Reason s

These are most of the Reasons that you should know by now. 1) Given 2) Addition Property 3) Subtraction Property 4) Multiplication Property 5) Division Property 6) Distributive Property 7) Simplify 8) Reflexive Property (ex. 1 1 or AB AB ) 9) Transitive Property (if 1 2 and 2 3 , then 1 3 ) 10) Substitution Property (hint: seldom used) 11) If two angles add up to 900, then they are Complementary Angles 12) If two angles add up to 1800, then they are Supplementary Angles 13) If 2 Right Angles, then the two angles are congruent 14) If two angles are adjacent and supplementary, then they form a Straight Angles/Linear Pair 15) If Vertical Angles, then two congruent angles 16) If Midpoint, then two congruent segments 17) If Segment Bisector, then two congruent segments 18) If Angle Bisector, then two congruent angles 19) If 2 angles are congruent and supplementary, then they are both Right Angles 20) Congruent Supplement Theorem (see back) 21) Congruent Complement Theorem (see back) 22) Common Segment Theorem (addition property using segments add same segment to congruent segments results in two new congruent segments) These are some of the Reasons that you will know by the end of the Chapter 3. 23) If Parallel Lines, then Alternate Interior Angles are Congruent 24) If Parallel Lines, then Alternate Exterior Angles are Congruent 25) If Parallel Lines, then Corresponding Angles are Congruent 26) If Parallel Lines, then Interior Angles on Same Side of Transversal are Supplementary 27) If Parallel Lines, then Exterior Angles on Same Side of Transversal are Supplementary 28) If Perpendicular lines, then right angles 29) If Altitude, then right angles 30) If Triangle, then Sum of Angles of Triangle is 1800 31) If Isosceles Triangle, then two congruent sides

Congruent Supplement Theorem If 2 angles are supplementary to the same angle, then the 2 original angles are congruent.

1 For example: If

<1 and <3 are supplementary and <2 and <3 are supplementary

Then

<1 = <2

Angles 1 and 2 are supplementary to the same angle so Angles 1 and 2 are congruent

If 2 angles are supplementary to the congruent angles, then the 2 original angles are congruent.

3 For example: If

4 <1 and <3 are supplementary and <2 and <4 are supplementary and <3 = <4 Then <1 = <2

Angles 1 and 2 are supplementary to the same angle so Angles 1 and 2 are congruent

Congruent Complement Theorem Same as above except the two angles add up to 90 (not 180)
