Principals Post . . .
Parents, We take this opportunity to thank you for your overwhelming support. Last Friday we had more than 300 visitors in attendance for our first Tag of Honor Ceremony. We are very proud of our Fox Cubs for their accomplishments. We ask for your continued help in discussing goal setting with your child and easy practical ways on how they can accomplish their goals. Finally, the feedback that we received as a result of this event was extremely positive. We will determine how to use the feedback in order to make this program even better. Again, thanks for all that you do! Julius Scott, Principal

Magnet School Survey for Students, Parents, Teachers/Staff

School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties needs the opinions of students, parents, and staff/teachers to develop a district-wide magnet school plan to expand choice options across the district. Magnet Schools are public schools of choice that serve children at all grade levels and offer a distinctive curriculum that focuses on a single theme. Themes can vary widely, from performing arts to engineering. The district has developed three brief surveys (takes no longer than 15 minutes) to gauge interest from the community and to determine where the magnet schools will be located and what themes will be offered. Responses also will be used to develop a proposal for grant funding to support our magnet initiative. The links to each survey are:

When

November CogAT Testing for 2nd and 4th Graders

On Wednesday, November 7, Thursday, November 8, and Friday, November 9, second graders throughout the state as well as fourth graders in District Five will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). CogAT is a nationally norm-referenced test that helps teachers gather information about how students learn. It is also used as one of several measures for placement in the academically gifted program. Please make note of these dates on your calendar. Students who miss any of the testing sessions will be scheduled for make-up testing. Help your child have a positive testing experience by being sure that he or she is present and on time, has had a good nights sleep, and a healthy breakfast.

Nurses Notes . . .
Its that time of year again! FLU SEASON! We want everyone to stay well this year so here are some helpful hints to keep you and your family healthy! Stay away from people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too. Stay home from work, school and errands if you are sick. You will help prevent others from getting sick! Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a tissue, if one is handy. Throw it away immediately after use, otherwise, use your upper sleeve. Wash your hands often and thoroughly. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is covered with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth. Other good habits such as getting plenty of sleep, engaging in physical activity, managing stress, drinking water and eating good food will help you stay healthy in the winter and all year. Please take a moment to read the newly revised School Wellness Policies and Approved Snacks on our website at www.lexrich5.org/DutchFork.cfm?subpage=78789. This can be found in the For Parents section under School Health Services. Nurse Linda Miller, RN, School Nurse
