eINDIA: A Convergence of ICT Knowledge Share, Networking and Felicitations

the recently held eINdIA 2012 at HICC, Hyderabad, witnessed key decision makers & experts, administrators & policy makers, leaders & stakeholders, service providers & It-telecom vendors, consulting firms, ICt entrepreneurs & development agencies all converging on one platform technology is of no use unless it comes to the reach and affordability of the common man, said Sri N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra pradesh and honble chief guest, during the inauguration of the eighth edition of eIndia 2012. Indias largest ICt event comprising conferences, expo and awards was held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre on 15-16 November, 2012. Jointly organised by Elets technomedia pvt Ltd; Centre for Science, development and Media Studies (CSdMS); and the All India Council for technical Education (AICtE) and hosted by the Andhra pradesh Government and Mee Seva, the two-day event witnessed 30 panel discussions on ICt usage in governance, health and education. the summits offered a unique platform for in-depth knowledge exchange and networking for key decision makers & experts; administrators & policy makers; leaders & stakeholders; service providers & It-telecom vendors; consulting firms; ICt entrepreneurs and development

agencies. Apart from the seminal tracks, eINdIA Awards turned out to be the real showstopper of the event. Fiftyfour awards were given for ICt initiatives across governance, health and education under 24 separate categories. Interestingly, Moreover, the ICt expo with 110 exhibitors was a major attraction of eINdIA 2012. the event coincided with the first anniversary of Mee Seva the flagship scheme for electronic delivery of services by the Government of Andhra pradesh. Speaking about Mee Seva (at your service), the Chief Minister said that by issuing certificates and other documents through digital signatures, the state government had reduced dependence on the middlemen, thus introducing transparency in the system, timely delivery of services, and reducing wastage of public money. dr (Smt) Killi Kruparani, Minister of State for Communication & It, Government of India; dr Raghuveera Reddy N, Minister of Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Government of Andhra pradesh; and Sri ponnala Lakshmaiah, Minister for It & Communication, Government of Andhra pradesh also graced the occasion with their presence as guests of honour. besides, M Samuel, IAS Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) and Special Chief Secretary, Hyderabad; J Satyanarayana,

eGovernance Summit
the eGovernance summit witnessed eight sessions in the two days. the topics of panel discussions ranged from e-Governance in India; ICt deployment in public Safety & Security; Smart Cities; ICt in Energy & transportation; Aadhaar based Service delivery; From eSeva to Mee Seva: State Leadership Summit; ICt usage by public Sector units; and ICt usage in Financial Inclusion. Among the key speakers were J Satyanarayana, Secretary, Ministry of Communications & It, Govt of India; Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, It, Andhra pradesh; R S Sharma, director General & Mission director, uIdAI; Rajesh Agarwal, Secretary, It, Maharashtra; bipul pathak, Secretary, It, J&K; Madhusudan padhi, Secretary, It, Odisha; dr p V Ramesh, principal Secretary, department of Finance, Andhra pradesh; V V V Satyanarayana, General Manager, Financial Inclusion department, NAbARd, Mumbai; and p H Kurian, Secretary, It, Kerala. the achievements and benefits of Mee Seva and Aadhaar were the most emphasised points in the discussion panel.

Education Summit
the education seminal track was divided in two parts School Education and Higher Education. Overall, 14 panel discussions were held during two-day conclave. the topics for Higher Education included Challenges and Opportunities in Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions; Investment in Education; Vision 2020; transformatory practices in technical Education; Creating Innovative Models in Education; and best practices in Higher Education. under the School Education track, discussions were held on topics such as Essentials for building Visionary Schools in a Globalised World; Learning practices in the 21st Century; Alternative Assessment Strategies; StEM Education and tech Assisted tools for Student Comprehension; progressive Learning Environment through Connected Classrooms; blended Learning Curriculum & Supportive teaching; and training of Educators: Coping with Rapidly Changing Education technologies. prof S S Mantha, Chairman, All India Council for technical Education (AICtE); K Sunitha, Commissioner, directorate of Collegiate Education; prof parvin Sinclair, director, National Council for Educational Research and training (NCERt); prof u b desai, director, IIt Hyderabad; prof V S Rao, director, bItS Hyderabad Campus; Sanjay Singh, principal Secretary, department of School Education, Madhya pradesh; dr pascal Chazot, Head of School, Mahatma Gandhi International School; N Siva Sankar, Commissioner & director of School Education, Andhra pradesh; Son Kuswadi, Education Attache, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia; Andrey Shelukhin, Counselor(Science & technology), Embassy of the Russian Federation in India; and K Gopal, Managing director, tamil Nadu textbook Corporation were among the key speakers who included state education secretaries, vice-chancellors of universities, directors and faculty members of higher education institutes, and principals and chairmen of schools. the speakers focused on how institutions and academicians have an important role to play in the development of employability skills of the students and how ICt can be utilised as an integral tool in this direction.

