Students will need the following: 1 small ball of SOLID, LIGHT-COLORED, SMOOTH-FINISH yarn in sock, DK or sport weight. NO lace weight or worsted weight. Wool or wool blend preferred. NO acrylic please. Knitting needles, ranging from US Size 1 - 3 (all needed until student ascertains correct gauge for projects), minimum 6 long double points (4 needles) will work for all projects. If student prefers to work on straight or circular needles for some samples, thats fine, but they will need double points for some class samples. 1 crochet hook, medium size, ranging in size from Size E/4(3.5mm) - G/6 (4.25mm) will be fine. Two colors of Size 6 glass seed beads, approximately 10 grams of each color (110-120 beads per color). Japanese beads are preferred, e.g. Miyuki, Matsuno or Toho. If unable to get Japanese beads, Czech beads will work but student may have to sift through beads to discard misshapen beads or those with holes that are too small for stringing.

Several wooden bead balls (at least 6), ideally one of two sizes: either or 1 radius (across). Once youve mastered the technique, you can try it on smaller wooden beads or beads of almost any shape or size. Either a commercial beading needle (2 long Big Eye needle or medium weight Twisted Wire needle) or a plastic dental floss threader for stringing beads on yarn. Medium size tapestry needle (dull point), suggested sizes include 14, 16 or 18, for finishing A small piece (approx 10 x 12) of either blanket fleece, felt or other material with a nap, to serve as a bead mat, i.e. a place on which to spill out their beads and not have them roll onto the floor. Basic knitting supplies e.g., sharp scissors, flexible tape measure, stitch markers, etc. Pencil and paper for note taking, graph paper (see page 3)

Some have been formally discontinued by the manufacturer, but are often available in local shops or Internet auction sites. Those marked with an (M) contain some metallic threads.
