Dallas Public Library Corporate Partnerships Needs List

The Dallas Public Library (DPL) has opportunities for corporate partners to: Develop relationships with targeted communities Be seen as a partner in communities to help solve issues facing the residents Get their message(s) directly to target audiences in a positive environment The list of needs below is a starting point for exploring opportunities that would benefit both corporate partners and DPL. There is a great deal of flexibility in terms of levels of participation/partnership included on the list, as well as within individual needs. For example, a program could be targeted to one particular area of the city or be citywide. Description 1 Literacy Centers at branch libraries focusing on English as a Second Language (ESL) Quantity 1 to 27 Notes Pilot underway with Atmos Energy Literacy Center @ Dallas West Branch Library In Partnership with Texas A&M University Commerce Funding and/or volunteers needed to expand to additional locations Create the space with cubicles, computers and resource materials to start a small business Will partner with the Office of Economic Development, the Bill Priest Institute and local chambers of commerce to offer a series of seminars and one-on-one consultation with business specialists Volunteers needed Staff, technology, and programming for 9 locations

2 Small Business Innovation Incubator to be located on the 5th floor of the Central Library, next to the Job Seekers Resource Center

3 Teen Centers Continue to operate in up to nine selected branch libraries. Teen Centers provide exposure to positive role models in the community and offer special programs on career planning, college admission, and homework help via the Internet. Teen Center activities include interview training, job fairs, computer training, help with college and scholarship applications, creative writing, public speaking, Web design and arts and crafts.

Description 4 New Programs Technology classes on computer skills, Microsoft Word and Excel, etc.; Seminars on funding college education, managing credit, preparing for home ownership, household budgeting, etc. 5 Existing Programs - Enhance budgeted programs, including bringing in authors for events, summer reading programs, Tulisoma, etc. 6 Mobile Techno Library - Like Bookmobile (smaller size) but with focus on technology; state-of-the-art mobile computer lab, complete with broadband internet access that will allow customers to connect to the internet from virtually any location in Dallas. 7 Flexible location kiosks for Reference at branches (instead of large, fixed Reference desks) 8 Early Learning Stations without internet access in children's areas at branches. Over 30 educational applications/games available. Currently at Central Librarys Children's Center and Bookmarks at NorthPark Center. 9 Renovation of two remaining original floors at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library

Description 13 Motorola MR350R two-way walkie talkies for Central Library and larger branch library staff to communicate from the public service floor to the staff area without leaving the public side. 14 EnvisionWare kiosk Similar to Redbox for books 15 TelePresence technology in the Hamon Room on the 5th floor of the Central Library (Business & Technology) to enable two-way telepresence communication for business meetings and training sessions for the public and staff.
