Clinical Trial Database The data presented here are from a clinical trial that was conducted to compare

the safety and efficacy of three different compounds (A, B, and C) and a placebo (D) in the treatment of patients who exhibited characteristic signs and symptoms of depression. Certain predrug (baseline) determinations were made on each of the 100 patients to determine their suitability for the study. Each patient who qualified for the study was assigned at random to one of the four treatment groups and was dispensed medication for the duration of the study. Neither the investigator nor the patient knew which medication had been assigned. At the end of the study, scores on numerous anxiety and depression scales were made. Descriptions of the variables measured their codes are as follows.
