Sciences is the largest academic department at Swansea University with over 4000 students, and has multiple sites located at Swansea, Carmarthen and Aberystwyth.

Professor Melanie Jasper - Head of College Melanie has provided consultancy expertise to professional organisations and health care trusts both nationally and internationally, and is the editor of the peer - reviewed Journal of Nursing Management. Professor Gary Rolfe - Chair in the Department of Nursing Gary is also Honorary Professor of Innovation and Development in the Abertawe Bro Mangannwg Health Board, and a Visiting Professor of Practice Innovation in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College, Dublin. Professor Judith Phillips - Director of the Older People and Ageing Research and Development Network in Wales (OPAN Cymru) Judith also represents the Welsh Government on the UK Age Research Forum. Professor Ceri Phillips - Professor of Health Economics and Deputy Head of College (Research) In 2009 Ceri was appointed to the Bevan Commission by the Welsh Minister of Health and Social Services on the 60th anniversary of the NHS to advise and oversee the new conguration and structure of NHS Wales.

Professor Vanessa Burholt - Director of the Centre for Innovative Ageing Vanessa currently sits on two Wales Ofce of Research and Development Research Funding Scheme Committees, and is a research member for the National Partnership Forum for Older People. Professor David Hughes - Professor of Public Health and Policy Studies David is a Member of Faculty of the National Institute for Healthcare Research, as well as a visiting Professor for the Faculty of Public Health, Mahasarakham University, Thailand. Professor Mark Blagrove - Head of the Department of Psychology Mark is an internationally known researcher into sleep, memory, dreaming and nightmares, runs the 2 bedroom Swansea University Sleep Laboratory, and has collaborative links with Harvard Medical School and Berkeley. Professor Roger Wood - Professor of Neuropsychology Roger is a Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology and Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist at ABMU Health Board and an expert witness in traumatic brain injury in the High Court of England and Wales. Roger has provided consultancy expertise to professional organisations and health care trusts both nationally and internationally, and is on the editorial board of the peer reviewed Journal - Brain Injury.

We have a strong and diverse research base with over 65 research supervisors, including 21 professorial staff We are host to the pan-Wales research network OPAN (Older People and Ageing Network) and WICN (Wales Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience) We have recently become a leading centre for disability history research and have secured 927,501 in funding from the Wellcome Trust We have one of the largest postgraduate research communities on campus with 95+ students A recent assessment of the quality of our research ranked our research into social work and social policy as the best in Wales 80% of our research is of international and world class quality as rated by expert panels

Clinical and Technical Skills Resource Centre Bioscience practice rooms

Simulated clinical practice facilities

Specialised Psychology Laboratories Students of psychology can benet from top technology at the College, in 20 general purpose research rooms and several specialised laboratories. Osteopathic Clinic Osteopathy students can benet from a fully functional osteopathic clinic based within the College. The state-of-the-art clinic has seven practice rooms allowing students to develop their knowledge and practical skills within a teaching and learning environment. The Clinic is open to Swansea University staff, students and the general public, giving students real-life experience of working in a clinical setting.

Work Based Learning

The College of Human and Health Sciences actively encourages its students to take part in the Universitys ERASMUS programme. The Erasmus student mobility programme, funded by the European Commission, offers students the opportunity to study or work in another EU country or partner state, and for that study or work to be recognised by Swansea University as part of a degree.

The College of Human and Health Sciences has validated work based learning degrees enabling students to gain academic credits for practice development work being undertaken in their work environments.

The exchange programme is open to undergraduate students and lasts between three months to a year We have ten partner institutions across Scandinavia and also in Portugal On an annual basis around ten students from nursing and audiology take part in the exchange programme We are actively trying to expand the number of students engaging in the programme across a wider range of subjects Opportunities can often arise for students to go outside of the EU, i.e. we have previously had student exchanges with Japan, USA and Africa

There are a range of meeting rooms, seminar rooms, training and conference facilities available to hire, all located within beautifully landscaped grounds. The innovative conference facilities are situated just a few minutes from the town centre of Carmarthen, which is easily accessible from the west and M4. Facilities include:
