Angus Fraser JWT Managing Director
Angus believes the best communication ideas combine channel and content thinking in equal measure. The SMA awards are therefore an important way to recognise the power of media and taking part as a judge is a privilege so far as Angus is concerned. Since tough times test our inventiveness, this year should produce plenty of great entries. As the head of JWT Singapore, no longer a small outfit but now a substantial operation, Angus has the opportunity to work with almost every media agency in Singapore and he sees a key part of his role to be encouraging a spirit of collaboration and true partnership. Angus has served on the 4As Executive for three years and for the past year has been the Second Vice President. He has contributed as a judge, speaker or organiser to a variety of awards shows for creative, media and effectiveness.

responsible for starting up Tiger Beer UK Limited in 2005 and overseeing its development in the UK. He was in this role for two years. Bennett started off his career in Sales, where he worked in the various organizations of Esso, Exxon and subsequently ExxonMobil. He has been posted to numerous countries around the world including Hong Kong, China, the USA, Japan and Vietnam throughout his career. His last position held in ExxonMobil was Country Manager and General Manager of ExxonMobil Unique Company Limited based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In this role, he was responsible for the overall management and stewardship of ExxonMobil's Vietnam operations, including all business, service lines, manufacturing and supply & distribution. Educated in Singapore, Bennett holds a Mechanical & Production Engineering degree from Nanyang Technological University. He is also a canoeing enthusiast, who has represented Singapore in numerous canoe championships and was the coach of the National Canoeing Team in 1993.

Obtained her Bachelor in Business Administration from National University of Singapore, and Masters in Business Administration from University of Strathclyde. Spent 15 years with the Seagram Spirits and Wine Group, last appointment being Commercial Director of Martell Cognac, with turnover of USD$130 million and Marketing budget of USD$28 million, in the Asia Pacific region (13 countries). In 2002, Carol left her lucrative career in the private sector for family reasons. She joined the National Arts Council as its Deputy Chief Executive Officer in Sept that year. As an arts-lover and then mother of two very young children, she believed that more could be done to promote the arts in Singapore, especially to the young. In NAC, she helped to restructure the Council and begun talks on strengthening the Arts Education area. She also provided strategic inputs, cultural policy, and organization development and managed the day-to-day operations of the Council. Seconded to the parent Ministry of NAC since 2004, Carol now heads the National Marketing Division of the Ministry of Information Communications and the Arts (MICA). Its mission is to create affinity for Singapore and win friends and fans. The Division articulated and shared with key Ministries the positioning platform for marketing Singapore. It is the Secretariat to the National Marketing Action Committee, which looks at how the government can market Singapore in a more holistic manner. Carol also lead in Cultural Diplomacy efforts designed to display Singapores artistic, cultural and creative achievements overseas. Her Division also provides support to marketing mega events like APEC 2009 in the area of branding and providing an integrated look and feel to the entire event. National marketing also produces National Marketing collaterals and fact sheets for the use of the entire civil service. Carol has wide-ranging interests. She enjoys music, gardening, reading, designing jewelry, attending arts events and entertaining in her free time.

Chang Chee Pey Singapore Tourism Board Director
Mr Chang Chee Pey assumed his new appointment as Director, Brand Management on 2 January 2009. As Director, Brand Management, Chee Pey is responsible for Singapore Tourism Boards (STB) brand strategy and campaigns, and developing strong and positive brand perceptions worldwide. He will also ensure that the brands developed are applied consistently and effectively to all marketing and promotional initiatives conducted by the key stakeholders. Chee Pey brings with him a wealth of regional experience in the tourism industry, having held various roles within the STB throughout his 12 years with the Board. In his capacity as Regional Director, ASEAN (Mainland), Chee Pey was responsible for managing the operations of STBs four regional offices in Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Bangkok, as well as planning and executing the marketing and promotional activities within these markets. As Director International Marketing, a position which he held from April to December 2008, Chee Peys key responsibility was to integrate the industrys activities and products with the marketing efforts of the STBs 24 Regional Offices. From 2003 2006, Chee Pey served as Director of Sightseeing & Cruise. During his tenure with STBs Leisure Group, he was involved in key developmental projects such as the Singapore Flyer, the Orchard Road Mall Enhancement project and the S$10 million Singapore Fly-Cruise Development Fund. He also headed the STB Integrated Resort Working Team and managed the Request for Concept (RFC) process for the Integrated Resort project until the formation of the Integrated Resort Division in the STB in August 2005. Other leadership positions Chee Pey has served within the STB include Assistant Director for Business Travel, and Director for South Asia, during which he was based in STBs Regional Office in Mumbai. During his posting to India from 1999 2002, Chee Pey expanded STBs presence in India by establishing marketing representative offices in both New Delhi and Chennai, which have since been upgraded to full-fledged regional offices. He was also responsible for successfully formulating and implementing marketing and media strategies to increase Singapores share of the Indian and South Asian outbound travel market.

