Unit 5 Vocabulary Paragraph

Finally, after several weeks of traveling through these colorless woods, they made it to the Temple of Light. Inside was the source of all colored light, the Sphere of Color, but the only problem is it is guarded by a large serpent. Several people have gone in over the past 12 colorless years, due to all visible light disappearing for no apparent reason, and none have returned. Lukas looked at the large stone doors that looked unmovable. Rex, push the door. The large behemoth of a man walked past the young woman and gave the doors a forceful shove and kept pushing until the door opened enough for all three of them to squeeze through. We need to put our polarizer lenses on before we step inside. Said the young woman as she reached inside her satchel and retrieved the lenses. Why? asked Rex. It cuts out some of the light. If we step inside without these on we may go blind. Weve been living in a colorless world for 12 years. Said Lukas. After putting on the lenses they stepped inside. There was a large lens and three orbs that slightly glowed in cyan, magenta, and yellow. They took a few more steps hoping to see a door but there wasnt a door anywhere. The young woman stepped behind the lens and looked up. If I remember right there should be a door somewhere above us. Thats what it said in my grandmothers book about this place. There! Right above the way we came in is the door. We need to find some way to get the beams from these three orbs to meet in one spot after being refracted once they go through the lens. Once that happens, an image should appear. She said as she bent down and picked up the magenta orb. Lukas picked up the cyan orb and Rex picked up the yellow. Where do we need them to meet, Aria? asked Lukas. She pointed to the silver circle high up on the wall. She pressed her palms tightly on the orb and a ray of magenta light shot from the front and into the lens. She moved around until her ray finally hit the circle. The others did the same. Why are we doing this? asked Rex. These colors are called the subtractive primary colors. When they focus on that circle, it will turn black and the door should open for us. Said Aria. Rex finally got his to meet the others and the circle turned black. Nothing happened for a few seconds until a white sun appeared in the middle of the circle. Then the room began to shake as stairs rose from the ground and the wall above opened. This new room was pitch black. Aria walked around with her hands feeling the wall until she found them. She turned one of the rods on and the entire length of the rod began to glow. She handed one to Lukas and as she turned to Rex he said Im not touching that. Why? Its hot. Its fluorescent. Not incandescent. Its glowing because of the atoms inside get energized because of a spark. Not because something inside being heated. Its fine. Rex took the rod and smiled when he felt that it was still cool. They began walking forward when they heard it. The hissing of something large that was moving closer and closer to them. Break the rods. Said Aria as she and Lukas threw their rods against the ground breaking them

while Rex stood frozen in fear. Aria grabbed the rod and broke it for him. Then they saw a faint glow slowly move around the room. Watch out. Thats the tail. The serpent is photo luminescent. The Light god bestowed that ability upon it so that it could lure its enemies to their death. We have to keep moving separately or we are all going to die. Said Aria as she began to run around the room. She could feel the ground vibrate as the serpent moved around the room after her. Rex felt on the ground for a large rock, after his fear had subsided, and blindly hurled the boulder through the air. There was a large hiss as the boulder made contact with the snakes skin. The serpent turned around and its entire body began to glow. Lukas unsheathed his sword and ran towards the snake as the lunged forward and bit Rex. Lukas jumped and plunged the sword deep into the serpents head as Aria ran over to check on Rex. Lukas walked over to his two friends and watched as Aria held Rexs lifeless body close to her and wept. Lukas knelt down and took off Rexs necklace and placed it inside Arias satchel to give to his family. Go get the Sphere of Color. You have to smash it to restore the color. Said Aria through her tears. Lukas walked over, picked up the sphere, and threw it against the wall. There was a slight ring as it shattered into millions of tiny pieces. Lukas watched as the shards and the serpent glowed brighter than ever and then just vanished into thin air. Lukas and Aria walked out of the Temple and looked out over the land. They had forgotten how beautiful the colors of their land were but neither one smiled as they took their first bittersweet steps into this new colorful land they had forgotten.
