A delegation representing the Fijian Government today attended the hearing of a petition before the Generalized System of Preferences Sub-committee (GSPSC) at the United States Trade Representative Office in Washington DC. The petition seeks to remove Fiji from the list of eligible beneficiaries of the Generalized System of Preferences. The delegation was led by the
Acting Solicitor-General Sharvada Sharma, and included His Excellency Ambassador Winston Thompson, Principal Legal Officer from the Solicitor-Generals Office, Salaseini Serulagilagi, and First Secretary, Ray Baleikasavu. Addressing the GSPSC, the Acting Solicitor-General updated the members of GSPSC about the constitutional
processes that have been implemented by the Fijian Government. This includes an inclusive nation-wide dialogue process by an independent Constitutional Commission that will result in the promulgation of a new Constitution in early 2013; and lead to Fijis first non-race-based democratic elections by September 2014. Fijian Government Attends GSP 'Friends Of Fiji Health' Work For Case In USA Charity
highlighted that the Decree is not unique as its key provisions are comparable to that of the U.S. National Labor Relations Act and laws in the United Kingdom and Ireland. GSPSC was also informed about the successful implementation of the Decree in essential industries where workers have freely organized, formed bargaining units, and elected representatives. Furthermore, they have successfully reached collective agreements with employers and have devised their own dispute resolution processes. The Fijian Governments concerns with respect to the impact of the loss of GSP to Fiji and the Fijian workers were also emphasized at the hearing. Currently, 39 Fijian companies export Fijis products into the US market under the GSP system. In 2011 alone, this generated $57 million in export revenues. If GSP were lost, worker layoffs of about 15,000 workers would be the only option for affected companies and would adversely affect 75,000 Fijians (over eight percent of our population). Government affirmed its commitment to a future of equality and opportunity for all Fijians. This includes ensuring that the rights of its working people are protected and extended. The Fijian Government made this promise not only to the United Nations but also as the newly chosen Chair of the G-77 for 2013. In addition, GSPSC was informed that, in order to address the lack of bilateral relations between the Fijian Government and the US Government, a bilateral informal dialogue process could be established with appropriate U.S. trade and labour officials to assist all parties in obtaining true facts about the rights of workers in Fiji. The Hearing concluded with answers being provided to questions raised by the GSPSC to correct inaccurate information and to give further factual information. Following detailed discussions, GSPSC has now invited both the Government and the petitioner to present post-hearing written submissions within 3 weeks. A GENERAL surgical team from New Zealand is in Lautoka to perform 30 major operations and provide training in the latest techniques. The visit by Friends of Fiji Health is one of many undertaken by doctors and medical personnel under the FOFH program, set up 18 months ago as a charitable trust. Seven Fijian doctors and businessmen who have immigrated to New Zealand founded the charity as a means of giving something back to their homeland. On Monday, the team carried out the first local laparascopic operation to remove gallstones (cholecystectomy), watched by a number of local surgeons and medical students. Team leader Dr Rishi Ram, who has worked at Lautoka Hospital early in his career along with Dr Avinesh Kumar, said FOFH's main aim was to send teams of specialists to Fiji to provide medical treatment for the neediest of local people.
non-negotiable principles which will be incorporated in the Constitution are: a common and equal citizenry; a secular State; removal of systemic corruption; an independent judiciary; elimination of discrimination; good and transparent governance; social justice; one person, one vote, one value; elimination of ethnic voting; proportional representation; and a voting age of 18 years. The GSPSC was also informed that with the lifting of the Public Emergency Regulations (PER) in January 2012, Fiji is now operating under the amended Public Order Act. This amendment provides internationally accepted, modern laws to combat terrorism, racial and religious vilification, and other serious public order offences. With the implementation of the constitutional consultation process, all persons and organizations, including trade unions are now able to hold public meetings without the need for a permit or other form of advance notice. In addition, all forms of media censorship have been wholly removed. GSPSC was also updated on numerous other recent worker-related reforms in Fiji, including the implementation of substantial income tax reduction for workers, a National Employment Centre, a soon-to-be-established National Minimum Wage for Fijian workers, and a no-fault compensation scheme for injury at work. In terms of the Essential National Industries (Employment) Decree 2011 (Decree), GSPSC was informed that the intention of the Decree is to ensure the viability of specific industries that are vital to the Fijian economy and GDP. The Decree is designed to protect jobs, while safeguarding the fundamental rights of workers. It does not destroy the trade union movement in Fiji, as has been alleged. It was also stressed to the GSPSC that under this Decree, workers continue to have fundamental rights, including the right to organize; form unions; independently vote for representatives; bargain collectively; and develop processes to resolve employment disputes and grievances. It was also
"We well understand some of the challenges that local staff face. "It's great to be able to give something back, which also gives us great satisfaction in being able to do so," Dr Ram said. Before they depart next Monday the specialists hope to train young surgeons. "We have experience in the latest laparascopic (keyhole) surgery that we can pass on to our Fijian colleagues. We are committed to helping them upskill, to achieve the highest possible standards of clinical excellence and patient safety," Dr Ram said. The eight-person team includes two general surgeons team leader, Dr Ram and Dr Kumar anesthetist Dr Reta McLeod, and specialist theatre nurses Jo Dunstan and Tara Mudgway. The surgeons' wives Dr Amrita Kumar and Dr Ranjani Ram, both general practitioners are working with local doctors in general practice, and also have a training role.
A 22-year-old trainee teacher who allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl over a period of three years from 2004 was arrested in Lautoka on Monday and is now facing three counts of rape charges.
It is alleged that the man raped the girl between January 2004 and 2007 in Taveuni and was arrested following a late report. The Lautoka Magistrates Court has remanded the man in custody.

The Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation permanent secretary Mr Govind Sami during his welcome address at Senior Citizens Day, reiterated the need for communities to recognise the contributions of the senior citizens. Internationally, this day is celebrated throughout the world and in Fiji, the Ministry has organised celebrations throughout all the 4 divisions this week to recognise senior citizens throughout Fiji. This is a celebration to reward your contribution. Its also an indication that people are living longer and we need to inculcate an inclusive and supportive environment for the elderly. Liberal leadership hopeful makes Calgary his 1st campaign stop
On Wednesday afternoon's campaign stop in northeast Calgary, Trudeau promised to never use Alberta's oil wealth as a federal wedge issue. It was Trudeaus father who brought in the National Energy Program, which was widely hated by Albertans and is often blamed for why the party does so poorly in the province. The initiative sought to give more control over the energy industry to the federal government. I promise you I will never use the wealth of the west as a wedge to gain votes in the east, said Trudeau, drawing the biggest applause of the speech. It is wrong to use our natural wealth to divide Canadians against one another; it was the wrong way to govern Canada in the past. It is the wrong way today and it will be the wrong way in the future. It's not the politics of division that help make Canada strong. Hundreds of Liberal supporters A few hundred supporters packed a seniors' centre in northeast Calgary to listen to the MP who represents the Montreal riding of Papineau. The Liberal Party of Canada hasn't won a federal seat in the city since Pat Mahoney took the Calgary South riding as Trudeau's father led the Liberals to a
majority victory in the 1968 election. While his speech in Calgary was similar to his remarks Tuesday, Trudeau said the Liberals could learn a thing or two about "small-l" liberal values from Albertans who value personal freedom. John Anderson drove from the central Alberta town of Blackfalds to be at the speech. He said Trudeau will give the third place Liberals a boost, both here and across the country. I think he's the energy that we need, the voice that we're Canada together, said Anderson. Dominic LeBlanc will not run Hannah Thibedeau reports that Trudeau's entry into the Liberal leadership race means New Brunswick MP Dominic LeBlanc will not run. The two have been close since they were children; their fathers were friends, their mothers remain so, and LeBlanc even babysat Trudeau and his brothers when they were young. LeBlanc is expected to announce he is supporting Trudeau when the latter visits Dieppe, N.B., on Friday. The media has learned LeBlanc will play a national role in Trudeau's campaign. The federal Liberals will pick their new leader at an April convention in Ottawa.

celebration transcends beyond commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's birth and his life as followers renounce violence and entirely devote themselves to Gandhi's philosophy and principles of Ahimsa i.e living a life by following non-violence. The celebration of Gandhi Jayanti conventionally kicked off by singing praers, offering flowers, lighting candles and garlanding Gandhiji's photo or statue. Mahatma Gandhi's
life and principles has inspired lives of all ages. And if you are enthusiastic to explore more about him and Gandhi Jayanti, then Gandhi Jayanti 2012 is the right time to become familiar with his perpetual and valuable philosophy, and also his role as an architect of Indian Independence. The World Melody Day will also be celebrated every year, beginning this year, in India and Australia, Japan, USA, Singapore, Malaysia and Europe.

