APPENDIX 2: You are going to listen to an interview. Please take notes about which forms of transport each person talks about.

Taped Version of the Interview: 1. Hello, I am Mei and I work in Beijing. I think the best way to get around in Beijing is by motorbike. I have got a small motorbike and it is the quickest and cheapest way for me to travel. In Beijing the buses are really crowded and I dont like them at all. The metro is the fastest way to travel, but it is not very large. Many people use bikes, but my motorbike is faster than a bike. It takes me thirty minutes to get to work.

2. Hi, my name is Fuad and I study at Cairo University. Travelling around my city is not easy because the roads are very small and very busy. The metro here is quiet small and my college is not on the metro line. That is a pity because the metro is the most comfortable way to travel in Cairo. I travel by bus to college. It is the cheapest way to travel but it is also the most popular, so the buses are very crowded. I never get a seat and it takes about an hour to get to my college. 3. Im Sandra and I live in Amsterdam. Every day I cycle to university. It only takes me about twenty minutes. The bike is the cheapest way to travel, of course and it is also very popular here, because the city is very flat. In the city center trams are the best way to get around. I always use them when I go shopping. Many tourists travel on the canal boats but I dont, because they are the most expensive way to travel.
