Match Report V Maidstone Town Ladies Sunday 11th November 2012 Womens FA Cup 3rd Round Qualifying Maidstone

Town Ladies 1-3 UPCWFC The University were playing their first match in this years Womens FA Cup. Maidstone Town were confident following their previous 9-0 victory in the previous round. Yet again University started slowly, Fowler making two fine saves in the first 5 minutes. However they soon got in to their stride and after 9 minutes gained a corner from a determined run by Dimery. Paul, taking the corner from the right saw her deftly lofted cross missed by everyone; that is except for the diligent and determined Kingly-Smith; who ghosted in to the six yard box and slotted the ball home 1-0. The University were now well on top and in the 16 minute gained another corner, this time from the left. Lewis crossing the ball in to the Prime Target Area (PTA), saw Dimery make a decoy run to the front post taking two defenders with her. Leaving the solid Kingsley-Smith to head home for 2-0. The game was fairly even until the 35 minute when a firm ground challenge saw Kingley-Smith and their No 15 collide heads. The game was held up for 10 minutes as the opposition player received treatment for a badly cut head that saw her substituted. Bravely Kingley-Smith gathered her senses and following minor treatment continued to lead her team. The break favoured Maidstone and from the restart gained territorial advantage. In the 5th minute of time added they score a deserved goal that took them in to the break at 2-1 down. The second period saw the University more composed, both in defence and attack, they controlled the game right from the start making numerous attacks but not able to penetrate and score that decisive goal! The 65th minute saw Stubbs, who had been put through by Hoban, 1 on 1 with the GK. The GK partially cleared the ball, which was quickly picked up by Paul. Paul crossed the ball but was charged down and gathered by Stubbs in the penalty area, a rash challenge saw Stubbs stumbling to the ground to gain a penalty. Cambridge coolly stepped up and beat the GK with power and a well-timed shot to the bottom right corner. The game continued to be controlled by University, with many breakthroughs towards the Maidstone Goal, but alas the score line remained 3-1, to send the University for their first time in to the First Round Proper.