Statement By PM Bainimarama
75,000 FIJIANS TO BE EFFECTED BY GSP ACTION Over the weekend, a delegation from the Government left for Washington, DC, to participate in the U.S. governments public hearing, concerning whether Fiji provides internationally recognised worker rights to its citizens. I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that the Fijian Governments commitment to a future of equality and opportunity for all Fijians includes ensuring that the rights of its working people are protected and extended. My government considers it paramount to safeguard Fijian peoples livelihoods and jobs. In this regard, addressing issues raised about Fijis provision of internationally recognised worker rights is of the highest priority. We are very concerned about the potential impact of losing duty-free entry for so many of Fijis products into the U.S. market if Fiji is no longer an eligible country under the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences. We have estimated that 15,000 jobs could be lost among the 39 companies that export products using this preference, and there could also be indirect job losses. Fiji is a family-based society. The loss of these jobs would affect 75,000 people - which is more than eight percent of our population because of the multi-generations of family that live together and depend on the familys breadwinner. As part of Fijis progress toward establishing a parliamentary democracy, we are reviewing our current labour laws to ensure their compliance with the 34 International Labour Organization Conventions that Fiji has ratified. The Employment Relations Advisory Board comprised of representatives from Government, trade unions, and employers is undertaking this review process. We are committed to protecting all Fijian workers and we will soon adopt Fijis first national minimum wage to ensure that they receive fair earnings as well. We are equally committed to providing help through Fijis National Employment Centre to create meaningful employment opportunities for our young adults and others who seek work. Furthermore, the Constitutional Commission has received submissions from all sectors of Fijian society, including trade unions, employer groups, and public employees. It is very important that employees and employers make their views known to the Commission. We expect that the new Constitution will help us continue to build an environment that promotes safe working conditions, allows workers to form unions, and protects them from arbitrary actions. We seek to ensure that unions can take collective action as directed by their member workers and are subject only to restrictions that are generally accepted to protect the public good. We also seek to protect the rights of those workers who choose not to affiliate with unions. We look forward to bringing the U.S. government up to date about Fijis government-wide reforms, which include our labour laws. These reforms have been undertaken to prepare for adoption of a new Constitution next year and for holding democratic elections in 2014. We also look forward to establishing an informal labour dialogue with appropriate U.S. officials to exchange ideas and views.
Fijis Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola met with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov. The meeting took place in the context of the Russia-PSIDS (Pacific Small Island Developing States) Ministerial Meeting held at the United Nations. The meeting was a follow-up to the Russia-PSIDS Ministerial Meeting held in Nadi in January, 2012. Ministers Lavrov and Kubuabola expressed satisfaction at the progress of the various bilateral issues tabled between Fiji and Russia at the Nadi meeting. Heads of Government, Foreign Ministers and Ambassadors of the PSIDS were present to discuss development issues with Minister Lavrov and the Russian Permanent
Representative to the UN, Ambassador Vitaly Churkin. The PSIDS present included Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The Ministers acknowledged the desire of the Russian Federation and the Pacific Small Island Developing States to promote and strengthen their bonds of friendship and cooperation. Discussions covered sustainable development, climate change, security, scholarships, communications and bilateral visa arrangements. The Ministerial Meeting agreed to meet annually in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly during the September General Debate.
Two out of the five escapees that fled from the Naboro Medium facility two weeks ago appeared before Magistrate Janaka Bandara charged with resisting arrest and criminal intimidation. Tevita Sugu and Josaia Usumaki appeared before Magistrate Bandara along with Rajeshwar Kishore Dutt, who is charged with aggravated robbery. The latter charge relates to the daylight robbery of the Bank South Pacifics Samabula branch last month. BSP have declined to disclose the amount of money stolen. The three other escapees failed to appear as they are still medically unfit and further remanded into police custody.
State prosecutor Lisiate Fotofili informed Magistrate Bandara that Solomoni Qurai, Epeli Qaraniqio and Isoa Waqa were still unfit to attend court and needed more time to recover before appearing. Sugu, with visible injuries, was taken to court with the support of police officers and Usumaki needed crutches to help with his walking. Mr Fotofili requested if the accused could be remanded in custody and the matter transferred to the High Court because of its seriousness. According to Mr Fotofili, charges against the accused had just been filed and no disclosures had been provided to the accused persons.

the Government was reviewing the country's labour laws to ensure that they complied with 34 conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) that Fiji had ratified. The tripartite Employment Relations Advisory Board was a key participant in this process. "In this year alone, Fiji has ratified or adopted eight ILO instruments, as recommended by the tripartite board, including the Maritime Labour Convention 2006", he said. Ratu Inoke stressed the Government's overall approach to labour relations was to empower ordinary workers. "The Bainimarama Government is committed to protecting workers who are fortunate enough to have jobs and to ensuring that all workers receive fair wages. We are equally committed to creating employment opportunities for the young and less affluent", he said. A Fijian Government delegation is heading for Washington next week to defend an attempt by the Fiji Trades Union Congress to stop Fiji from benefiting from the US Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Scheme, which, since 1976, has given certain Fijian exporters duty free access to the United States. The 39 Fijian companies at risk of losing their preferential access to the US market are warning that 15-thousand Fijian workers could lose their jobs if the action succeeds.
Fijis Ministry of Education permanent secretary Brij Lal has described the street fights between students of Suva Grammar and Marist Brothers High School as a disgrace. The second incident happened Monday, despite police warning following a similar incident four days ago that landed a student in hospital. This is not good. Students should learn to live peacefully, Lal said. He commends the work by the heads of the two schools and the police in stepping in to question and possibly discipline those involved. denied saying a team from the Education Ministry has been set up to look into the matter and will try and work out a solution that is best for everyone. Fiji Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the recent incident happened at 4.30pm at Bau St where a group of MBHS students entered a school bus carrying SGS and Veiuto students home from school. One suspect with particulars not known, assaulted an 18 and 17-yearold, both students of Suva Grammar School, and also damaged the rear glass of the bus, Naisoro said. The estimated cost of damages to the bus is around $600 and both victims have been issued medical reports. Investigations continue in both cases. The two schools have been known for their rivalries. It is unclear when and how the first fight started, but in 2003 students and teachers of the two schools reconciled after a fight involving two other schools in 2002.

In a bid to strengthen Fijian pride and unity, government held a Fiji Day media launch at Government buildings to commemorate independence 42 years ago. Ministry of Information permanent secretary Sharon Smith Johns joined organisers from the Ministry of Defence at the launch and called on media outlets around the country to help promote the importance of Fiji Day. In her address, Ms Smith Johns said that, this Fiji Day we want to make it special, we want all Fijians to take pride in this great country and celebrate. Some feel that Fiji Day had lost its essence over the years due to the lack of support and importance placed on the day. Most countries around the world embrace their national holidays and Fiji should be no different, Ms Smith Johns said. She said that Government is urging all
Students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School celebrated the life of their patron, Mahatma Gandhi, with dances and a special assembly in Suva. As a nation we have made tremendous achievements over the past 42 years but we have also struggled and faced hardships along the way. This Fiji Day, we want to make it special. As part of a national campaign in the lead up to Fiji Day, the Ministry of Information has launched an advertising campaign asking Fijians to Put Up A Flag, Put Down A Lovo. The idea behind this is to get everyone together, over lunch, dinner, picnics, yaqona or simply visiting relatives and friends, Ms Smith Johns said. The official program will take place in Suva beginning with a march through the streets of Suva and then the official program follows at the Albert Park. The celebrations at other centers, Labasa, Lautoka and Levuka, will have similar programmes.

Fiji has endorsed the Samoan Governments hosting of the Small Island Developing States Global Conference in 2014. At a New York reception held at the Fiji Mission to the United Nations in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, the Prime Minister of Samoa, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Fiji, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Nauru, Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea, Chair of the Pacific Small Island Developing
States (PSIDS) and other Pacific representatives, agreed that Samoa will host the SIDS Global Conference in 2014 and Fiji will host the preparatory meetings for the conference. Minister Kubuabola said that Fiji's endorsement of Samoa as host of the SIDS Global Conference was made in the spirit of solidarity and mutual support that exists within PSIDS. He said Fiji had every confidence Samoa would host a conference that would prove to be a landmark in SIDS development. Prime Minister Tuilaepa thanked Fiji for its understanding and support. He said the agreement demonstrated the long-standing tradition of Pacific Island countries being always ready to cooperate in the Pacific Way. He also congratulated Fiji for its assumption of the Chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China in 2013, an honour the Pacific region should justifiably be proud of. The first SIDS Global Conference was held in Barbados in 1994, with the second one in Mauritius in 2005. At the UNs Sustainable Development Conference in Rio de Janeiro in June, 2012, it was agreed the third SIDS Global Conference would be held in the Pacific Region in 2014. SIDS (Small Island Developing States) is recognized as a distinct group of developing countries facing specific social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities. This recognition was first made at the UNCED conference, also known as the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992.

