Above the church, in the rocks, there are remains of the medieval fortress of Greben grad. Monastery Gomionica (XVI century), is placed in the very heart of Krajina, in the village Kmeani, near Bronzani Majdan, 45 km from Banjaluka. According to some folk legends, the monastery was built by Stefan Nemanja and Saint Sava, and according to other stories it was built by a certain Empress Mara. Petar Koi attended a monastery school built in 1882, and made it famous through his short stories. In 1869, an organised group of strangers, Trapist monks, arrived to the surrounding area of Banjaluka. Shortly after their arrival, they built a mill on Vrbas, started cheese production, built a brewery, and in 1925. built the most important object of the Trapist monastery convent Marija Zvijezda, monasterys new church which was built in only a year.

In the heart of Ozren mountain, 7 km from Petrovo there is a monastery with the same name, dedicated to Holy Father Nicholas, which is believed to be endowment of Nemanjii, or even King Dragutin from XIII century. Since 1992, remains (right hand) of St. Marina, the Great Martyr are placed here. Jewish House of peace- Bejt Shalom- is situated in Doboj and for now it is the only Jewish cultural centre with synagogue in Republika Srpska. It was opened to the glory of God and to the joy and advantage of the Jewish people in 2003.

Gradika Laktai Srbac

Interesting Gradika is by name Serbinon or Serbinum mentioned in Ptolemys geography in II century, and it was also marked on a map (under the Mountain Biblia ore or Biblini montes, which, according to some Hungarian scientists are mountains Kozara and Grme). Istono Sarajevo Rogatica

Interesting Not far from Rogatica, on 1100 meters above sea level, there is a plateau Borike, known for its horse farm where Arabian horses and Bosnian ponies are bred. This horse farm provides opportunity for its visitors to try out their horseback riding skills, and enjoy horse carriage drive. Legend says that once upon a time, beautiful Kada got ill with tuberculosis and got well only by drinking water from springs below Jahorina. The place got name Kadas water (today Kadas spring) and became a famous vacation place for those who want forest quietness, pleasant smell of conifer woods and ripple of cold and clear mountain water. Building of this bridge is connected with construction of the famous bridge of Mehmed- Pasha Sokolovi in Viegrad (XVI century). Secrets of the underground Orlovaa Cave is a pearl of the underground in eastern part of Republika Srpska, placed only 10 km from municipality of Pale (Istono Sarajevo). Beauty of its ornaments is unique and its shapes and forms will leave you breathless. Orlovaa today is habitat of cave bat (microc hipoptrea), one of the most endangered mammals in Europe. Side by side with it, famous for its uniqueness and beauty, there are Novakova Cave and Cave on the spring of Mokranjska Miljacka.

Kalinovik - Foa
Exceptional NP Sutjeska is the oldest and largest national park in BiH, founded in 1962. and it is a member of European National Parks Federation, EUROPARC. The most valuable natural treasure is kept in strictly protected reservation Peruica, largest and best kept primeval forest in Europe. It is surrounded by highest mountain peaks: Magli (2.386 m), Volujak (1.978 m) and Snjenica (1.804 m), and it is divided from Zelengora by Sutjeska canyon. In Tjentite, central area of Sutjeska, there is a memorial monument for victims of a great II World War battle. Real masterpieces of nature are certainly the Sand pyramids, not far from Foa. Their shape resembles those in Colorado (USA), and avolja varo in Serbia. In 1960s parts of movies Captain Lechi and Winnetou were filmed here.