Health Summit
In the two days, eINdIA witnessed eight sessions on panel health and telemedicine. discussions

took place around the Emerging paradigms in Healthcare; eHealth and mHealth; point of Care technologies and Chronic disease Management; Emerging trends in Health Insurance; patient Safety; Rural Health and the like. While aiming to provide a platform for dialogue on the health systems in India and beyond, the eINdIA Health Summit track was able to associate with various departments and representatives of state government departments, bodies like the National Accreditation board for Hospitals & Healthcare providers (NAbH) and others. the event speakers and attendees were from reputed hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, doctors, policy makers, researchers, health experts and industry members from Andhra pradesh, across India and abroad. Mee Seva
Conceived by Minister on N and Kiran launched Kumar Andhra pradesh Chief

Reddy in Chittoor district November 4, 2011, the Mee Seva Initiative of the state government was one of the key highlights of the event. With more than 6,000 Mee Seva counters operational across the state, rendering 45 Government -to- Citizen (G2C) services, the Chief Minister announced that efforts are on towards delivering 100 such services by March next year. the impact of Mee Seva initiative is such that it has helped in saving Rs 6,000 crore of the common man, said Sri Reddy. the Institute of public Enterprises, Hyderabad, and the digital Empowerment Foundation, New delhi, were assigned to evaluate customer satisfaction of Mee Seva. Reports prepared by both the institutes were released during the event. the IpE report stated that 98 percent of respondents have expressed their satisfaction towards Mee Seva services and 93 percent have mentioned that they have got their work done without paying any extra money. Current Adangal, Integrated Certificate and Income Certificate are among the best-ranked services, according to the report. the report by the dEF stated that Mee Seva is really about citizen empowerment and these changed processes have wide-ranging ramifications in better governance. Along with the report, Mee Seva Awards were also given during the event. today we are honouring the stakeholders who have done tremendous job in bringing Mee Seva from nowhere to where we are today, with 45 services clocking more than 70,000 transactions on a daily basis. today we have touched 7 million transactions under Mee Seva, said Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, It, Andhra pradesh. a larger section of students. For exhibitors in healthcare, the target audience was hospitals, medical institutes and medical professionals. the aim was to showcase how a particular software or portal or an It initiative could help in reducing the paperwork and hence the workload of hospital staff. Also how new systems could help in achieving higher accuracy in the diagnosis of diseases and better patient management. For exhibitors in eGovernance, the target audience was state and central government departments and pSus.

eINDIA National Essay Contest A New Initiative


Interestingly, eINdIA 2012 announced a new initiative in involving the youth and teenagers in its movement to promote innovations in the usage of ItC in governance, health and education. Its a step towards creating a platform for innovative young minds to share their perspective with industry players. As the first step in this direction, Elets technomedia pvt Ltd had organised an online national essay contest for teenagers and the youth. the objective was to assess the vision and understanding that todays youth have on governance, health and education. the topic was future of technology in governance, health and education sectors. the contest, which was completely online, received 250 participants out of which the winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up were felicitated during the event.

eINDIA Expo
the eINdIA Expo, which was organised at the same venue along with seminal tracks, had 110 exhibitors from across the country and received an overwhelming response by the attendees. the main aim of the exhibitors was to showcase their ICt solutions to the target audience. For exhibitors in education sector, the target audience was schools and higher education institutions and educationists. the focus was on how It initiatives could make learning a better experience for students and how such It initiatives could help institutes become more high-tech and reach out to

Conclusion
drawing a conclusion to the two-day event, Sanjay Jaju, It Secretary, Government of Andhra pradesh said: All three seminal tracks eGovernance, Health and Education were widely attended and response was overwhelming. As part of the Mee Seva anniversary and eINdIA it definitely repositions Hyderabad as the most preferred It destination. the event has witnessed so