A JOINT project between the University of Texas, the Fiji National University and the Ministry of Health will see healthcare in emergency centers improved in order to save more lives. University of Texas Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine Dr Rohith Malya said a network of consultants and registrars from the US would be in Fiji over the next year to revolutionize emergency care. This is all being done as part of attempts to prepare physicians in emergency rooms to administer the drug Alteplase to heart attack victims. He said FNU's postgraduate diploma in emergency care was aiming to change emergency medical services so that
doctor in emergency rooms around the country became experts at first port of call care. "And in order to help move that forward we are getting American registrars into the program to rotate side by side with Fijian registrars and that will raise the level of training higher and we have Emergency Medical consultants coming from Australia also," he said. Director of the Fiji National University Emergency Medicine Residency Program Professor Craig Adams said FNU's Post Graduate Diploma in Emergency Medicine program was working to improve emergency health care in the country.
The head of government, Prime Minister Bainimarama is urging certain trade unionists to evaluate their actions ahead of the plight of ordinary Fijians across the country. Prime Minister Bainimarama said that the efforts by Trade Unionists in Fiji to pursue their campaign against the Bainimarama government in convincing the American government to punish Fiji by removing the duty free access that certain Fijian exports have enjoyed four decades, will certainly threaten the jobs of 15,000 Fijian workers in 39 companies that export their services to the United States. PM Bainimarama said that the ban would affect some of our most famous brands such as Fiji Water, PAFCO, Pure Fiji and a host of other companies
whom are considered vital to our economy. As your Prime Minister, I want to say how disappointed I am that a handful of Trade unionist as we all know have been prepared to use ordinary workers as pawns in their struggle with government to protect their own interests and position, which we all believe is not the Fijian way, PM Bainimarama said. The Head of Government appealed to all union leaders to end their damaging assault on the jobs of ordinary Fijian in the country if they are to regain the respect of the rest of the community. There is still time for them to change course and regain the respect of the rest of the community. They need to finally put Fijian workers first.

The Reserve Bank of Fiji has issued several new disclosure requirements for licensed credit institutions. The key initiatives will now be on standardization and disclosing details on fees, charges and interest rates to the public. The central bank said the standardization was aimed at ensuring greater transparency and comparability of fees, charges and interest rates across the different institutions. The level of details required is aimed at assuring customers of the likely total cost of borrowings or net returns they will receive from deposits before a decision is made, it said in a statement. Reserve Bank Governor, Barry Whiteside, said this completed the first phase of the central banks work on reforming fees and charges charged by licensed credit institutions in the country. He said the second phase, which was in progress, was the review of all current fees and charges of the credit institutions. The policy statement is the culmination of three years of work towards ensuring customers get sufficient information before deciding to take a loan or invest in a time deposit, during the term of the loan or deposit and when it is paid off, he said.
The requirements were carefully chosen to provide customers with relevant information to enable them to make sound decisions after comparing carefully the features and costs of products available. The policy is applicable to Home Finance Company Limited, Merchant Finance Company Limited and Credit Corporation (Fiji) Limited. It is a review of the July 2002 Disclosure of Fees and Charges Policy which credit institutions have implemented for over 10 years. The revised policy requirements are effective from October 1, 2012, while provisions requiring non-system changes, such as updating and printing of revised fees and charges brochures and updating letters of offer, would become effective from January 1, 2013. Credit institutions have also been given time to implement other longterm changes. Mr Whiteside has urged all customers to make good use of the information provided by banks and credit institutions to ensure they understood what they were buying and how much they would be paying for a product or a service. A similar policy guideline was issued to licensed commercial banks in September 2011.
The trial date for the former Post Fiji executives, Peni Mau and Dhirendra Pratap, has been set for May 1, 2013. Mau denies one count of extortion by a public officer and Pratap denies one count each of abuse of office and giving false information to a public servant. The two men appeared in the Suva High Court before Justice Prabaharan Kumararatnam. Justice Kumararatnam said the postponement would give time for Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) lawyers to obtain documents requested by the defence lawyer. Suva lawyer Aseri Vakaloloma appeared on behalf of lawyer Mehboob Raza for Pratap. Mr Raza is expected to appear in court today because he is currently in New Zealand.
Mau, a former managing director of Post Fiji, was charged with extortion in 2007 for allegedly accepting a promise of a reward namely a gratuity payment from his employment with Post Fiji Limited which was beyond proper pay. Pratap faces charges of abuse of office in the same year, allegedly giving a letter to the Ministry of Finance Special Internal Audit Team falsely stating that the board of directors of Post Fiji Limited had passed a resolution in March to give Peni Mau two years and four months of salary and $24,000 gratuity on his early exit from employment, which was prejudicial to the Government of Fiji. In his second count Pratap is accused of knowingly causing the said audit team to do something which the team ought not to do if the true state of affairs were known to the members of the team.
TOWER Insurance customers will now be able to call the company using their newly-acquired mobile short codes that were launched in Suva. The insurance company has become the latest to sign up for mobile short codes which allows their customers to communicate at a cheap rate via making calls using mobile phones. Suva customers can now call 5496 and 5497 while those customers in the West can contact the Nadi office on 5498 for any queries or business they may have. The short codes replace the seven digit landline number to an easy-toremember four digit code. The service would be available to Vodafone and Inkk users and would be charged at normal mobile to mobile
rates at 22 cents per unit peak period. NewNet Limited has, over the few years of their existence, set up short codes for numerous other companies; Home Finance Company Limited (HFC) for example. TOWER Insurance general manager, Paul Absell, said: We are delighted to yet again enhance our services using the latest mobile technology to ensure that our customers needs are continuously met. Today is another milestone in our journey to continuously find ways to put our customers first. Mr Absell acknowledged the team at NewNet Limited and Vodafone Fiji for their assistance with the installation and training of the companys mobile short code.
Frezco Beverages, the distributor of Aqua Pacific has been given the contract to supply US$1.5 million FJ$2.66m) worth of bottled water to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the next 12 months. This follows the company signing an exclusive distributorship agreement recently with Bin Beyat Natural Water Trading in Dubai. The first shipment is due to leave for the Middle East in mid October. Investment Fiji chief executive, Ravuni Uluilakeba, confirming this said it can be largely attributed to the recent opening of the Fiji Embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The recent opening of the Fiji Embassies in Abu Dhabi and Seoul in Korea has created a gateway for the local exporters to access overseas market, he said. For Investment Fiji, foreign Missions play an effective role in securing new markets for the local exporters. Frezco Beverages is a testimony of their initiatives. Mr Uluilakeba said the change to export-oriented economy policy strengthens the requirement for economic diplomacy where overseas missions will now play a much stronger role in promoting Fijian made products, tourism and investments. Frezco Beverages, managing director, Altaaf Jamal said they had been working on this market since last year.
After screening several companies, we decided to engage with Bin Beyat Natural Water Trading as we saw them fit to develop our brand to the next level in UAE and GCC market, he said. Mr Jamal indicated other emerging markets for them currently included Russia, China, UK and Japan. He said US market was showing positive growth with products in Indiana, California, Las Vegas and New York. Mr Jamal said a new state-of-theart bottling facility would be fullyoperational by middle of 2013 with initial line capable of producing more than 150,000 bottles per day. This would equal 45 million bottles on average per year to accommodate the growth for the brand internationally and at home, he said. Fijis first Ambassador to the UAE and the other Gulf Countries, Robin Nair, said the impact of the highprofile opening of the embassy in this economic hub of the region and its economic diplomacy was already showing early harvests for Fiji. The opening of this distributorship shows Fijis ability to penetrate its niche products into very competitive markets, he said. The distributor has told me they are very confident of penetrating further into the other Gulf countries with this and other quality products.

