St.HOPEPublicSchools201213 ParentalInvolvementPolicy St.HOPEPublicSchools(SHPS;consistingof3distinctandseparateindependentcharterschools;St. HOPEPublicSchool7,OakParkPreparatoryAcademyandSacramentoCharterHighSchool)is committedtoworkingwithparentsandguardianstoprovidehighqualityeducationforallstudentsat theschools.Itisonlywhenstudents,parents,families,staff,teachers,administratorsandthe communitygetinvolvedthatstudentscancontinuetoincreaseacademicachievementandgrowas individualcitizens. Weencourageallparentstobeinvolvedintheirstudentseducationaswellastheoverallschool programsforthebenefitofallstudents.Tothisend,theschoolshaveestablished,inconjunctionwith parentgroupsandwithSt.HOPEPublicSchoolsBoardofDirectorsapproval,thefollowingParental InvolvementPolicytoprovideparentstheopportunitytobeinvolvedincreatingpolicies,decision making,andtakinganactiveroleasadvocateforallstudentsatPS7andSacHigh.

h. AspertheElementaryandSecondaryEducationAction(ESEA;section1118(a)),SHPSwillimplementthe followingstatutoryrequirements(ateachschoolseparatelyunlessotherwisenoted): SHPSwilltakethefollowingactionstoinvolveparentsinthejointdevelopmentofthelocalplanand theprocessofschoolreview: ConveneaSchoolSiteCouncilateachschoolconsistingofadministrators,teachers,staff, parents,andstudents(atSacHighonly)whoareenteredontothecouncilbypeervote(withthe exceptionofadministrators). Maketheschoolsiteplanavailabletoallparentsviaeachschoolswebsiteandalsoinhardcopy uponrequest. Provideparentswiththeopportunitytogiveinputintothelocalplanviasurveys,meetings,and othermeansasfeasibleandpractical. SHPSwilltakethefollowingactionstoplanandimplementeffectiveparentalinvolvementactivities toimprovestudentacademicachievementandschoolperformance: Provideallstaff,teachers,parents,andstudentswiththeschoolsSchoolParentCompact (CommitmenttoExcellenceContract)toidentifyactivitiesandresponsibilitiesfortheeducation ofallstudents. ReviewandrevisetheSchoolParentCompactannually(asnecessary)inconjunctionwiththe SchoolSiteCouncil. ProvideopportunitiestoreviewtheSchoolParentcompactwithparentsatbacktoschool nights/openhousesorother. Provideparentswithinformationregardingschoolperformance,curriculum,corecontent, studentassessments,andparentsrights. Provideparentswithfrequentanduptodateinformationonindividualstudentacademic progressinwriting,inperson,andviathePowerSchoolstudentinformationsystem.AtSacHigh parentswillreceive,andberequiredtosign,classroomgradesandattendanceonetimeper week(DataTuesdays)inadditiontoendofsemesterandtermgrades.AtPS7,parentswill receivefrequentprogressreports,includingendofquartergrades,andPS7willholdparent teacherconferencesaminimumoftwo(2)timesperyear.AtOPPA,parentswillreceivePREP ReportseveryFridayaswellastrimesterreportcards.

ProvideallparentsateachschoolwithacompletecopyoftheParentalInvolvementPolicyvia thestudenthandbook,directmailingorbacktoschoolnights/openhouseandbymakingthe planavailableateachschoolsmainofficebyOctober1(afterBoardofDirectorsapproval). UtilizeaParentLiaisonthatcoordinatesparentcommunication,workshops,activitiesandclubs toeducate,empowerandtrainparents(asfeasible). Holdbacktoschoolmeetings. Provide,asnecessary,trainingforparentstoenhanceinvolvementinspecificactivitiesor committees. Offeralternativeopportunitiesforparentinvolvementbyschedulingalternativemeeting dates/timeandconductinginhomeconferencesforthoseparentsunabletoparticipatein regularlyscheduledmeetings. SHPSwillcoordinateandintegrateparentalinvolvementstrategiesintootherprogramsby: Involvingcommunityorganizationsandbusinesses,includingfaithbasedorganizations,in parentalinvolvementactivities. SHPSwillconduct,withtheinvolvementofparents,anannualevaluationofthecontentand effectivenessoftheparentalinvolvementpolicyandusethefindingstodesignmoreeffective parentalinvolvementby: Identifyingbarrierstoparticipationbyparents(especiallylimitedEnglishproficiency,limited literacy,andminorityparents). Trackingparentvolunteeringandattendanceatschoolwidemeetings. SHPSwilltakethefollowingactionstoinvolveparentsintheactivitiesofTitleIschools: Holdanannualmeeting(foreachschoolseparately)toinformparentsoftheirschools participationinTitleI,TitleIrequirements,andtheirrighttobeinvolved. Totheextentfeasible,eachschoolwillvarymeetingtimes,dates,placestoincreaseparental involvement. Provideparentswithopportunitiestovolunteerandactivelysupportschoolinitiatives(i.e., charterrenewal)athis/herstudentsschool.ParentsofPS7studentswillberequiredto contribute40hoursofvoluntaryservicetotheschool. Utilizeavarietyofcommunicationmethodstoensureparentalinvolvement. SHPSwillprovidenoticeandinformationundertheParentsRighttoKnowrequirementstoall parentsinanunderstandableanduniformformat,andtotheextentpractical,inalanguageparents canunderstandviastudenthandbooks,parentschoolmeetings,andothermeansasnecessary.
