Monday Reading Lesson 10/22

Materials:
Character Map Markers 6 Igraine the Brave books Anticipation Guides

Teacher Actions:
Focus: Predicting Begin by having students fill out the anticipation guide After everyone is finished, discuss each statement individually and why they picked Agree or Disagree Tell students that these themes are in the fantasy book we are going to read Igraine the Brave. Discuss the elements of fantasy. Read the back cover Discuss some prediction on what might happen in the book based on the information we now know (predicting) Introduce the character map Begin reading aloud as a group, stopping at each page to discuss and adding on to the character map on the wall Finish the chapter on their own for tomorrow. Come with written piece of paper on any new characters and information about those characters

Tuesday Reading Lesson 10/23


Materials:
Character Map Markers

Teacher Actions:
Focus: Monitoring for comprehension strategy Review characters we learned about yesterday. Add on characters that we learned about on our own. What do we know about them? Review what has happened in the story so far and where it is taking place. (Retelling) Begin reading the second chapter aloud as a group Finish the chapter on their own for tomorrow. Come with 3 new characteristics about Igraine that we learned in the chapter.

Wednesday Reading Lesson 10/24


Materials:
Character Map Markers

Focus: Expanding Vocabulary Discuss the characteristics they found in chapter 2. Add to character map. Discuss what is going on in the story so far. (monitoring comprehension) Reading for chapter 3 tomorrow. Come with two unknown words from the reading. Predicting the meaning and then look up the definition and use in a sentence.

Thursday Reading Lesson 10/25


Materials:
Character Map Markers

Teacher Actions:
Focus: Monitoring for comprehension strategy Discuss and share the words they found that were unknown. (expanding vocabulary) Discuss strategies on how to find meaning of words that are unknown Discuss what is going on in the story so far. (monitoring comprehension) Read chapter 4 on their own for tomorrow. Come with 3 tweets: One for Igraine, Albert, and Osmund. Tweet as if you were the character in the book.

Friday Reading Lesson 10/26


Materials:
Character Map Markers

Teacher Actions:
Focus: Monitoring for comprehension strategy & Asking Questions Discuss what is going on in the story so far. (monitoring comprehension) Share their tweets of each character. Read chapter 5 on their own for Monday. Come on Monday with 3 questions about the chapter. Discuss good and bad questions. Looking for higher level thinking questions.