In 2007, Wee Kim Co-Chaired the Crowbar Student Awards, which recognizes some of the best works of students from around the region. He was invited to be a judge in CCA 2007 and ADFEST 2008. Wee Kim believes in grooming the next generation of creative people, he teaches in the IAS portfolio school. Thanks to his Earth Monkey Chinese zodiac sign, Wee Kim has had a bit of luck at the awards. He has had success at every major regional and international show. His haul includes Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at Cannes. It also included the Outdoor Grand Prix and Gold medals at the ADFEST. He has also won more than 50 Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the CCA. In all, his work has been awarded with over 130 medals and accolades at D&AD, The One Show, Communication Arts, AdFest, MEDIA Spikes, Clio, AWARD, World Press Awards and the New York Festival. Wee Kims proudest moment was having his Chingay Float design; Curry Spill produced in 1990.

Jack Lim assumes the role of Vice President, Advertising Sales and Marketing, with effect from 2 January 2008. Jack is charged with driving advertising and sponsorship revenue for SPE Networks Asias four ad-supported channel brands AXN, Asias leading action and adventure channel; AXN BEYOND, the spin-off channel from AXN specialized in sci-fi, fantasy, horror, suspense and paranormal types of programming; ANIMAX, Asias premier youth animation channel; and SONY ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION, a trendsetting channel catered for the urban career women. At the same time, Jack will also oversee the areas of research, marketing services, sales operations and new business development. Previously, Jack spent three years at IBM as Communications Director for ASEAN/South Asia. He led a team of over 40 Communications professionals in planning and executing IBMs global brand and regional communications campaigns across the region. Before IBM, Jack worked at GE from 1997 to 2004, with his last assignment being Market Development Director at GE Corporate. SPE Networks Asia is not Jacks first foray into the media industry. Starting his career with Dow Jones & Co., he served as the Advertising Manager for The Asian Wall Street Journal as well as Broadcast Sales Manager for Asia Business News. Thereafter, he assumed the role of Director of International Sales, Asia, in CNBC Asia Pacific. Jack was born in October 1969 in Singapore. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and earned an MBA in International Business in 2004. Jack is married with two daughters aged 8 & 6.

James has accumulated 16 years of experience in the consumer marketing profession. In the course of his career, he has worked for renowned MNCs like Sony, Starhub, adidas and Levis! In both Starhub and adidas, James has been managing and leading the marketing department. James has been instrumental in assisting Sony to reach the No. 1 market share position for the video and digital video camera category when he was the marketing person in charge. Under his leadership, adidas Singapore has been enjoying fast growth both in business value and brand image! In Jul last year, James was tasked to overlook adidas Malaysia as well, imparting the Malaysia marketing team with strategic inputs and marketing expertise. Joanna Wong, an advertising and public relations veteran for more than 20 years. Her vast marketing and communications experience spans from consumer lifestyle brands to hospitality and industrial B2B businesses locally and in the SE Asian region. She joined Eu Yan Sang International Ltd in 2000 as the first communications manager for the Group and played a key role to the changed image of this 130-year old traditional Chinese medicine brand. In her capacity now as Vice President of Brand Management and Corporate Communications, her main responsibilities are to direct the Groups external communication programmes including investors relations and public relations. She is responsible for the Groups corporate affairs/events, sponsorships and marketing events. She also directs brand management and communication programmes in new markets as the company expands globally. Jowena has more than 20years experience advertising and FMCG retail marketing. She started her marketing career in Smithkline Beecham in Brand management and subsequently in the next 14 years managing one of the worlds most famous brand, McDonalds Her vast experience in McDonalds includes driving key brand initiatives as well as building the brands key icons like Ronald McDonald and Happy Meals. As Head of Marketing, she also led the Singapore team in the launch of the highly successful Global Im lovin it Campaign in 2003. She received the much coveted global President Award at McDonalds in 1997. In February 2005, Jowena joined DBS as Head of Consumer Marketing, Singapore, responsible for developing marketing/advertising strategies to build the brand proposition and positioning for DBS, DBS Treasures and POSB franchises. In her capacity, she is accountable in helping the bank achieve brand share and market share of key products. She also oversees the banks Consumer Research. In May 2007, Jowena was appointed the additional role as Head of Internet Banking at DBS Bank. She is instrumental in building a relevant internet banking model that adds value and deepen customers relationship for the biggest online bank in Singapore.

Karen Low is responsible for Nokia Siemens Networks brand, marketing communications and marketing channels in Asia Pacific, including providing guidance and support for local offices across the region. Karen has more than 14 years of experience in the info-communications industry, specializing in marketing and corporate communications. She joined Nokia Networks in 1999, and in her various capacities, Karen has developed and executed creative brand and market-making activities across traditional and new media channels, including programmes which are global best practices, campaign management, advertising, emarketing and creative co-marketing with partners. She has over 15 years experience in marketing and branding, with her early years grounded in top-flight FMCG companies like Coca-Cola and Unilever. She subsequently moved on to become one of the pioneers of the standalone e-Bank, finatiq.com that was set up by OCBC. Melisa Teoh is the Asia Pacific Head of Brand for Aviva, an international savings, investments and insurance group. Melisa oversees brand, sponsorships, customer advocacy and consumer initiatives for the region which includes Australia, China, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Taiwan.