On the flip side, the company is also witnessing reduced off take by some key customers who are facing intense competition for their own products from Asia, he said. New Zealand researchers have genetically engineered a cow to produce milk free of the protein that causes allergies in children. The milk could also prove to be healthier than normal milk as it contains higher levels of the protein casein, which would result in higher calcium levels and improved cheese yields from the milk. The development targets the 2 per cent to 3 per cent of infants in the developed world who are allergic to cows' milk proteins - used in the production of baby formulas - in the first year of life. The researchers add that the success of their approach suggests it may also be used to alter other traits in livestock. The development, published this week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, uses a technique known as RNA interference to block the production of the protein, betalactoglobulin (BLG). Co-author Dr Stefan Wagner, of AgResearch in New Zealand, says BLG is produced in cows and other ruminants, but is not found in human milk. He says although it has long been suspected as a milk allergen it remains "enigmatic" and its role in cows' milk is unknown. He says the study was based on a "very simple idea - to completely knock it [BLG] out". He says to do this the team had to first develop a "designer microRNA" (short ribonucleic acid molecules) to target the BLG protein. They then developed a mouse model that could produce milk containing BLG and introduced into the mouse their designer microRNA to knockdown the expression of the BLG protein. This initial work led to a 96 per cent reduction in BLG. From embryo to cow
The team then turned its attention toward cloning a calf with the same anti-BLG trait by transferring 57 cloned embryos into cows. This resulted in five pregnancies with one live female calf, known as Daisy, born without a tail - a defect the researchers say is linked to the cloning rather than the omission of BLG. The team then hormonally induced Daisy to lactate and analysis of the milk to their surprise showed no detectable levels of BLG. Dr Wagner says Daisy was induced to lactate "to avoid the delay of two years before a natural lactation". "We only obtained small quantities over a few days for these initial studies. We now want to breed from Daisy and determine the milk composition and yield from a natural lactation. We also want to investigate the origin of Daisy's 'taillessness', a rare congenital disease in cows," he said. Dr Wagner says the absence of BLG has a strong effect on the composition of the milk, with greatly enhanced levels of other milk proteins, in particular casein. The higher levels of casein correlate with increased levels of calcium and improved cheese yields from the milk. In the future, the authors suggest the methods could potentially serve as an efficient tool to target additional genes and modify other livestock traits such as enhanced disease resistance or improved lactation performance. Dr Wagner says the researchers expect the work to raise criticism from antiGM groups, but it remains tightly regulated. The animals were being kept in containment systems and the milk is only used for analytical purposes. He says any commercial use of the milk is a long way off as the research must now wait on analysis of milk from natural lactation by Daisy.

Authorities are investigating how a farmer in the US state of Oregon was devoured by his pigs. Terry Vance Garner, 69, went to feed his animals last Wednesday on his farm by the coast, but never returned. His dentures and pieces of his body were found by a family member in the pig enclosure, but the rest of his remains had been consumed. The Coos County district attorney's office said that one of the animals had previously bitten Garner. The animals are estimated by the authorities to each weigh about 700lb (320kg). 'Good-hearted guy' Investigators say it is possible that the hogs knocked Garner over before killing and eating him But they have not ruled out the possibility that the farmer could have collapsed from a medical emergency, such as a heart attack. A pathologist was unable to determine the cause of Garner's death and his remains have been sent to the University of Oregon to be analysed by a forensic anthropologist. Garner's older brother, Michael,
described him as a "good-hearted guy". He said his brother had raised several large adult sows and a boar called Teddy, and they would sell their piglets to local children. "Those animals were his life," Michael Garner, 75, told the newspaper. "He had all kinds of birds, and turkeys that ran all over the place. Everybody knew him." Garner was a Vietnam war veteran who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, according to his brother, and the farm had been a "life-saver" for him. Michael Garner said one of the hogs had bitten his brother last year, after he had accidentally stepped on a piglet. "He said he was going to kill it, but when I asked him about it later, he said he had changed his mind," he said. Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier told the local newspaper: "For all we know, it was a horrific accident, but it's so doggone weird that we have to look at all possibilities." Mr Frasier added that he had not intended to release details about the case, but changed his mind after word spread about the incident.

The New York Attorney General has sued JP Morgan Chase for allegedly defrauding investors who lost more than $20bn (12bn) on mortgagebacked securities sold by Bear Stearns. JP Morgan bought the investment bank Bear Stearns in March 2008. It said that it would contest the allegations. This is the first action to come out of a working group created by US President Barack Obama looking into the causes of the 2008 financial crash. JP Morgan said: "The NYAG civil action relates to Bear Stearns, which we acquired over the course of a weekend at the behest of the US government. This complaint is entirely about historic conduct by that entity." Crisis spark US mortgage-backed securities were the investment products that sparked the global financial crisis in 2008. In essence, each security or bond was linked to pools of US mortgage loans, many of which were classified as subprime - mortgages awarded to highrisk and low-wage homeowners. When many of those homebuyers defaulted on their mortgages as the US property bubble burst, it turned the linked securities into bad debt. This caused billion-dollar losses at banks, who were forced to write down the value of their investments. Banks around the world were affected, not just those in the US, because the securities were resold globally. The securities had been widely purchased because rating agencies had mistakenly given them the highest possible credit rating. As banks realized they were sitting on huge liabilities, they halted lending to each other, freezing up the global financial system in the process and making it harder for businesses and individuals to borrow funds. 'Ignored deficit' The civil suit, filed by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, accuses Bear Stearns of failing to ensure the quality of loans underlying
residential mortgage-backed securities. It relates to securities sold by Bear Stearns in 2006 and 2007 - before it was taken over by JP Morgan. The legal action claims the bank "systematically failed to fully evaluate the loans, largely ignored the defects that their limited review did uncover, and kept investors in the dark about both the inadequacy of their review procedures and the defects in the underlying loans". It says that this led to the inclusion of mortgages on which borrowers were likely to default, and that investor losses in 2006 and 2007 totaled more than a quarter of the original 87bn value of the securities. The NYAG wants the company to pay an undisclosed amount of damages for investor losses "caused, directly or indirectly, by the fraudulent and deceptive acts". The BBC's business editor Robert Peston said there were some "jawdropping elements" exposed in the suit. He said it disclosed "a manic and frenzied culture of procuring and packaging as many mortgages as humanly possible, to maintain the bonds spewing from the investment bank, to generate as much short-term profit as humanly possible". "All this is a bit like the fifth installment in a series of horror films, with each succeeding production gorier than the preceding one," adds our editor. A JPMorgan spokesman accused the NYAG of not giving the bank a sufficient chance to discuss the accusations before launching the legal action. He said: "We're disappointed that the NYAG decided to pursue its civil action without ever offering us an opportunity to rebut the claims and without developing a full record instead relying on recycled claims already made by private plaintiffs. "We will nonetheless continue to work with members of the president's RMBS Working Group and are fully co-operating with their inquiries."
A former taxi driver has been convicted of raping a passenger under Brisbane's Story Bridge. The District Court in Brisbane heard 28-year-old Sunveer Jassar picked up a 27-year-old woman and two of her friends in the early hours of April 12 last year. The woman's friends were dropped off first, leaving her alone in the taxi. She asked the driver to take her to an
address in inner-city Fortitude Valley, but instead, he took her to a secluded area under the Story Bridge and raped her. Judge Terry Martin told the court the woman was highly intoxicated and highly vulnerable and Jassar's offending involved a significant breach of trust. Jassar was sentenced to seven years in jail. No order relating to parole was made.

On the 25th anniversary of the Canada/ U.S. Free Trade Agreement, Brian Mulroney says the deal continues to reap rewards for Canada on the international stage. In a wide-ranging interview with the CBC's Amanda Lang set to appear on Thursday's Lang & O'Leary Exchange, the former prime minister said he remains firmly in favour of the groundbreaking agreement. "Generally speaking it's been a success," he said of the deal that was pitched as a way to give Canadian exporters special access to the lucrative U.S. economy. Critics of the agreement argue the pact has helped outsource Canadian jobs, and not really helped the country take a bigger proportionate piece of the trade pie. Canada's share of total American imports is now lower than it was when the deal was struck, critics note, and at 19 per cent of gross domestic product, the value of Canadian exports to the U.S. is in relative terms at about the same level as before the deal. But from Mulroney's perspective, the economic advantages are obvious. In absolute terms, trade between Canada and the United States has quadrupled,
making the value of trade between Canada and the U.S. the largest amount between any two countries in the history of the world. Self-confidence "Seven hundred and fifty billion a year is astonishing," Mulroney said. "There have been millions of jobs created." But perhaps more important than the numbers are the less tangible impacts, the former prime minister argued. "The one that was a little bit of a surprise, but welcome, was the attitudinal change it brought about." Engaging so intimately with the world's largest economy was good for Canadians in more nuanced ways, and dire predictions that Canada would be colonized by the United States never came to pass, Mulroney said. "The only thing we lost was our insecurity complex vis a vis the Americans," he said. "It's made Canadians much more confident, less timorous, less fearful and more sure of themselves and more outward looking." "Canadians have become the happy warriors because they've competed head to head on the American battlefield and they won."
The country's telecommunications watchdog has fined two India-based telemarketing companies for calling Canadians registered on the national do-not-call list. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission said Wednesday the companies called residents and told them their home computer was infected with a virus. They then pushed the person to buy anti-virus software or technical support. A CRTC investigation found
the callers also sometimes requested remote access to their targets' computers. Pecon Software Limited has been ordered to pay $495,000, and Avaneesh Software Private Limited must cough up $12,000. "Foreign-based telemarketers have been put on notice that they must comply with our rules when calling Canadians," Andrea Rosen, the CRTC's chief compliance and enforcement officer, said in a statement.

