Answering the Call ~

Over the years, God has called me in various and interesting ways. Sometimes He used scripture; other times He used counselors; and more than once He spoke through divine circumstances. But this time the call has been different -clearer somehow. Knowing that my next destination would be long-term, I was hesitant to jump at any and every opportunity. I wanted to make sure I was hearing HIM and not just making an emotional decision. When I first left Sudan, I had eleven invitations to work in various parts of the world. They all seemed so amazing that I couldnt choose. So I started praying one of my favorite prayers. I prayed for God to close any door that wasnt His will. And wow did He answer quickly! Almost overnight nine of those opportunities closed in one way or another, leaving only two doors open --Mexico or Mozambique. I visited Mexico first and although the team was amazing, God didnt show me a clear need or vision while I was there. So I came back to the States and started preparing for Mozambique. When I got to Mozambique, I immediately was moved by the need. But I knew that wasnt good enough; Hed also have to give me a vision. So I waited and prayed. Half way through my time there, He showed me how to proceed. Please believe me when I say this call has been the clearest of my life! I look forward to telling you all about it in the coming updates. In Him alone,

Step one: The Baby Clinic

When dear friends first told me of the unused hospital in Mozambique, I was simultaneously intrigued and skeptical. How could such a well-kept hospital sit unused for seven years? But more than that... why would I be called to re-open it? I remember telling the missions directors in Mozambique that Id consider re-opening the hospital... but only as a birthing clinic. They were disappointed at first but still insisted I come in person to check it out. Their hope was perhaps Id change my mind and end up doing both. (Ha ha ha... that is exactly what happened.) The clinic itself is in immaculate condition. Its equipped with four consultation rooms (with desks, beds, medical equipment, etc.), a lobby, two bathrooms, and a nurses quarters. Although a far cry from a hospital in the States, to my eyes it is modern and beautiful --especially after S. Sudan. During my stay, God clearly set out a three-step vision to reach local villages with medical care and the love of Christ. ReThe clinic entrance.

Praise & Prayer

After a few delays, God has finally made it possible for me to work with Shepherds Staff again. Im very excited to be affiliated with such a great group. PTL! POLICE CLEARANCES One of my main obstacles in obtaining my Mozambican missionary visas is my need to have a police clearance from every country Ive worked in (aka: Philippines, Haiti, Sudan, and the States). This is proving to be VERY complicated. Pray that it comes together quickly. FAMILY HOLIDAYS In a desire to spend time with me before I take off for Africa, my family has gifted me with tickets to see them. That means I was able to spend Thanksgiving with my mom in Mexico, and Ill get to see my European family for Christmas! Praise Jesus!

opening this small hospital is the first step of this vision. Initially Ill take on an administrative role at the hospital while a Mozambican nurse cares for the patients. This will free me up to study languages and prepare for steps number two (opening a birthing clinic) and number three (starting a midwifery school). More on those steps later. Please pray for me as I answer this
