Course: B.A. / B.A. Honours (Psychology) Duration of the Course: 3 Years

Profile:
Psychology is a branch of science that deals with mental processes and behaviour. It is the systematic study of human and animal behaviour, mind and thought. To pursue the career of a psychologist, one should have a genuine desire to help other human beings. The course is not only based on book knowledge, but practical knowledge is also imparted. The students are to the necessary places for training. How to get emotionally attached with people of different age groups under different circumstances and try to solve their problems, this art is taught specifically. In addition, students are also taught Criminal Psychology, Social Groups, and Neuro law. Psychology is mainly concerned with the way the mind works. Psychologists study the processes, motives, reactions, feelings and nature of the human mind. Their treatment is based on changing the behavioural patterns of the patients without medication. They do counselling and help people by bringing about changes in their thought process, thus improving their quality of life. They teach, practice and do research or work in one of the many branches of applied psychology. They apply their knowledge and techniques to a wide range of endeavours, including human services, management, education, law and sports. Study of psychology includes a diverse range of activities such as the processes of thinking, learning and perceiving, remembering, forgetting, physiology of the nervous system, development of children, social relationships and their effect on personality development, mental disorders, applications of psychology to the study of society, industry, education etc., techniques of experimenting and testing, and statistics. There is a wide variety of topics in the professional study of psychology and some overlapping occurs between the different specialized branches. Good at science, math, critical reading and writing.

Benefits/Scope:

B.A (Psychology) degree serves as a basis for further higher studies in this field such as M.A, Ph.D. and M.Phil. degree in Psychology, the successful completion of which makes one eligible for the post of a lecturer in any university/college. The greatest scope after doing B.A in Psychology is that it not only makes you eligible but also gives you a fairly better chance to qualify the Indian Civil Services Exams. Law schools are a very common destination now-a-days for recent graduates in Psychology.

Eligibility:
Anyone with a background of any stream (Science, Commerce or Arts) in Class 12th, from a recognized Board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks [45% for the reserved candidates], is eligible for the course.

Course fees:
The entire 3 years course usually involves expenses in the range of Rs. 17,000 to Rs. 20,000 (approx).

Funding/Scholarships:
Not many colleges or institutes offer financial help for the students. They can also opt to take a bank loan or apply for various scholarships that are offered from time to time.

SalarySalary depends on experience and work area. Initially, 8000 to 10000 rupees (approx.) per month can be earned.