Shraddha Pandit's favourite contestant Shraddha Pandit graced the Indian Idol galas supporting Amit Kumar and Devendra Pal. She showcased her versatility singing two of her different songs on the stage providing inspiration to the contestants of Indian Idol.In a small chat, Shraddha shared with us about her favourite contestant on the show. All contestants are equally good for me, but if I have to take one name out of the three contestants, then I would like to take Devendra's name because, he is very sweet. As it is, everybody is singing really well. I think it is because of some personal traits that he has I like a little more. He is very simple and very innocent and most of the time he doesn't even realize he is very humble. I remember, when we were practicing, he addressed me as didi and the way he asks whether we can do the performance one more time, is really very sweet. I have not interacted much with Vipul, but I felt him very humble and a very nice person and he sings very surila. Amit is also a ready singer whose throw and the power in songs are really good. I don't think many of them have that. Likewise everyone has their own strong and weak points which they have to work on.

Ottawa Examines High Cost Of Flying That Is Driving Travellers To U.S. Airports
We dont have an easy solution yet. While estimates peg the number of travellers avoiding Canadian airports at about five million, Gooch said the actual tally could be higher since it doesnt count people who drove to their destination instead of flying or stayed home altogether because of the high fares. NDP MP Olivia Chow urged the federal government to take action, saying reduced fees would lure passengers back to Canadian airports, spurring job creation and economic activity. (Lebel) has been talking and not acting. So I think its time that he act and lower the airport fees, Chow said in an interview. The Conservatives have been using airports as a cash cow, have been squeezing all types of taxes and rents from airports and as a result, Canadians are just going south. The Conference Board of Canada report, entitled, Driven Away: Why More Canadians Are Choosing Cross Border Airports, examined fees at Toronto Pearson International Airport, as well as major airports in Vancouver and Montreal and their cross-border competitors. Some price factors such as the rise of the Canadian dollar in recent years to near parity with the U.S. currency are beyond the control of Canadas policymakers, the Conference Board acknowledged. But, of the five million Canadian travellers heading to the U.S. to fly, the Board estimates Canadian authorities could lure about two million of them back to airports here by adjusting Canadian airline policies. Among the reports recommendations are reducing taxes and fees, reexamining the trans-border Air Travellers Security Charge, bringing Canadian aviation policy more closely in line with the U.S. approach and adjusting airline pricing strategies.
Canadians flocking to U.S. airports in search of cheaper fares have convinced the federal government to look at easing sky-high fees and taxes that are driving up the cost of Canadian tickets. Under fire from Canadian airlines and airport operators along with the millions of passengers making the trek to airports stateside, Ottawa conceded Wednesday that the trend is worrisome. Yes, we are concerned about that, said Finance Minister Jim Flaherty. Transport Minister (Denis) Lebel has been working on a consultation project with the airlines, with the airport authorities in Canada, who are very important on this issue, to try to see what we can accomplish, and well hear more from him over time, Flaherty told the media. Flaherty did not give any details on what is being considered or when the public might hear what Ottawa hopes to accomplish. His comments came after the Conference Board of Canada added to the chorus of concerns about the economic toll that sky-high fees and taxes are taking on the Canadian travel sector.
According to the Conference Board, an estimated five million passengers cross the border annually to fly from U.S. airports to escape fees and taxes that result in much higher prices for Canadian flights. Cross-border air-fare shopping is being driven by a perfect storm of factors that also includes differences in wages, aircraft prices, and industry productivity as well as U.S. aviation policies, said the studys author, Vijay Gill. For air carriers flying from American airports, these add up to a 30 per cent cost advantage. In an interview Gill said that governments in Canada can no longer turn a blind eye to the price disparity. There is a growing recognition within the policy circles that this is actually real and apparent and people do react to prices, Gill told the media. Observers point out, however, the industry in Canada has for years been asking governments to give airlines a break on fees and rents and, since it did not happen in past years when governments were running budget surpluses, it may be difficult at a time when governments
in Canada are struggling with large budget deficits. A Senate report in June said Ottawa should stop treating airports as a source of public revenue and start treating them as economic spark plugs. The study concluded that a Canadian flight between major cities can cost twice as much as a comparable flight in the United States, all because of government taxes, fees and other charges. As a start, the report said government should stop charging ground rent, which costs airports and travelers some $270 million a year. Indeed, thats one area where airport officials have been pressing for action. There are policies like rent which have been long-standing irritants that wed like to see some progress with, said Daniel-Robert Gooch, president of the Canadian Airports Council. He said hes encouraged that the issue is now in the spotlight but cautioned against expecting any quick fixes. Its a positive sign that the file is one that is getting attention. We know that government has heard, Gooch said in an interview.

Longer sleep hours could prevent the onset of diabetes among teenagers, besides improving their insulin resistance, suggests a new study. "High levels of insulin resistance can lead to the development of diabetes," said Karen Matthews, who teaches psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. "We found that if teens that normally get six hours of sleep per night get one extra hour of sleep, they would improve insulin resistance by nine percent," said Matthews, who led the study. Insulin resistance is a set of metabolic dysfunctions linked with or contributing to a range of serious health conditions that include type 2 diabetes (formerly called adult-onset diabetes), metabolic syndrome, and obesity, among others. The study tracked the sleep duration and insulin resistance levels of 245 healthy high school students. Participants provided a fasting blood draw, and they kept a sleep log and wore a wrist actigraph for one week during the school year, the journal SLEEP reported. Results show that higher insulin resistance is associated with shorter sleep duration independent of race, age, gender, waist circumference, and body mass index, according to a Pittsburgh statement. The study is the only one in healthy adolescents that shows a relationship between shorter sleep and insulin resistance that is independent of obesity, added Matthews.
Researchers have discovered a new genetic mutation responsible for deafness and hearing loss associated with Usher syndrome type 1. These findings could help researchers develop new therapeutic targets for those at risk for this syndrome. For the study, researchers at the University of Cincinnati (UC) and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center work together with the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Kentucky. Usher syndrome is a genetic defect that causes deafness, night-blindness and a loss of peripheral vision through the progressive degeneration of the retina. In this study, researchers were able to pinpoint the gene which caused deafness in Usher syndrome type 1 as well as deafness that is not associated with the syndrome through the genetic analysis of 57 humans from Pakistan and Turkey, said Zubair Ahmed, PhD, assistant professor of ophthalmology who conducts research at Cincinnati Children's and is the lead investigator on this study. Ahmed stated that a protein, called CIB2, which binds to calcium within a cell, is associated with deafness in Usher syndrome type 1 and nonsyndromic hearing loss. To date, mutations affecting CIB2 are the most common and prevalent genetic cause of non-syndromic hearing loss in Pakistan. However, we have also found another mutation of the protein that contributes to deafness in Turkish populations, he said. In animal models, CIB2 is found in the mechanosensory stereocilia of the inner earhair cells, which respond to fluid motion and allow hearing and balance, and in retinal photoreceptor cells, which convert light into electrical signals in the eye, making it possible to see, explained Saima Riazuddin, PhD, assistant professor in UC's department of otolaryngology who conducts research at Cincinnati Children's and is co-lead investigator on the study. Researchers found that CIB2 staining is often brighter at shorter row stereocilia tips than the neighboring stereocilia of a longer row, where it may be involved in calcium signaling that regulates mechano-electrical transduction, a process by which the ear converts mechanical energyor energy of motioninto a form of energy that the brain can recognize as sound. With this knowledge, we are one step closer to understanding the mechanism of mechano-electrical transduction and possibly finding a genetic target to prevent non-syndromic deafness as well as that associated with Usher syndrome type 1, Ahmed said.

This Khan hosted the reality TV show Bigg Boss, which was a hit in the TV world. He brought a strong personality to the picture through this show, where he made silly jokes, yelled at the inmates and even asked really shocking questions. But, hey, he was probably the best suited person for hosting a show like Bigg Boss! 4. Priyanka Chopra: He was one of the first to go into the world of TV. He did it because he was in need for money, but he ended up with one of the most memorable performances. He won over millions of hearts by hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati, one of the best TV shows ever showed on the prime slot in Star. He also happens to be the most appreciated hosts of a TV show. 2. 6.Karan Johar: Akshay is well known to be a daredevil himself. The actor also has martial arts training, which makes him capable of doing a lot of physically amazing things. He became the host of Khatron ke Khiladi, the Indian version of Fear Factor. This show was released in 2009 and it became a huge success. The stunts depicted in the show were ferocious and definitely scary, but Akshay Kumars warm character and sense of humour definitely helped the actors pull through these stunts.
His show, Oye its Friday is one of the funniest and most entertaining shows on TV. It is well thought out, well scripted and amazing on the whole. Farhan Akhtars funny, goofy character also adds a lot to this show. The premise of the show itself is new and millions of people are already

