COMPETENCIES CHOSEN Interpersonal: Treats others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect; considers and responds approximately to the

needs and feelings of different people in different situations. Rationale: HR in an Organization has day to day dealings with the number of people. He acts as a communicator between the top management and the employees. All the roles of his involves dealing people with courtesy and respect and being empathetic. Only if he has necessary interpersonal skills, he will be able to gain the trust of the employees. Strategic Capability: Ability to see clearly and put together a compelling strategic plan for the organization, based on thorough analysis of competitive position, needs of customers and other stakeholders, industry trends and benchmark information Rationale: With time, role of HR in Organization is continuously changing. Today HR is playing strategic role in Organizations unlike the traditional transactional role and his decisions and policies have an impact at the strategic level. Thus this competency is a must for HR to be able to view long term. Human Capital Management: Integrating the tools and processes associated with people and performance, the Human Capital Management approach aligns the goals of employees and the goals of the company to meet specific, measurable, and realistic business objectives. Rationale: Many of the Organizations take HR for granted and they feel that anyone can fill his shoes. Even big giants like Infosys have seen tough times after they have filled a CFO in the place of HR. This proves that it is very much essential for a person to have a thorough knowledge about the HR practices and processes to be in the place of HR. Decisiveness: Makes well-informed, effective, and timely decisions, even when data are limited or solutions produce unpleasant consequences; perceives the impact and implications of decisions. Rationale: As already covered in competency 2, the decisions of HR in the modern times have impact at the strategic level. Given this fact, the person chosen should be able to clearly weigh all the possibilities and chose the best alternative that serves good for the company. When provided with a number of alternatives with constraints, pros and cons he should be effectively able to make decisions and should stand by them. Hence this competency is chosen. Activity 2 - Building an Ideal Town


In this activity, a group of 2-3 people is formed and they will be asked to build an ideal Town. The allotted time is 30-45 min. This activity tries to test the strategic Thinking of a person along with his analytical ability and Interpersonal Skills. Evaluation of Strategic Capability: The person is evaluated based on his ability to think all the basic needs for existence in a town, his abilities to go beyond the day to day necessities and his abilities to think from a future perspective and his ability to actually put all his thoughts onto the given cardboard strategically. Level 1: This level tests whether the person is able to identify the basic or the minimum necessities in the day to day life. It tests the abilities of the person to think about the day to day requirements and put them properly in the stipulated time. This level includes the following list of items. 1. Facility for Drinking water 2. Sanitation facility 3. Clinical Facilities 4. Vegetable and Fruit Market 5. People 6. School 7. Park 8. Residential Area (Houses) 9. Sewage / Drainage facility Level 2: This level tests whether the person is able to put down those items that are not very occasionally visited but those that are very much necessary and form a part of basic requirements that are to be provided in a town. For Eg: Items like dispensary / bank are rarely visited but those are very much essential for the people who stay in a town. Ability to gather these indicate that the person is able to recollect the short term requirements. This level includes the following list of items 1. Lake / Pond 2. Play ground 3. Theatre

4. Stationary 5. Vehicles 6. Grocery shops 7. Dispensary 8. Post Office 9. Bank Facility Level 3: This level includes those items without which existence living is possible but whose existence enhances sustainability (like education and work at industries etc. ) Also it contains those items which a specific class of people feel very much essential. For eg: Gym or a club house or a sports ground serves only a section of people. This list can be brought up by those people who are a little future oriented and think out of their purview. This level includes the following list of items 1. Agricultural land and Industries 2. Educational Institutions 3. Library 4. Gym 5. Club House 6. Multi Speciality Hospital 7. Shopping centre 8. Trees to avoid pollution 9. Sports ground Level 4: This level contains only those items that are required from a future perspective and for a better living in the future. Non availability of these in the current scenario though doesnt cause any problem; their availability creates a possibility for a problem less future. People who are more future oriented and who can think out of the box, who can imagine things that are not existent and who can predict the future problems and try to get solutions for the future can identify items in this list. This level includes the following list of items. 1. Reservoir for water storage 2. Rain water harvesting sloping roofs, open wells, percolation tanks, recharge pits. 3. Production of bio gas from waste age of kitchen

4. Solar panels 5. Using wind power to generate electricity ( wind vanes) 6. Adequate number of trees to avoid pollution and to protect climate 7. Road planning ( connecting each of the above placed items properly through roads) 8. Old Age home. 9. Bio fuels for transportation Scoring Pattern 1. For each item identified in the list in level 1, the person gets 1 point, level 2 gets 2 points, level 3 gets 3 points and level 4 gets 4 points. 2.