Magical springs For centuries, river Tara carved the limestone with its strength and created the deepest and most beautiful canyon in Europe (with dept over 1.300m). Over 50 fascinating waterfalls in this river are challenging for all adrenalin sports fans, including participants of World rafting championship in 2009. Zelengora, according to many, is the most beautiful mountain in this area. It is mild and calm, and unique for its 8 clear glacial lakes, called Mountain eyes. The oldest saying about existence of clock in BiH is related to Foa. Clock Tower (Sat kula) is a symbol of the town at the mouth of ehotina and Drina. It was made of stone in 1758. It is 20 m tall, has a shape of square prism, and it is endowment of Mehmed- Pasha Kukavica. St Nicholas Church in River elebika was built in 1843. There is an icon of St George there, made by Georgije Mitrofanovi in 1641. Icon was exhibited in Paris and Sarajevo. St Nicholas Church in Foa (XIX century) was built in style of modified old Raka Construction School. Two stone lion sculptures on both sides of bishops chair are especially interesting. Temple of Rising of the Holy Mother of God on Lue near Foa was built in 1834. Legend says that Mehmed Pasha Kukavica allowed construction of the church, neither larger than cows skin nor with roof taller than a man. It had to be built in the same place where it once had been. Local residents started building the church as it was approved. To serve its purpose, they dug it in the ground so it wouldnt be taller than Pasha ordered and in width it didnt grew larger than frame made of cows skin.

Hiking is the best way to meet the beauties of nature in NP Kozara. All paths are marked and can be walked around without a guide. There are hiking tours with guides for those who would like to see the wider area of NP Kozara. As a part of Memorial complex in Mrakovica, there is a hiking path for children, to satisfy the needs of the youngest visitors. For those craving for adventure and adrenalin rush, there is a prepared climbing rock in the area of Zeiji kamen. For all winter sports fans, there are two ski paths available, one for older visitors and one for the youngest. Large ski path is 600m long and has a ski lift with capacity of 900 skiers per hour. According to one of the legends, it is endowment of Nemanjii and according to other it was built in 113. in a place where St Theodore Tiron died. Monastery Klisina- was built in old monastery place from XV century and today is one of spiritual centres of north-west part of Republika Srpska.

Nevesinje Bilea Gacko Trebinje

Interesting Nevesinje Rifle is an event that put this place in general history textbooks of every country of the world. It represents rebellion and insurrection of the people that soon turned into great eastern crisis- question of further remaining of Turkish Empire in Balkans. Rebellion and insurrection were preceded by gathering and agreement of heads in churches and monasteries. On the bottom of the lake there is an abandoned village, evacuated before hydroelectric power plant was built. Treasury In the building of ex Gimansium, or Austro- Hungarian barracks, placed in old town of Trebinje, there is a Musem of Hercegovina, whose exhibits testify of rich history of this area. There is a collection of famous Trebinje poet Jovan Dui, of great artistic value. Bridges, Roman, Greek, and among them Arslanagia/Perovia bridge in Trebinje, is one of most beautiful examples of Ottoman Empire architecture. It is distinguished by its beauty of lines, imaginative, and picturesque. Village Mrkonjii is placed on the east side of Popovo polje, ot the road Trebinje-Ljubinje, and Holy Father Vasilije Ostroki was born there on 28.12.1610. Temple dedicated to St Vasilije was built on foundations of his birth house.

Hercegovina deep within keeps numerous spiritual sacred things, among them medieval monasteries Tvrdo, Dobrievo, Dui, Petropavlov. Magnificent building from 2000 is especially worth emphasizing- Hercegovaka Graanica in Trebinje dedicated to poet Jovan Dui. By his wish, stated in his will, Church of Holy Mother of God was built on the hill Crkvina above Trebinje, and Dui was buried in it.

Exceptional Andrigrad is tourist, cultural, administrative and educative complex placed in the peninsula between rivers Drina and Rzava, 300 meters from Viegrad Bridge. Is has become as an idea of professor Emir Kusturica to build medieval stone town inspired by works and characters of Nobel prize winner, Ivo Andri. In architectural way the town itself will be mixture of different epochs and styles that left their mark through history of this area: Byzantium style, Ottoman period, renaissance, classical period. Treasury Viegrad bridge, bridge that entered the legend, endowment of grand vizier Mehmed- Pasha Sokolovi, who was as a boy, as danak u krvi (a sort of the Turkish tribute where the Balkan boys were taken to Istanbul in order to become Ottoman soldiers, transl. note) taken to Istanbul, and became a vizier. Bridge was built in period from 1571. to 1577. by the most famous Turkish architect at the time, Koda Mimar Sinan. It was built in oriental style and represents masterpiece of construction of that period. In 2007. bridge was enlisted in UNESCO list of world cultural heritage. It was taken to legend directly because of the novel of famous writer Ivo Andri, The Bridge on the Drina also known as Viegrad chronicles, rewarded with Nobel Prize for literature.

