MSBL / MABL World Series Spotlight on

THURSDAY OCTOBER 18th, 2012

Jason Kovac (18+ Federal OC Sox)

The Orange County Wolves are made up of players from five different teams in the So Cal MABL league. Manager Jason Kovac is proud of the high quality of competition at home, and believes this is a major factor in preparing his tournament team to do well at the World Series. Now in his eighth season, 2012 marks the Wolves fifth trip to Arizona. Along with co-manager Ryan Keys, Jason experienced his first championship last year in the 18+ Federal Division. His wife, Jami is a loyal fan and serves the team as scorekeeper at all their games. They have just experienced becoming parents to daughter Mia, born in late June this year. A huge San Diego Padres fan, Jason has reason to have a hero in major league baseball. His older brother is former MLB player and current Oakland Athletics General Manager, Billy Bean. Jason says the 2011 World Series experience takes the cake. His team played and won as a team, and every guy bought into their system. The result was an unbeaten round robin series and they stayed perfect straight through the WS championship game. He is also appreciative of all former tournament teammates, and recognizes the contributions they each made in developing the style of play and confidence over the past five years. No doubt the OC Wolves are a reflection of how a very strong local league can produce championship baseball on the biggest stage in the Men's Senior & Adult Baseball League.

By Tom Prendergast

The temperature on Wednesday reached the mid 90s for the third straight day of the tournament while the MSBL National website attracted over 10,000 visitors on Tuesday. Driven to the site primarily to view the WS Daily News TV broadcast, the viewers have not been disappointed. Host Joel Beckers Game Shots segments rank at the top of the popularity list while any appearance by the extremely photogenic and captivating co-host, Amber Baleto is must see tv! Pool play games end today for the 35+ and 50+ teams, so its a must win situation for many teams. As always, the runs allowed category is most likely going to be the determining factor for several teams hoping to advance to the playoff round. While head to head is the first tie Daily Sports Store Special breaker, that only applies when every team in the division plays each other. When a wildcard MSBL 1/4 zip jackets, regularly $20, now is involved, head to head is not considered. All three MABL divisions started play yesterday $15.
