both breadth and depth in their studies. Most students study 4 AS subjects in their first year and 3 A2 subjects in their second year. Each A Level is made up of 4 or 6 units of study (across two years) and are predominately assessed through examinations. A Level students can expect to be in College every day and need to spend about 3 hours on study per day, outside of lessons, to complete their targets. Students must also be prepared to spend at least 4 hours of individual study per subject per week. In addition to our entry requirements of 7 A* - C grades at GCSE and an average points score of 45, some A Level subjects require you to have a specific grade at GCSE and these are listed in each course entry. Entry to year 2 of A Levels (A2) requires at least a C grade at AS. At the completion of the full A Level, students can progress to university, to an Apprenticeship or to employment.

Apprenticeships

How does an Apprenticeship work?

Your employer will provide on-the-job training, and you will usually attend Harlow College to complete your off-the-job training, either one day a week or on block release, depending on what Apprenticeship route you are following. All apprentices have an individual learning plan and this will be regularly reviewed and assessed by a qualified assessor. There is no set time for completing an Apprenticeship, as each one is different and does not last for a fixed length of time. Your Apprenticeship will end when you are competent in all necessary components but typically each level can take 1-2 years.
