PTCRB Certification Process


CTIA handles the certification process for PTCRB: 1) Schedule testing
Notify the lab of your desired test schedule as soon as possible. Give the lab at least 2-3 weeks lead time if possible.

2) Submit Certification Request


Submit a formal certification request through the PTCRB website (www.ptcrb.com) Select CETECOM in Milpitas, CA (listed as CETECOM Inc.) CTIA will invoice $3,125, which needs to be paid prior to final approval

PTCRB Certification Process


3) Testing is Performed
Applicable PTCRB Testing is performed and must be completed before the approval stage

4) Report Upload
CETECOM Inc. will upload all report documentation to the PTCRB database.

5) PTCRB approval
Once fees are paid to CTIA and the test reports are reviewed the device is approved for PTCRB**.
**Please note that all FCC or IC approvals/certification must be completed prior to PTCRB certification.

PTCRB Certification Requirements


PTCRB Certification is required for all products entering the North American markets through a GSM Carrier.

Integration of a PTCRB certified module into a device requires:


Reduced set of GSM conformance testing RSE (Radiated Spurious Emission) FCC Certification OTA (Over-the-Air)

PTCRB Testing Requirements


NAPRD.03 Section 13.2.3.x: IMEI SV Number Check
Protocol test to confirm that the software version on the module used in device is the same as the certified version.

SIM Electrical (Section 13.2.3.3)


Required for all off-board SIM holders.

Emergency Call Testing (Section 13.2.3.1)


Emergency call testing may be required for devices with an audio interface.

MMI (Man Machine Interface) Testing (Section 13.2.3.5)


All applicable test cases where the integrator provides an MMI:
SS (Supplementary Services), SATK (SIM Application Toolkit), SMS (Short Message Service, MMS (Multimedia Message Service), IMPS (Instant Message and Presence Service), VT (Video Telephony), PoC (Push to Talk Over Cellular, Java

PTCRB Testing Requirements


RSE (Radiated Spurious Emissions) (Section 13.2.3.4)
RSE testing according to GSM specification (51.010-1) is to be performed on all devices integrating a certified module testing is performed on ALL supported GSM bands:
GSM 850/900/1800/1900

FCC/EU Testing
The following FCC testing may be required for your device:
FCC Part 22 (850 Mhz Band) FCC Part 24 (1900 Mhz Band) FCC Part 15.247 (For Integrated Bluetooth modules and/or WLAN modules) FCC Approval and Listing (Through TCB/FCC) IC Approval and Listing (Through TCB)

The following EU testing may be required for your device:


EN 301 511 EN 301 489-7 for GSM Europe EN 301 489-24 for UMTS Europe EN 301 908-1 for RSE UMTS in Europe EN 301 489-17 and EN 300 328 for Europe (For Integrated Bluetooth modules and/or WLAN modules) NBEO (Notified Body Review for CE)

**The product is exempt from FCC Certification if the module manufacture allows use of the modules FCC ID.

Measurement

TIS (Total Isotropic Sensitivity)


Measurement of the devices receiver performance 3D Pattern shows maximum & minimum points of receiver performance Intermediate channels have to be tested and to pass the limits

OTA Testing is Tested per Band (850/1900)

SAR Testing is required for all devices that has an antenna that operates within 20cm of the human body (ie. Handsets, Tablet PCs, etc)
