Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:1-4 Matthew 23:5-12, Luke 9:46-48, Luke 22:24-27 Observations about greatness:

IT IS NATURAL TO DESIRE TO BE GREAT. THERE IS VERY LITTLE SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING ABOUT GREATNESS. JESUS TEACHES US THAT GREATNESS IS ABOUT SERVANTHOOD. JESUS MODELS GREATNESS.

Characteristics of a true servant (John 13:1-17): 1. A TRUE SERVANT PUTS OTHERS ABOVE HIS/HER OWN AGENDA. 2. A TRUE SERVANT SERVES OUT OF A HEART FULL OF LOVE. 3. A TRUE SERVANT POSSESSES A HEALTHY SELF IDENTITY. 4. A TRUE SERVANT INITIATES THE SERVING OF OTHERS. 5. A TRUE SERVANT IS NOT POSITION CONSCIOUS. 6. A TRUE SERVANT SERVES THOSE WHO MISTREAT HIM/HER. For He knew who was going to betray Him, and that was why He said not every one was clean. When He had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. John 13:11, 12 7. A TRUE SERVANT FOLLOWS THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS. You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one anothers feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 8. A TRUE SERVANT IS BLESSED BY GOD. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:17 I was hungry and you started a humanitarian club and debated if you could afford to feed me. I was in prison and you snuck away quietly to your church to pray for my release. I was naked and in your heart you decided my appearance was shameful and immoral. I was sick and prayed to thank God for your good health. I was homeless and cold, so you told me about the spiritual home that God would give me when I die. I was lonely and you went somewhere to pray for me. You appear to be walking so closely with God; but I am still here very hungry, alone and cold. Application: STOP LORDING AND START LISTENING. Be shepherds of Gods flock that is under your care, serving as overseersnot because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. 1 Peter 5:2-4 Characteristics of Lording: About Position - Commands - Manipulates = Concerned about personal interests. Characteristics of a Leader: About Principals - Considers - Motivates = Concerned about others interests.

STOP ROLE PLAYING AND START RISKING.

It's not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better.