Movie Review
OMG
It actually transpired in 2008 in Nebraska in the United States. A Senator filed a lawsuit against God, seeking a ruling against "God's harmful activities". The grievance got instantly dismissed by the court because God could not be notified for the lack of a proper address. Much earlier, in 2001, in an Australian movie THE MAN WHO SUED GOD, starring Billy Connolly and directed by Mark Joffe, a fisherman defies an insurance company which rejected compensation for a destroyed boat, since, the insurance company claims, it was damaged due to an 'Act of God'. Distressed, the fisherman files a claim against God, naming church administrators as ambassadors of God and thereby the respondents. And now we have our very own Kanjibhai (Paresh Rawal), a businessman, filing a lawsuit against God and challenging the insurance company, which refuses compensation for a destroyed shop because of an earthquake, since, the insurance company argues, it was destroyed due to an 'Act of God'. Troubled, the businessman files a claim against God, naming various godmen or dharmagurus as delegates of God and by this means, the respondents. Be cautioned! Paresh Rawal brings up sensitive issues in OMG - OH MY GOD! discussing the Almighty and godmen. In fact, he mocks at the malpractices of phony godmen, takes pot-shots against superstitions and the unfounded rituals that we sightlessly pursue and hits out at the money-making industry that religion has developed into in the present day. Chances are you may find his sarcastic and scornful statements offensive. Also, a graceful silk dhoti, gold
circlet/headdress and jewel-studded ornaments that's the way God was depicted in most Hindi movies of yore (YEHI HAI ZINDAGI). But films like VAAH! LIFE HO TOH AISI! (2005) and GOD TUSSI GREAT HO (2008) made an exception, portraying God in a modern avtaar, like the Hollywood movie BRUCE ALMIGHTY (2003) did. Now Akshay Kumar appears elegantly dressed in formal suits and designer outfits, depicting the role of Lord Krishna in OMG - OH MY GOD!. OMG - OH MY GOD! Is an adaptation of the enormously admired play 'Krishan Vs Kanhaiya'. For those who have viewed the play, get ready to be surprised by some fresh sequences/episodes that have been integrated in the movie. But those who haven't watched 'Krishan Vs Kanhaiya', then watching its film interpretation should be a fine experience. It has all the elements that make a movie work: an interesting premise, amusing episodes and an underlining message that settles with you. Kanji Mehta [Paresh Rawal] is an atheist, who runs an antique shop. For him, God and religion are nothing more than a business proposition. He purchases idols of God and sells them as antique idols at double or triple its original price. His wife, on the other hand, is a devout believer. When a slight tremor of an earthquake shakes the city, it causes the destruction of only one shop in the entire city -Kanji's shop. The insurance company invokes this act of God and promptly rejects the claim. Frustrated, and left with no option, Kanji decides to file a case against God on the premise that if God is responsible for his loss, then it is God's responsibility to compensate him for his losses.
Kanji sends legal notices to the various high priests and heads of various religious sects. In the court, Kanji argues his own case, not because he doesn't trust any lawyer, but because it's difficult to find a lawyer who is willing to put God on trial. The proceedings begin. An agitated crowd gathers outside the court premises and upon sighting Kanji emerging from the court, run to attack him. Just as Kanji begins to lose ground, a man enters... riding a bike. He swoops Kanji off the road straight on his bike and speeds off. The man introduces himself. His name is Lord Krishna... the God. OMG - OH MY GOD! Carries a social message, a significant one, but the best part is, it does so without losing the wit and humor. Most importantly, it doesn't get preachy, nor does it deviate into the sermonizing mode. The film demonstrates Kanji as a nastik or a non-believer in God at the very outset, who, paradoxically, uses religion to run his business. The episodes in the first hour raise a chuckle, in fact you wear a smile ceaselessly. The turn of events in the latter part gives the film that extra sheen, thus raising the bar. The courtroom drama is transfixing and the underlying message that God dwells within us is profoundly heartwarming. Director Umesh Shukla keeps you involved in the on-screen happenings, courtesy an absorbing screenplay. Also, Umesh's choice of actors for supporting roles adds a lot of sparkle to various sequences. On the flipside, the film is stretched in the second half (more towards the final stages). Also, the execution of a few sequences is plain ordinary. To cite an instance, the introduction of Akshay could've been more dramatic and spectacular.
Oh My God
OMG - OH MY GOD! is the cinematic adaptation of a play, but in keeping with the splendor of Hindi movies and the requirement of the script, the sets/production values (right from Kanji's shop to his Bhuleshwar home to the courtroom) are most appropriate. There's not much scope for songs in the movie, but the 'Go Govinda' song is full-on energetic. Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal -- this is a deadly combo when it comes to satirist flicks. The duo is by now famous when it comes to keeping the audience in splits with their faultless humorist timing. Paresh Rawal is acknowledged as a supremely accomplished and consummate actor of our times. The veteran carries the film on his shoulders and executes this challenging character with candor. He's the show-stopper, the scene stealer. Akshay Kumar is significantly present in the second half and is fabulous in a role that seems tailor-made for him. His sequences with Paresh contribute enormously to the delightful moments. Mithun Chakraborty is incredible in a role that has negative shades. Om Puri is exceptional in a cameo. Mahesh Manjrekar is effective. Govind Namdev leaves a strong impression. Nikhil Ratnaparkhi is satisfactory. Murli Sharma and Poonam Jhawar are alright. Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Dheva sparkle in a song. On the whole, OMG - OH MY GOD! Is a thought-provoking adaptation of a massively successful play. A movie tackling a sensitive and an untouched subject matter, it will find its share of advocates and adversaries, but the social message the movie conveys comes across loud and clear and that's one of the prime reasons why OMG - OH MY GOD! Becomes a deserving watch.

Fall is hear and a chill is in the air. That's nothing compared to the chilly reception one stuck up lass encounters when she heads off to college. Count Becca as one unhappy camper. Expertly acted out by Anna Kendrick this lass wants to spin tunes. DJ'ing in her blood. Where she hits the books there's a big push on groups and even her dad wants her to fit in. So Becca must overcome the problems of her singing comrades while also trying to beat the boys at their own game. The gloves come off in a hurry in this rousing comedy that's quite reminiscent of last years suprise hit, Bridesmaids. Casting is the key to Pitch Perfect along with the singing. Members of Becca's team are diverse and often at each other's throats. How they come together, if they do, is part of the charm in this pleasing 112 minute experience that's full value for laughs with a number of side issues young adults face when trying to deal with their parts and a new environment. Director Jason Moore lets loose here with some great concert moments and the singing is great to listen to. Even a sappy romance or two clicks in this fun-filled flick that's bouyant and endearing. Solid acting and a great college atmosphere contribute to make Pitch

