Students are allowed up to maximum of two unexcused absences. However they are subject to warning: First warning: 3 abs Final Warning: 3 abs Subject to AW: 4 abs Guidelines and Policies Philosophy: While informal lectures and presentations are necessary to insure common ground for discussion, this course will succeed based on your willingness to explore and share your own experiences and the course materials in thoughtful and meaningful ways. CAUTION: This isnt a talk show; its a classroom. In other words, your contributions to class discussions should be based on a reflective consideration of your own ideas and/or a critical analysis of discussion materials, not on the first things that pops into your head. Responsibility: Students are responsible for all material including class and guest lectures. Other materials may include examples used in class such as videotapes, print ads, audiotapes, assignments, and handouts. Questions from the class material and assigned readings will be tested on all exams. It is the students responsibility to obtain materials presented in class, not the instructors. Do not ask the instructor to provide handouts or notes from a past class! Obtain these materials from fellow classmates. If you miss an exam without an excused absence, you will receive a grade of zero for that exam. Expectations: students are expected to meet the standards of conduct as outlined in the Student Handbook. If you miss an exam without contacting me, you will receive a 0 for that exam grade. For an excused absence (approved by me prior to the exam date), I may substitute an essay or research paper rather than give a make-up exam. Academic Integrity: Students typically encounter a number of ethical dilemmas throughout their academic experience. Part of your responsibility as students is to act honestly when faced with such situations. Acts of academic dishonesty include but are not necessarily limited to: cheating on exams; plagiarism (using someone elses work and passing it off as ones own without properly identifying the source); presenting work previously presented in another course without consulting the instructor; purchasing exams or term papers; and submitting an exam or any other work that was completed by another person. A first instance of plagiarism will result in a 0 for the assignment. Repeated incidents will result in an F for the course and possible administrative intervention.

Technology: This is not a web class, but new-media technologies are an integral part of learning in this class. I expect students to have basic word-processing, e-mail, and web browsing skills. You must have an e-mail address that you access regularly. Assistance: If you require additional or alternate assistance, please inform me as soon as possible so we can make arrangements to aid you learning. Papers: Any written assignment must be typed and doubled-spaced, with proper margins. Do not submit first drafts of papers: edit your work for spelling, punctuation, grammar, and paragraph and sentence structure. Papers will be graded for form and content: the way you communicate affects what you communicate. For late papers, I will drop a grade per day after the due date. Deadlines: Professional students must meet deadlines if they are to succeed. The deadlines published in this syllabus are firm. Late assignments will not be accepted, and make-up examinations will not be given. Missed presentations will not be made up. Evaluation: You must complete ALL assignments to pass the course. Final Exemption: Prior to the final exam period, any student who had attended the class regularly and had scored the highest grades on exam one, midterm, quizzes, and projects, he/she would be automatically exempted of taken the final exam of this course and he would receive an A as a final grade on the course. Best of Luck to all of you!
