Slovenian Broadcasting Group Information

The Republic of Slovenia lies at the heart of Europe, where the Alps and the Mediterranean meet the Pannonia plains and the mysterious Kras. To the north is Austria; to the east, Hungary; to the south, Croatia; and to the west, Italy. Slovenia is land of countless attractions on just 20,273 km2, a country that surprises you with nature under and above ground, small villages, friendly people or cultural centres as capital city Ljubljana, followed by second biggest city of Maribor. Slovenia became an independent state in 1991 and a member of the EU on May 1, 2004. Situated at a cultural crossroads, Slovenia has always been a place of high artistic achievements and a picture about 20 million people probably can give Slovenian sportiest like Tomaz Humar alpine climber, Davo Krnicar first person to ski nonstop down from summit of Mount Everest, Martin Strel endurance swimmer who swims rivers the Mississippi, the Danube, Paran and the Yangtze prior to the 5265 km swim in Amazon river, and many more. Slovenians are hard working and determent to succeed.

The group of Broadcasting in Slovenian Language at 3ZZZ is trying to inform and entertain 12.000 Slovenians living in Australia. The Slovenian program brings Slovenian popular music, radio reports from Slovenia, Slovenian community news and announcements. The first experimental programme of the newly established Community radio station 3ZZZ 92.3FM took place in 1987, the second in 1988. The program came to be offered on Wednesdays from 7 to 8pm.

At first there were alternating teams of radio programmers, including the younger members of Slovenian community. The experimental Slovenian program had begun in 1988 with pater Tone Gorjup , followed by Vinko Marn and pater Niko vokelj. In 1991 we heard Meta Lenari for the first time and due to her dedication we still listen to her voice to this day with help of many other dedicated Slovenians as Aljoa, Lenti and many others. For the last 10 years of Sonja Rupnik and latest Sonia Majcen. Once a month there is a Slovenian youth program, which is done by dedicated Katarina Peri and Evelyn Kojc over 10 years, Lenka and Matija Sraj who is informing and entertaining younger Slovenian community second and third generation of Slovenian Community in Melbourne.