New Zealand is an island country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses that of the North and South Islands and numerous smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island nations of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long isolation, New Zealand developed a distinctive biodiversity of both animal and plant life. Most notable are the large number of unique bird species, many of which became extinct after the arrival of humans and introduced mammals. With a mild maritime climate, the land was mostly covered in forest. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions caused by the Pacific and Indo-Australian Plates clashing beneath the earth's surface. Polynesians settled New Zealand in 12501300 CE and developed a distinctive Mori culture, and Europeans first made contact in 1642 CE. The introduction of potatoes and muskets triggered upheaval among Mori early during the 19th century, which led to the inter-tribal Musket Wars. In 1840 the British and Mori signed a treaty making New Zealand a colony of the British Empire. Immigrant numbers increased sharply and conflicts escalated into the New Zealand Wars, which resulted in much Mori land being confiscated in the mid North Island. Economic depressions were followed by periods of political reform, with women gaining the vote during the 1890s, and a welfare state being established from the 1930s. After World War II, New Zealand joined Australia and the United States in the ANZUS security treaty, although the United States later, until 2010, suspended the treaty after New Zealand banned nuclear weapons. New Zealand is part of the intelligence sharing among the Anglosphere countries, the UKUSA Agreement. New Zealanders enjoyed one of the highest standards of living in the world in the 1950s, but the 1970s saw a deep recession, worsened by oil shocks and the United Kingdom's entry into the European Economic Community. The country underwent major economic changes during the 1980s, which transformed it from a protectionist to a liberalised
free-trade economy. Markets for New Zealand's agricultural exports have diversified greatly since the 1970s, with once-dominant exports of wool being overtaken by dairy products, meat, and recently wine.
The majority of New Zealand's population is of European descent; the indigenous Mori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and nonMori Polynesians. English, Mori and New Zealand Sign Language are the official languages, with English predominant. Much of New Zealand's culture is derived from Mori and early British settlers. Early European art was dominated by landscapes and to a lesser extent portraits of Mori. A recent resurgence of Mori culture has seen their traditional arts of carving, weaving and tattooing become more mainstream. Many artists now combine Mori and Western techniques to create unique art forms. The country's culture has also been broadened by globalisation and increased immigration from the Pacific Islands and Asia. New Zealand's diverse landscape provides many opportunities for outdoor pursuits and has provided the backdrop for a number of big budget movies. New Zealand is organised into 11 regional councils and 67 territorial authorities for local government purposes; these have less autonomy than the country's long defunct provinces did. Nationally, executive political power is exercised by the Cabinet, led by the Prime Minister. Queen Elizabeth II is the country's head of state and is represented by a Governor-General. The Queen's Realm of New Zealand also includes Tokelau (a dependent territory); the Cook Islands and Niue (self-governing but in free association); and the Ross Dependency, which is New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica. New Zealand is a
member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, Commonwealth of Nations, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Pacific Islands Forum, and the United Nations. New Zealand place names Aotearoa (often translated as "land of the long white cloud") is the current Mori name for New Zealand, and is also used in New Zealand English. It is unknown whether Mori had a name for the whole country before the arrival of Europeans, with Aotearoa originally referring to just the North Island. Abel Tasman sighted New Zealand in 1642 and called it Staten Landt, supposing it was connected to a landmass of the same name at the southern tip of South America. In 1645 Dutch cartographers renamed the land Nova Zeelandia after the Dutch province of Zeeland. British explorer James Cook subsequently anglicised the name to New Zealand. Mori had several traditional names for the two main islands, including Te Ikaa-Mui (the fish of Mui) for the North Island and Te Wai Pounamu (the waters of greenstone) or Te Waka o Aoraki (the canoe of Aoraki) for the South Island. Early European maps labelled the islands North (North Island), Middle (South Island) and South (Stewart Island / Rakiura). In 1830 maps began to use North and South to distinguish the two largest islands and by 1907 this was the accepted norm. The New Zealand Geographic Board discovered in 2009 that the names of the North Island and South Island had never been formalised, but there are now plans to do so.[The board is also considering suitable Mori names, with Te Ika-a-Mui and Te Wai Pounamu the most likely choices according to the chairman of the Mori Language Commission. History The Queen of New Zealand and her representative, the Governor-General
The Parliament of New Zealand holds legislative power and consists of the Sovereign (represented by the Governor-General) and the House of Representatives. It also included an upper house, the Legislative Council, until this was abolished in 1950. The supremacy of the House over the Sovereign was established in England by the Bill of Rights 1689 and has been ratified as law in New Zealand. The House of Representatives is democratically elected and a Government is formed from the party or coalition with the majority of seats. If no majority is formed a minority government can be formed if support from other parties during confidence and supply votes is assured. The Governor-General appoints ministers under advice from the Prime Minister, who is by convention the Parliamentary leader of the governing party or coalition. Cabinet, formed by ministers and led by the Prime Minister, is the highest policy-making body in government and responsible for deciding significant government actions. By convention, members of cabinet are bound by collective responsibility to decisions made by cabinet. Judges and judicial officers are appointed non-politically and under strict rules regarding tenure to help maintain constitutional independence from the government. This theoretically allows the judiciary to interpret the law based solely on the legislation enacted by Parliament without other influences on their decisions. The Privy Council in London was the country's final court of appeal until 2004, when it was replaced with the newly established Supreme Court of New Zealand. The judiciary, headed by the Chief Justice, includes the Court of Appeal, the High Court, and subordinate courts.[

Since the Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 sedans were last completely redesigned, six years ago, much has changed among compact sport sedans. All of its rivals have seen more recent redesigns, and this year BMW and MercedesBenz have turned to turbocharged fourcylinder engines in their base models of 3-Series and C-Class, respectively. Except for the IS-F high-performance version and IS C hardtop convertibles that have been added in the meantime, there's not all that much to differentiate a 2012 from a 2006. All considered, the 2012 Lexus IS sedans still look great, with a sleek, low, and attractive silhouette; the rather low hoodline and rising beltline altogether gives it a wedge-like appearance from some angles--and an undeniable gofast look compared to the more luxuryoriented (and Camry-based) ES 350. The IS models got a light touch-up last year in front and in back, including new exhaust tips, HID headlamps with LED running lamps on the IS 350, and a new 17-inch wheel design. An F-Sport Package gives the IS an even more serious performance look. Inside, the IS sedans arguably show their age the most, with a rather tight, cockpitlike layout--although trims feel upscale and high-quality. Lexus positions its cars along two tracks--one plush and detached, the other more visceral and sporty--and the 2012 IS sedans fit into the latter. If you want to make the most of that performance feel, though, just don't go with the base 204-horsepower, 2.5-liter V-6; it's smooth but remarkably short
Autos
on power, especially with the automatic transmission. IS 350 models come with a much more enjoyable 306-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 but unfortunately only come with the six-speed automatic. They're a good, responsive team, and overall the IS feels quite agile but never quite on the same high dynamic ground as the BMW 3-Series or Infiniti G37. Rear-wheel drive IS models have a better steering feel than AWD versions. Inside, the 2012 IS 350 and IS 250 models are true luxury sedans in that they come with leather upholstery, top-notch materials, and a long list of standard features, even in base versions. But as with most compact sport sedans in this class, there's quite a bit of tire thrum and road coarseness. Front seats are well contoured and firmly padded, bit the IS sedans are tight inside; adults trying to ride in back will find a severe shortage of headroom and legroom, and some taller than six feet might find headroom tight up front. The 2012 IS Sedans are completely up to snuff with respect to features. Bluetooth hands-free capability is included across the model line, and upgrades include a nav system, retractable moonroof, ventilated front seats, dynamic radar cruise control, adaptive front lighting, and a backup camera. The base sound system includes 13 speakers and 194 watts of power and has iPod connectivity and Bluetooth audio streaming. A 300watt Mark Levinson surround sound system includes ten separate amplifier channels and also has the capability to play audio DVDs and DVD movies.

