Credit Learning Outcomes

3 At the end of the course, the students are able to: 1. utilise various listening skills, 2. demonstrate effective oral communication skills, 3. use appropriate reading skills in reading academic texts critically, 4. apply writing skills in essay writing and in interpreting information from non-linear sources. Comprehension and analytical skills, Communication skills, Summarizing skills. This course is the initial course in improving students English Language proficiency for academic purposes and especially in preparing students for the Malaysian University English Test (MUET). Students will be taught the four language skills, namely reading, listening, speaking and writing. They will be exposed to a variety of reading texts including non-linear ones. They will also listen to a variety of texts to help them develop various listening skills. Students will also be given ample speaking practice to develop their communication and interaction skills. The course will also develop students writing in interpreting information from nonlinear sources and in essay writing. Coursework : 50% Final Written Examination : 50% Criteria of summative assessment : 80% attendance / Final Examination
