Program Fee Structure:

2.0 Admission
A student fulfilling the requirements described in section 1.0 may seat for the admission test. After successful satisfaction of the admission requirements as set forth by the department of Computer Science and Engineering, Jahangirnagar University may be admitted to the EMCS program in Computer Science and Engineering.

3.0 Courses of Study

3.1 Course Designation and Numbering System
A course will be represented by course number, course title, credit hours and contact hours per week. Each course number is designated by a three letter word identifying the department which offers it, followed by a three-digit number with the following criteria: (a) The first digit will correspond to the year/level in which the course is normally taken by the students. (b) The final two digits will be used for the departmental use to identify the serial number of the course. The following example illustrates a course representation: Course Number EMCS 601P EMCS 651 Course Title Structured Programming Language Computer Architecture Credit Hours 3.0 3.0 Contact Hours per Week 3.0 3.0

Here, EMCS represents that the executive course is offered by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. First 6 in the course CSE 601 represents that the course is normally taken by graduate students in master Program; next 01 represents that the course serial number in the department. The last character P means prerequisite courses.

3.2 Credit Assignment

Courses of study for the EMCS degree shall be designed in terms of credit hours, which are defined/explained as below: Three class lectures of three contact hours per week per trimester will constitute Three Credit Hours.

3.3 Course Registration

A student has to register a minimum of 6 credits for prerequisite category and maximum of 12 credit and for required category a minimum of 12 hours and a maximum of 15 credit hours per trimester.

3.12 Earned Credits/ Qualifying Marks

i) The qualifying pass grade for a particular course is D, i.e. the courses in which a student has obtained D or a higher grade shall only be counted as credits earned by him/her. ii) Courses in which a student gets F grades shall not be counted towards credit hour requirements and for the calculation of Grade Point Average (GPA). iii) If a student obtains F grade in any course in any trimester, she/he may be allowed to repeat that course as per rules of this university. iv) A student shall withdraw officially from a course within two working weeks of the commencement of the trimester; otherwise, his grade in that course shall be recorded as F. A student may be permitted to withdraw and change his course within two working weeks of the commencement of the trimester with the approval of his Chairperson of the Department and the concerned course teacher(s). v) A student shall be allowed to appear at most two courses for the purpose of grade improvement during the entire program provided that his CGPA is less than 2.50 before the trimester he is appearing for the grade improvement.

4.0 Calculation of GPA

Grade Point Average (GPA) is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the courses passed by a student. For example, if a student passes four courses in a trimester having credits of C1, C2, C3, C4 and C5 and his/her grade points in these courses are G1, G2, G3, G4 and G5 respectively then,

CiGi GPA= where i=1 to 5 Ci A numerical example Suppose a student has passed five courses in a trimester and obtained the following grades: Course EMCS 651 EMCS 602 EMCS 603 EMCS 607 EMCS 609 Credit 3 3 3 3 3 Grade A+ C+ D B B Grade Points 4.00 2.50 2.00 3.00 3.00

Then his/her GPA for the trimester will be computed as follows: 3(4.00)+3(2.50)+3(2.00)+3(3.00)+3(3.00) GPA= - = 2.90 (3+3+3+3+3) Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated by averaging the GPAs secured in two or more successive trimesters.

5.0 Class Attendance

A student who has been absent for more than 25% of total classes without any acceptable reason, he/she shall not be allowed to sit for the trimester-end final examination of the respective course.

5.1 Irregular Student

i) A student who, on fulfilling the requirements of class attendance and assessment of class work after completion of the 18 credit theory courses excluding prerequisite courses fails to secure a minimum of 2.50 CGPA in the aggregate of the trimester-end examinations shall cease to be a regular student of this Program. He/she may, through the recommendation of the Chairperson of the Department, be allowed to sit for the examination in the next available trimester-end examination for at most two courses for the purpose of grade improvement as an irregular candidate.

ii) The course-end examination for an irregular candidate will be conducted normally according to the syllabus in force in the trimester in which he/she presents himself/herself for such examination. However, if there are major changes in the syllabus of the course or courses, the relevant Coordination Committee may consider for holding his/her examination according to the old syllabus.

iii) A student fail to complete the degree requirements within three consecutive trimesters will be treated as an irregular student.

iv) An irregular student shall not be considered to avail the resident student facilities of the university.

6.0 Degree to be awarded

A Student who has secured a minimum CGPA of 2.50 after successful completion of the theory course and Research project will be awarded a degree of EMCS in Computer Science and Engineering.

7.0 Year of Degree Awarded

The result of a candidate for a three-trimester Executive Master in Computer Science (EMCS) degree will be published in the year in which he/she fulfills the requirements for the degree.
