No Right Turn traffic arrangement trial

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) have been looking at ways to improve road safety at the intersection of Eastern Valley Way and Tenilba Street at Northbridge. Earlier this year RMS sought community feedback on options for traffic changes at the intersection. Thank you to members of the community who provided feedback.

Gonsultation results
57 responses were received over 3 week comment period in June 2012.

60 per cent preferred the option for a No Right Turn from Tenilba Street to Eastern Valley Way (northbound). 35 per cent preferred the option for new traffic lights at the intersection.
5 per cent preferred no option.

Gomment: Traffic lights will provide pedestrian facilities to safely cross Eastern Valley Way. Response: As part of the approved conditions for the redevelopment of the 'Willoughby Paddocks' residential development a signalised pedestrian crossing will be installed on Eastern Valley Way between Tarakan Crescent and Moratai Crescent. This will assist pedestrians crossing Eastern Valley way.

Comment: Right Turn should be implemented during peak hours only. Response: The crash statistics revealed that 66 per cent of right turn crashes occurred outside of the morning and afternoon peak periods. A full time ban will address the crashes that occurred outside of the peak hour periods. RMS will continue investigating the implementation of a full time ban at this
location.

As a result RMS will be trialling the No Right Turn restriction during am and pm peak times for a period of six months. The trial will allow RMS to evaluate the impact that the restriction will have on the surrounding road network. Once the trial is complete a further consultation will be conducted to allow the community to provide comments.
The changes will start on Monday 29 October 2012. The right turn restrictions will be from 6:00am to 10:00am and 3:00pm to 7:00pm, Mondays to Fridays during the trial period.
