Overview
Purpose

This document explains the requirements and detail of various steps for installing the OBIEE 10.10.3.3.2 Infrastructure Servers on an UNIX environment.

1.2

OBIEE Infrastructure Installation Road Map

Installation and configurations of OBIEE must be executed in a specific procedure. The following ordered tasks will guide in achieving the desired results 1. First make sure all the Pre-Installation Requirements defined in Section 2 are completed. 2. Install the OBIEE Infrastructure and the OBI Apps on the windows machine. 3. Install the OBIEE components (OBI Server, OBI Presentation Service and OBI Client). Only the OBI Server and the OBI Presentation Service can be installed on the UNIX environment. The OBI Client can be installed only on the windows environment. Different components can be installed on different machines or on the same machine. 4. Configure the communications between the different OBIEE components and the different databases which will be accessed by Oracle Business Intelligence.

Pre-Installation Requirements

To Install and configure the OBIEE Infrastructure on a Sun Solaris server there are certain prerequisites which must be completed. There are various Operating System, Software and Database requirements which are individually identified and explained in the following sections.

2.1
2.1.1

Operating System
User ID

A users must be created on the Unix Server who can run services and have read, write and execute privileges to the below listed directories. 2.1.2 Installation Directories

The UNIX server where OBIEE Infrastructure will be installed must have two directories created, as defined below. /OracleBI OracleBIData 2.1.3 Java Directory

During the process of OBIEE Infrastructure installation, some of the java files are updated. In order to complete this process, write access is needed to the java folder. Since write access was not granted to the root java folder a local version of java was installed with write access. (usr/dev/java) 2.1.4 File Handle Limit

The file handle limit on the UNIX server must be at least 10420 or greater. 2.1.5 English Locale

US English locale (en_US_UTF-8) must be installed on the UNIX server 2.1.6 Memory Allocations on the Installation Directories

A minimum of 2 GB memory must be allocated to the OracleBI and OracleBIData directories. 4 GB was allocated for each directory.

2.2
2.2.1

Software Requirements
Oracle Client

Oracle client must be installed on the server where the OBIEE Infrastructure will be installed and the windows machine where the OBIEE Client will be installed. The TNS names for all the databases which the OBIEE will be accessing need be included in the tnsanmes.ora file in the local client install directory. 2.2.2 Java SDK

Java SDK (Version 1.6.x or newer) must be installed on the UNIX server where the OBIEE Infrastructure will be installed and on the windows machine where the OBIEE Clients will be installed. The folder/directory name where Java SDK is installed must not have any spaces.

OBIEE Infrastructure Installation on UNIX

1. OBI Server 2. OBI Presentation Services

There are two components in the OBIEE Infrastructure.

Both the components can be installed on one machine or on different machines. Here they will be installed on different machines.

3.1

Initial Configurations

Before starting the OBIEE services some configurations need to be done, which will enable the usage of the pre-built OBI repository and Presentation catalog, and also sets the communications between the OBI server, the OBI Presentation services and the BAW database.

4.1

OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd Configuration

Open the pre-built OBI Apps repository (OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd) using the Admin tool on the windows machine. (Admin tool can be used only on windows machine) In the Physical layer open the database named Oracle Data Warehouse There will be two Connection Pools Listed there 1. Oracle Data Warehouse Connection Pool 2. Oracle Data Warehouse Repository Initblocks Connection Pool Double Click the connection pool Oracle Data Warehouse Connection Pool Connection Pool Properties window will appear. Change the Call Interface, Data Source Name, User Name, Password values to the BAW database connection details. Click OK Save the changes and exit Admin Tool. Copy the OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd to the Repository directory on the UNIX server where OBI Server is installed. /usr/dev/OracleBI/Server/Repository/

4.2

NQSConfig.INI Configuration

Go to the Config folder on the UNIX server where the OBI Server is installed (SAS Server). The default location is /OracleBI/server/config. Locate the file named NQSConfig.INI Edit the NQSConfig.ini file and change the Repository Section as shown below [ REPOSITORY ] Star = paint.rpd, DEFAULT; TO [ REPOSITORY ] Star = OracleBIAnalyticsApps.rpd, DEFAULT; Save and exit.

4.3

Presentation Catalog Configuration

When the OBI Apps are installed on the windows machine, a pre-built Presentation catalog is installed. Extract the contents of the pre-built catalog (EnterpriseBusinessAnalytics.zip) in the OracleBIData\Web\Catalog folder on to the local folder. Copy the above extracted folder to the UNIX server where the OBI Presentation Services is installed. The path where to copy is /usr/dev/OracleBIData/web/catalog.

4.4

Instanceconfig.xml file Configuration

During the installation of The OBI Presentation Services (SAW) a default Path for the Presentation Catalog is added in the Instanceconfig.xml file, that needs to be changed to the OBI Apps pre-built Presentation Catalog folder which is EnterpriseBusinessAnalytics. Edit the Instanceconfig.xml file in OracleBIData/web/config directory and change the Catalog Path to the correct directory. <WebConfig> <ServerInstance> <DSN>AnalyticsWeb</DSN> <CatalogPath>/usr/dev/OracleBIData/web/catalog/EnterpriseBusinessAnalytics</CatalogPath> Save and exit.

4.5

odbc.ini file Configuration

If the OBI Server (SAS) and the OBI Presentation Services (SAW) are installed on two different servers then the OBI Presentation Services needs to be configured to point to the OBI Server. This is done by configuring odbc.ini file. Edit odbc.ini file in /OracleBI/setup directory [AnalyticsWeb] Driver=/usr/dev/OracleBI/server/Bin/libnqsodbc.so Description=Oracle BI Server ServerMachine=obid001.starbucks.net Repository= Catalog= UID= PWD= Port=9703 Save and exit.
