Articulation
How many of you are already using any articulation app on your device?
The process...
1. Evaluate articulation skills 2. If in school determine eligibility for services 3. Determine patterns of speech errors 4. Select Goals for therapy 5. Initiate treatment 6. Measure Progress
Assessment
Standardized assessment provides a limited picture of a childs phonetic and phonemic inventory. (Elbert & Gierut, 1986)
The Sunny Articulation Phonology Test (SAT) is an individually administered clinical tool for screening, identification, diagnosis and follow-up evaluation of articulation skills in English speaking individuals.
Phonetic placement has been shown to be effective for teaching a child how to say a new sound.
(Powel, Elbert, Miccio, Strike-Roussos, & Brasseur, 1998).
Features:
1. Front & Side 3D animations 2. All English phonemes: a. Vowels b. Consonants
3. Step by step guidance on all phonemes
4. Visual feedback
What does this mean? Choose apps with some sort of voice recorder.
1. Trying to build awareness of errors? Let them push the button. 2. Review words after the session 3. Print words for home work 4. E-mail results : Keep a back up of your data
Apps do not replace you. Do not use the iDevices as a television ;-) Still plan your therapy- the apps are just the activity.
