STUDENT SENATE MINUTES October 9, 2012 The Senate President called the meeting to order at 7:38 pm and announced

that the meeting may be filmed or audio taped and may be available to the public. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. ROLL CALL: Roll was called and quorum was established with 67 senators present. Not there for roll call: Arcales Levin Zhou Bhattacharjee Miller Rosen Beiber Moll Suarez Brailsford Norman Castaneda Perez Castillo Rausch Eubanks Sheffield Gordian Tariq Jim Williams, J AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA: 1. A motion was made to add Keith Perry on the agenda before Public Debate. a. Keith Perry, State Representative- been involved with politics, ran for office because of the future of his children. Recommended everyone to get involved and become educated on politics and political issues. 2. A motion was made to hear R&A Recommendations as a block, no objection was made. 3. A motion was made to approve R&A Recommendation block, no objection was made. AMENDMENTS TO THE PREVIOUS MINUTES: There were no amendments to the previous minutes for September 25th. PUBLIC DEBATE: - Senator Whitaker- Initially ran for Senate to be more informed about SG. Spoke about a disconnect between students and important SG news. Urged Senators to use time wisely. - Senator Lowstetter- Goodbye to all the Senators leaving and thank you! Welcomed new Senators. Talked about iPad renal program, Isis and Webmail consolidation project. - Senator Schein- Gave shout outs and a brief history of his time in Senate. Talked to new Senators about importance of being on a committee and working with constituents. - Chairwoman Sharp- Had a great experience, met a lot of people. Senate changed her career path. Bid her farewell and wished everyone good luck. - Senator Tran- Thanked Logan, her Mentor, Laren Verno, Christina Bonarrigo, and everyone else for always being helpful. Urged Senators to use their time in Senate to make a change. - Senator Lipke- Said that Senate taught her many lessons and told new senators to cherish every moment and use their time to change UF. Wished everyone good luck.

Senator Cohen- Urged Senators to step up and do a great job. Said that you get out what you put into Senate. Senator Wilson- congratulated new senators and told them to do what you want and say how you feel. Shout outs to Logan, Umair, David, Morgan, Jordan, Max, and Kyle. Senator Hartman- thanked God, her parents, friends, and Senate for making her college experience. Urged new Senators to make a difference.

OFFICE OF THE STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT None PRESIDENTS REPORT - Nominations for Paul Clark Memorial Award and John Michael Stratton Memorial Award. Award winners will be announced at the end of the year. - President Harrison also gave out paper plate awards - Farewell speech- reach out to new people, dont hold a prejudice, come into chamber with an open mind. Said he was very proud of new Senators and urged them all to find a mentor within Senate. Also said not to take things too seriously and to visit during office hours. Urged everyone to get to know committees and have fun. COMMITTEE REPORTS: REPLACEMENT & AGENDA: - Chairman thanked everyone for approving all recommendations. - Thanked Logan for all his help.

BEDGET & APPROPRIATIONS: - Met Monday about collegiate veterans and a request for refill water bottle stations. - Thanked Logan for everything and congratulated new Senators ALLOCATIONS: - Meeting Sunday 4pm SG Conference Room JUDICIARY: - Meeting Sunday 3pm in SG Conference Room RULES & ETHICS: - Chairwoman said she would miss Logan - Reminded Senators about the missing student

INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION: - Senate orientation packet will be sent out via email - Thanked Logan and all the committee chairs for all their help. Also thanked James and her mentor, Andy.

BIAS & APPREHENSION AD HOC: Nothing to report. ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY AD HOC: - Report is out and available for public. - Will go over report next meeting. - Shout out committee memnbers CERTIFY ELECTION RESULTS: - Questions: 6 - A motion was made to approve results, an objection was made. Round 1: Pro- 1 Con-1 Round 2: ProCon- 1 - A motion was made to postpone the certification of results, an objection was made - A motion was made to certify results, no objection was made. Passed.
