This will be carried out as method statement No. 005 Backfilling to Retaining Wall bases and Pads. Prefabricate shutters and reinforcement. The Assembly and striking of the panel formwork will be as the SGB formwork Method Statement dated May 2000. All works to be in accordance with SGB Drg. AFM-7396-02B. The formwork will be erected in sections on the ground prior to erection. The reinforcement will be pre-assembled on the ground in section ready to be lifted in. Fix reinforcement. The pre-assembled reinforcement will be lifted into position with the crane prior to the wall shutters being erected and tied to the starter bars. Scaffold will be pre erected and lifted into position to aid the fixers at high level. A scaffold will be erected at the positions of the bolts to enable the steelfixers to cut and fix the steel. Erect scaffold. Scaffold will be pre erected and lifted into position to aid the fixers at high level. A scaffold will be erected at the positions of the bolts to enable the steelfixers to cut and fix the steel. The scaffold will be a ridged board and tube scaffold, which will be moved by the crane as work progresses.

Once one side of the formwork is assembled it will be lifted into position with the crane and propped. The shutters will be fixed in position as SGB permanent props and drawing. The shutters will be lifted using the lifting clamps supplied by SGB. Once this has been done the clamps will be released manually. Ladders will be used for short duration activity only to release the clamps. Once the steel is complete and passed the second shutter will be lifted into position with the crane. Once in position the formwork will propped and tied with through tie equipment and soldiers. The working platform will be fixed to the shutter prior to erection. Access to the working platform will be by ladder securely fixed to the platform. The formwork will be aligned with suitable adjustable props. Stop end will be fixed in position and strutted. Pour concrete. The concrete will be poured from the mixer into a skip. The crane will lift the skip with the concrete over the shutters. The concrete will be released into the shutters at an even pace as the pour rate calculation on the SGB Drawing. The concrete will be vibrated as work proceeds. Once the concrete has reached the top of the shutter the exposed surface will be trowel and covered for protection. Strip formwork. Striking will take place when the concrete is suitably cured. The shutters will then be lifted and moved into the next position as above. This is a rolling sequence. LABOUR: 1 No. Supervisor 3 No. Joiners will be used for the erection of the shutters and pouring of the concrete. 2 No. Steelfixers will be used to pre-assemble the wall steel and tie in position. 1 No. Crane operator to operate the crane 1 No. Signaller to bank the crane.

The work must be supervised. The foreman will be the person responsible for the supervision of the operations. The works will be carried out by experienced operatives who will be supervised during the whole of the works. Only experiencedtrained operatives will operate the plant and equipment. Statutory examinations will be carried out on all plant, equipment with records kept. Only authorised-trained operatives will be permitted to drive any plant vehicles and mount abrasive wheels on company machines. The scaffolding will be erected by a competent scaffolder and checked and signed off prior to use or after it has been moved. All backfilling to adjacent bases are to be completed prior to fixing of reinforcement and wall shutters, to provide a clear working platform. All protruding reinforcement to be protected with proprietary caps or boards to prevent injury as work proceeds. The workplace to be kept free from tripping hazards and this will include de-nailing timbers as work proceeds. The ladder is to be footed and used at the correct angle of repose. GENERAL: It is our intention to promote a safe working environment and to this end, we would insist on full co-operation from all contractors and the general public. The works will be carried out by experienced operatives who will be supervised during the whole of the works. All operatives will be issued with personal protection equipment. All operatives will be expected to wear any, and all personal protection equipment provided. Operatives failing to wear the equipment or take care of themselves or others will be reported to the office and disciplinary action will be taken. All plant operators to hold a valid CTA card or CPCS card. Only experienced trained operatives will operate the plant and equipment. Statutory examinations will be carried out on all plant, equipment with records kept, daily and weekly. Only authorised-trained operatives will be permitted to drive any plant vehicles and mount abrasive wheels on company machines. No excavations to commence until a permit to dig has been issued and all services have been located. When reversing wagons a banksman should be in attendance at all times. All excavation will be fenced off at all times. Ladders used only for access and egress. Only trained operatives are to enter a confined space.

Once the steelfixers have completed the scaffold will be removed completely and the shutters will be erected. A scaffold will be erected on the shuttering to BOTH SIDES of the shutters to enable the operatives concreting to work both sides of the shutter. Once the concrete has been poured the scaffold will be removed and the shutter stripped. Pour concrete. Method by Concrete Skip and Crane The concrete will be poured from the mixer into a skip. The crane will lift the skip with the concrete over the shutters. The concrete will be released into the shutters at an even pace as the pour rate calculation on the SGB Drawing. The concrete will be vibrated as work proceeds. Once the concrete has reached the top of the shutter the exposed surface will be trowel and covered for protection.

Method by Concrete Pump. The concrete will be poured from the mixer directly into the back of the concrete pump. The concrete will be pumped through the pump directly into the shutter at an even pace as the pour rate calculation on the SGB drawing. The concrete will be vibrated as work proceeds.
