ASSERTIVE MODEL Focus: Assertiveness and insistence.

Characteristic: 1. Tr are consistent in the treatment of discipline. 2. Pay attention to Ss that behave well. (reinforcement) 3. Misbehaves warning - 1st detention - 2nd detention - referred to deputy head. Key ideas: Tr insist on decent behaviour from Ss. Firm control is humane and liberating.

Basic response styles: 1. Assertive. 2. Non assertive. 3. Hostile. Strengths: Overall ease of implementation. Insistence on meeting. Emphases on caring sufficiently without Ss limit their self-defeating behaviour. Insistence on going support from administration & parents. Use of ideas/techniques rather than punishments.

Weakness: Too harsh. Too aggressive. Overpowering for younger children. Demeaning to older children.

Skinner
BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION MODEL Characteristic: 1. Human behaviour shaped by application of reinforcement. 2. Reinforcement good behaviour repeats good behaviour. 3. Punishment weaken the behaviour extinction. 4. Types: Strengths Ss behavior can be shaped naturally Ss have good perception to Tr. Promotes extrinsic motivation. Result of behavior can be seemed immediately. Undesired behavior will be weakened. Teaching will be easier & enjoyable. Effective in preventing & supportive control. Social verbal, non-verbal- eg. Smile, Shake hand. Graphic eg. Smiley stickers. Activity eg. Sing song together. Tangible eg. Give real object. (crayon, popcorn) Token.

Weaknesses Reduce intrinsic motivation. Reward may not be effective to certain Ss. Reinforcement need to be given continuously. Tr control Ss thoughts and action. Difficult in understanding human behavior.

LOGICAL CONSEQUENCES MODEL Concept: Central human motivation is to belong and accepted by others. Opposite to Skinner (no reinforcement in given) but use encouragement (logical + consequences). Misbehaviour Seeking attention Gaining power Taking revenge Displaying inadequate Mistaken goals (occur bcoz no social approve)

Behaviour + misbehaviour are biased interpretations which can result misjudgement.

Strength: Encouragement gives positive feedback. Sense of fairness. Promote respect to teacher and students.

Weaknesses: Cannot handle all behaviour. Teachers can mistaken a good with another good.

CONTROL THEORY (REALITY THERAPY CHOICE)

Concept: Provide classroom environment. Motivate student/reduce inappropriate behaviour. Help students make appropriate behaviour.

Key ideas: Students can control their own behaviour. Behaviour is matter of choice (good and bad). Teacher must always help students make good choices. Teacher accepts no excuses. Every behaviour must have reasonable consequences. Rules are essential must be enforced (classroom). Classroom meeting are needed

Strength: Students have choices. Establish rules that lead to success. Suggest suitable alternatives. Continuous observation. Call for value judgement.
