Abstract
Career Planning essentially means helping the employees to plan their career in terms of their capacities within the context of organizational needs. It is described as devising an organizational system of career management growth opportunities from the point of entry of an individual in employment to the point of his or her retirement.

It is generally understood to be a management technique for mapping out the entire development of career of young employees in higher skilled, supervisory, and managerial positions. It is also described as a process-of synthesizing and harmonizing the needs of the organization with the aspirations of the employee so that while the latter realize selffulfilment, the formers effectiveness is improved.

Career Planning encourages individuals to explore and gather information that enables them to synthesize, gain competencies, make decisions, set goals and take action. Each individual varies in their progress through each of these stages for many reasons. Some advance rapidly through each or all of the stages while others progress more slowly. Career planning is an on-going process and individuals may repeat all or parts of the career development process at various points throughout their lives as values, interests, abilities, and life circumstances change Career planning is the process by which individuals collect information about values, interests, and skill strengths and weaknesses (career exploration), identify a career goal, and engage in career strategies that increase the probability that career goals will be achieved. The career management process involves career exploration, development of career goals, and use of career strategies to obtain career goals. The relationship between different aspects of the career management process and employee development behaviour and performance was examined in this study. Employees provided information concerning their personal characteristics, career management strategies, their manager's support for career development, and willingness to participate in development activities.