In 2005, together with Neil French, Jim Aitchison, and Linda Locke, he was named Champion Of The Creative Circle, a rare achievement award for his contribution to the advertising industry. In 2007, he was featured in IDEAS (a book on Singapores hottest creative directors) and was voted Singapores Creative Director of the Year. To date, his work has been awarded in every major international advertising competition, notably the One Show, D&AD, Clio, New York Festival, London International, Communication Arts and Cannes. He has also been invited to judge in many of them, most recently at the 2007 Cannes Advertising Festival. Despite his hectic schedule, Patrick still finds time to share his experiences with students from the AWARD School and the Institute of Advertising. He also sits on the advisory board of Temasek Polytechnic School of Design. When he isnt creating ads, Pat will most probably be chasing a football. After all, his claim to fame was playing against a British all-star team at the 1995 Singapore International Soccer Sevens, which included Bobby Charlton, Jeff Hurst and Kevin Keegan.

Sebastian entered the market as a fresh-eyed art student. Also a much sought after photographer and director today, Sebastian has been known to be a maverick possessing a unique and effective blend of creativity, fiery passion and foresight. Never giving up his dream of becoming an art director one day, he showed gritty persistence and imagination in his first stint as a photographers assistant. Even while he was constantly kept busy by the demands of his job, he honed the skills of the trade from the bottom up. Armed with only a 35mm camera, a couple of lenses and the proceeds from the sale of his car, The Shooting Gallery was born in 1987 out of his necessity to survive. To date, Shooting Gallery Asia is a collective of 15 companies with offices and studios in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, New Zealand, The Maldives and growing. The latest being Artison, a production design business to support and add value to the film-making industry. Theres also an office in Paris to market the group and support work from Europe. Besides being the President of the Professional Photographers Association (Singapore), Sebastian also sits on the advisory panel of Temasek Polytechnics School of Design and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts curriculum advisory committee. He is a member of the Singapore Workforce Development Agencys Media & Communications Manpower Skills & Training Council. With a sprawling 21,000 sq feet headquarters at Brilliant Building, Sebastian has much to be proud of his achievement. But he still remains the same simple and humble visionary, with no airs at all, persuading clients not just with the depth of his views but also the expertise of his direction.

Raju began his career on the catwalks of Bangalore. Though he was one of the countrys up-and-coming fashion models, he was so enamored by Advertising that he traded in the glamour and applause for long hours and a tiny desk in the corner of DDB Chennai as a Management Trainee. Raju moved on to J. Walter Thompson after three years. At JWT, he rose up the ranks and was made responsible for new business as well as managing current clients. In order to obtain a holistic understanding of the communication business, Raju moved to Rapp Collins Indonesia and ran the agencys CRM and Direct Marketing functions. He joined Grey in 2001 and over five years, grew the agency by 150%, slotting it into the Top 5. In 2005, Raju was handpicked to take over the helm of Grey Singapore. In less than a year, the agency has grown significantly and is one of the most talked-about agencies in town. Rajus life revolves around work and family. He still appreciates a good, well-cut suit.

Mr. Suresh Narayanan began his career as a Management Trainee with Hindustan Unilever (Subsidiary of Unilever Plc) over two decades ago. He held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in Sales, Marketing, General Management and rose to the position of General Sales Manager for the Beverages Division (Tea & Coffee) at Hindustan Unilever Limited. During his career with Unilever, he was responsible for integrating two large mergers of Lipton and Brooke Bond in the largest Sales Region in India . His tenure as the General Sales Manager saw the highest ever sales volume and growth in the Tea Business that Hindustan Unilever has achieved. Thereafter, he had a short stint at Colgate Palmolive before joining Nestle. Mr. Suresh Narayanan has also been on the selection panel both at Hindustan Unilever Limited and Nestle for recruitment of Management Trainees from leading Indian Business Schools. In Thailand, he was on the Board of Governors of the Thai Management Association and the Chairman of ECR, Thailand. Mr. Suresh Narayanan holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and a Diploma from IMD, Lausanne for a program on Executive Development. In addition, he has attended the Nestle Leadership Program at the London Business School. Suresh is married to Rajitha, who is a Special Educator, tending to the needs of children with learning and physical disabilities. They have a daughter Avanti who is in Middle School. Suresh is fond of reading, plays a little golf and likes to participate in teaching and communications sessions.

She has also led the company to achieve higher LEGO brand awareness and relevance to the consumers which includes kids, parents, gift-givers and adult fans. As a working mother of three kids, she tries to spend both quantity, as well as quality time, with them. She enjoys family vacations especially if the locations are chosen by her kids, and loves cooking and reading.

He has also spearheaded major campaigns for titles like The Straits Times, The Business Times, The New Paper & Lianhe Zaobao. As an industry initiative, he helped start the SPH Ink Awards, which recognises and rewards excellence in local print advertising.