People with heart disease or diabetes are advised to limit themselves to 200 mg of dietary cholesterol per day with less than 7% of calories from saturated fat. Do that by cutting down on foods that are high in cholesterol, saturated fat and trans fat. Read more about how to lower your cholesterol through activity and food, including plant sterols. For more information on dietary fats and cholesterol, please see our healthy eating brochure here. One of the common complaints I hear from my clients is that theyre tired of eating egg-white omelettes at Sunday brunch. When I ask why they dont use the yolk, I always get the same answer: Yolks are rich in cholesterol, which is bad for my blood cholesterol levels. My clients are pleased to hear that Canadas Food Guide recommendations for Meat and Alternatives include eggs yolk and all. The Guide says that eggs can be part of a nutritious diet. If, like most of my clients, you are surprised to learn this news, read on to see how you can incorporate eggs into a healthy eating plan. Eggs and cholesterol just 1.6 grams of saturated fat and no trans fat, scientists have recently concluded that the earlier link between eggs and blood cholesterol was largely exaggerated. Eggs in moderation In general, studies show that for healthy people with no history of heart disease, diabetes or high blood cholesterol, eating an average of one egg per day (or seven eggs per week) does not increase the long-term risk of heart disease. However, foods that contain high levels of dietary cholesterol, such as egg yolks, may have a small effect on blood cholesterol levels in people diagnosed with high blood cholesterol or type 2 diabetes. A recent study showed that individuals with type 2 diabetes need to watch their egg intake because it can increase their risk of heart disease. The Canadian Diabetes Association suggests that people with diabetes may have up to two eggs per week. If you have either one of these conditions, or any other concerns about your health, speak to your healthcare provider, who will advise you on how much food containing dietary cholesterol you should eat. Egg nutrition One large egg contains 70 calories, six grams of high-quality protein and five grams of total fat, most of which is the healthy, unsaturated type. Eggs are a source of zinc, vitamin A, vitamin D and B-vitamins including folate, riboflavin and B6. Eggs also contain the antioxidant lutein, which may protect against the progress of early heart disease. Egg facts Brown vs. white: Eggshell colour depends upon the breed of the hen. Both colours provide the same nutritional value. Storage: Eggs should be stored in their original carton, which prevents them from absorbing strong odours from other foods in the fridge. Store them inside the fridge, not in the refrigerator door. Freshness: Use the best-before date, which indicates that eggs will be grade A quality as long as they have not expired. To double-check freshness, gently place a raw egg in a bowl of water. A fresh egg will sink while an older egg will float.
Foods high in saturated fat include fatty meats, full-fat dairy products, butter, hard margarines, lard, coconut oil, ghee (clarified butter), vegetable ghee, and palm oil. Saturated fat can raise unhealthy LDL cholesterol. Trans fat Like saturated fat, trans fat raises unhealthy LDL cholesterol but also lowers healthy HDL cholesterol. Try to limit products that list vegetable oil shortening or partially hydrogenated oil in the ingredients. Trans fat is found in partially hydrogenated margarines,
How much fat should you eat in a day? Remember that since all fats are calorieheavy, you'll need to use even the healthier ones in moderation. A healthy eating pattern includes between 20% to 35% of your day's calories from fat. For women, this works out to 45 to 75 grams of fat a day, and for men, 60 to 105 grams of fat a day. (For example, 15 mL (1 tbsp) of oil equals about 14 grams.) The amount of fat a child or adolescent needs depends on their height, build, gender and activity level. Young children need a slightly higher amount of fat for growth and development, but this need decreases as they age. What is dietary cholesterol? The liver makes about 80% of the cholesterol in your body. The other 20% comes from the foods you eat. The foods that raise your blood cholesterol the most are saturated fat and trans fat in such foods as fatty meat and wholefat dairy products, snack foods and some ready-prepared foods. Foods that have high levels of dietary cholesterol include egg yolks, organ meats, shrimp, squid and fatty meats. Dietary cholesterol only has an effect in some people. From a nutrition perspective, the best way to control blood cholesterol is to eat a healthy diet that is lower in fat, especially saturated and trans fat. Studies show that for healthy people with no history of heart disease, diabetes or high blood cholesterol, eating an average of one egg per day (or seven eggs per week) does not increase the long-term risk of heart disease. Research from the 1970s reported that high-cholesterol foods, especially eggs, raise blood cholesterol levels. These early studies included foods that were rich in both cholesterol and saturated fat (such as butter), so scientists incorrectly believed that cholesterol was the main culprit. When researchers recently re-evaluated the data, they learned that diets high in saturated or trans fat not dietary cholesterol are mostly responsible for increases in blood cholesterol levels. Saturated and trans fats are found in foods such as fatty meat, wholefat dairy products and packaged and processed foods made with hydrogenated oils such as cookies, french fries and doughnuts. Coconut Oil as Hair Conditioner For deep conditioning, coconut oil is best applied directly to your hair. You can do this either with liquid or solidified coconut oil. Apply this to your hair right after shampooing. Put half a teaspoon of coconut oil in your palms and rub your hands together. Run your hands through your hair, concentrating on the tips. Try to avoid putting any oil on the roots of your hair or on your scalp, doing so will make your hair look greasy and oily. For deep conditioning, you may consider wrapping your head in a shower cap after youve applied the oil and leave it on for half an hour. After that, rinse your hair thoroughly with water. Coconut Oil as Dandruff Treatment
1. If you are short, then you should make your kameez a little longer in length. This will make you look taller. If your height is around 5 feet 3 inches then your kameez height should be around 47- 48 inches. You can also wear a Chinese collar (closed neck) makes you look tall. 2. If you have broad shoulders then avoid wearing puffed sleeves or Chinese collar top as this will make you look wider. 3. If you have fat arms and therefore cannot wear sleeveless then go in for sleeves of about 5 inches length. This will hide the flab on your arms and your hands will look thinner. 4. Salwar or shalwar are made in different styles according to the trends
and outfit. Currently Patiala salwar, Dhoti salwar, Kowl salwar, Double ghair salwars, Parallel Pants, Trousers like pajamas with short kurtas / tops were in vogue. 5. Chudidar salwar looks good on long kameez, Anarkali style shirt, Peshwas or Kurtas which give you a traditional look. 6. If you have a slight belly then you should try and wear a shalwar around your naval area, as it will pull in your stomach and make you look thinner. If you have the tie strings on your side, it reduces the look of the pounch. Tucks might be out of fashion but they give a very good fit to the Kameez. Avoid Organza or any stiff cloth if you want to look slimmer.
Coconut oil is also great as an antidandruff treatment, whether your dandruff is caused by dryness or by fungi. Coconut oil can help your scalp regain its moisture, and it also works as an anti-fungal agent. With regular use, coconut oil can help alleviate your dandruff problem and keep it away. Take two tablespoons of coconut oil, and work it through your scalp. For best results, keep it on overnight at least once a week. After the treatment, rinse your hair thoroughly with water. To get instant relief from the flaking and the itching, mix in some lemon juice with your coconut oil. Simply squeeze out a whole lemon into your coconut oil, mix thoroughly, and then massage the mixture through your scalp. Do this regularly to keep dandruff under control. Coconut Oil to Promote Hair Growth Many factors can be attributed to thinning or balding hair. One is genetics. If baldness or receding hairlines runs in your family, chances are youll suffer from it too. Another cause could be poor diet, lifestyle, or a simple lack in hair care. To help prevent massive hair fall, or to try and get that thick head of healthy hair, do a simple coconut oil treatment. Just liberally apply coconut oil on your scalp, and try to do this daily. Coconut oil helps in revitalizing and strengthening hair follicles, hence stimulating growth and preventing it from any further breakage. For added benefits, take a tablespoon of coconut oil or a tablet of coconut oil supplement each day.

Camilo Sanvezzo blew a chance to give the Vancouver Whitecaps a crucial win over Seattle last weekend when he missed an open goal from close range in the games dying seconds. He slumped to the ground in despair after his shot went inches wide of the post. But the diminutive Brazilian striker came back with a vengeance Wednesday, leading the Caps with a goal and two assists as Vancouver thrashed a listless Chivas USA side 4-0 in front of 17,777 fans at BC Place Stadium. It was the Caps biggest winning margin in their brief MLS history, ending a seven-game winless streak and giving the team three huge points in their quest for a Major League Soccer playoff berth. The goal-scoring explosion came after the Whitecaps had scored just three goals in their previous seven matches and the club now has a five-point lead over FC Dallas for the fifth and final playoff position in the MLS Western Conference. Vancouver has two games remaining while Dallas has three matches left, including two against a last-place Chivas club that extended its winless streak to 11 games in Vancouver. The Whitecaps employed a textbook strategy against a team clearly lacking confidence by scoring early and often. Camilo, the Caps MVP last season with 12 goals, played like a man on a mission as he collected his fifth goal of the season and his sixth and seventh assists. He was involved in all four Vancouver goals but wasnt given an

SIDE KICKS: The Caps get an extended break now as they wont play until hosting Portland on Oct. 21, with their final regular-season game coming six days later in Salt Lake. ... Miller (Scotland), Richards (Jamaica), Carlyle Mitchell (Trinidad & Tobago) and Atiba Harris (St. Kitts and Nevis) have all been called up for international duty starting next week. I think we'd all want to be playing right now rather than December, but it may end up coming to that or worse," said goalie Cory Schneider. None of the locked out members of the Vancouver Canucks figure to be mistaken for Clark Griswold. They just dont seem anxious to take a European vacation. The Canucks are the only NHL team without a regular roster member playing in Europe and despite Tuesdays gloomy news out of New York; none
seem in a rush to head overseas. Were all thinking about it, defenseman Kevin Bieksa said after skating Tuesday at UBC. We dont want to miss a whole season and you obviously want to stay as sharp as you can for when the season starts, but everyone has probably had a couple of deals or offers by now and you just kind of keep it on the back-burner and see what happens. Bieksa confirmed he has had more than a couple of European offers.
The Suva soccer team will be known as the Finance Pacific Suva for the 2012 Courts Inter-District Championship next week. This was after Suva received a total sponsorship of $5000 from Finance Pacific Corporation Limited. Finance Pacific Corporation Limited is a local homegrown finance company operating since September 2006 and its focus has been to finance small and medium entrepreneurs. Company director Siddharth Nandan said sponsoring Suva football is something to give back to the community. We love to come on board and support Suva for the IDC, this is just to give something back to the community, he said.
We have been sponsoring some schools and our aim is to continue and serve the community. Representing Suva Football Association Bijendra Pratap said this would boost their preparation. This timely sponsorship will be a big boost for the players. We have been waiting for this a long time and it has finally come. This money will be allocated in buying the players boots and they will be given $100 each before the tournament. The IDC will be played from October 10-14 at Govind Park in Ba. Meanwhile, the Nadi soccer team will be known as the Fairdeal Nadi during the IDC.

THE Cubana Boxing Federation is willing to help lift amateur boxing in Fiji. This was after a successful meeting of Fiji's Minister for Youth and Sports, Vilimae Naupoto and his Cuban counterparts. The CBF is now not only committed to sending boxing coaches to Fiji but also to train more coaches, administrators, technical officials and referees over a period of time. Cuban Boxing president Alberto Barca informed Naupoto that Cuba's record, experience and knowledge of amateur boxing at the international level would be shared with Fiji. "We are willing to teach your amateur boxing officials with the new AIBA rules to be adopted after the London Olympics, example like no more head gear in competition, and the adoption of gloves to suit the weight division of

have very experienced players in the team, said Moshin. We needed to win this tournament badly after we lost in two FANCA finals in Australia and New Zealand few years ago. It has been sweet to have players like Zibraz Sahib. I thank Rishi (Kumar) for releasing Abhu Zahid to play in the final after he was in camp with the Ba team. Fijis last won the main tournament back in 1996. Meanwhile, Fiji also won the Under-21 category after defeating defending champions NZ 1 0.

"Fiji is coming to us at a right time when we are putting plans together, for the next Olympics in Rio, Brazil and we can share this with your country," Barca said. "Cuba knows that boxing in the islands all over the world comes naturally." He said if Fiji could do well in rugby, then it had the potential to be world beaters in boxing. Naupoto assured the Cuban amateur body that Fiji appreciates their interest to assist the sport in the country. Naupoto will be signing a MOU on co-operation to establish a relationship and agreement through sports between Cuba and Fiji. Accompanying Naupoto is Boxing Commission of Fiji official Malakai Veisamasama.