Monastery Dobrun (XIV century), 10 km from Viegrad keeps rich history, culture and tradition of this area. Not far from the monastery there are remains of medieval fortified city Dobrun. As a part of monastery complex, there is a Museum of First Serbian uprising, gallery of paintings in Karaorevii house, as well as Museum of Mitropolija Dabrobosanska.

Church of Rising of Holy Mother of God was built in the mid XIX century. Its greatest gem is one of the most beautiful and oldest kept icons in BiH, double icon ajnika krasnica from early XIV century. Direct testimony of the time of medieval Bosnian Kingdom is Church of St George in Sopotnica, not far from Gorade (XV century). In this church in XVI century 3 books were printed and published: Sluabnik, Psaltir i Molitvenik, because from 1519. to 1526. there was a printing house of Boidar Goradanin working under the wing of the church, one of the oldest in this area (second in Balkans, after Makarijes in Montenegro).

ekovii Han Pijesak Vlasenica Milii Srebrenica

Clear, active, relaxing Peruac lake represents one of the most significant hydro accumulations in region. It is 30 km southeast of Srebrenica. It is navigable through all its length, which gives tourists a chance to sail between National Park Tara (Serbia) and protected hunting ground Suica (Republika Srpska). During sail you can film incredible landscapes, wild animals, Picea omorika (the Serbian Spruce), and other rare specimens of flora and fauna. Besides, lake is interesting for its organised tourist trips, where you can sail all the way to Viegrad Bridge. Favourable hydrographical conditions, numerous river currents, river Drina, lake Peruac with rich and diversity of fish species, represent extraordinary fishing compounds for all types of fishing. It is important to emphasize that in the area of Srebrenica there are most attractive hunting grounds in RS, most famous of which is hunting ground Suica, thus this area of RS is a real heaven for fishing and hunting fans.

Treasury In the road ekovii Zvornik, in beautiful mountain area with clear springs and dense forests, there are two monasteries which represent real oasis of peace and spirituality. Monastery Lovnica is placed in Donji Bira, in the spring of river Lovnica by which it got its name. Its most valuable sights are: one of the best biographies form Turkish period saved on churchs walls and Museum of Peoples Liberation Combat placed in restored monastery shelter.

Monastery Papraa with one of the biggest churches in RS/BiH, is classified as one of the greatest accomplishments of Moravska school of architecture. According to one of the legends, monastery was built by King Dragutin and his sons, and according to other it is endowment of ruler Vukan, who raised it as a sign of remorse for almost changing his religion. Some legends say that it is an endowment of Stefan Nemanja or even one of the sisters of Serbian Czar epan. In Skelani near Srebrenica remains of antic town Municipium Malvesiatum (IV century a.d.) were discovered in 2008. Central emperors palace, villa rusticana and many other exhibits were discovered, so this area was declared cultural monument of great importance and registered as future Archaeological Museum Skelani. It is important to mention that Gornji Potoari, Osredak, Ljeskovik and Krst are homes of medieval burial grounds from XIV and XV century with standing tombstones and graves with built stone tiles. Exceptional In mountain Javor, ski fans can enjoy their favourite discipline in Ski centre Igrita, placed near the highway Belgrade Sarajevo, only 7 km from Vlasenica. This ski centre was built in 1984, for purposes of Winter Olympics Sarajevo 84, as auxiliary ski centre. It has 6 km of organised paths and Javorova Poljana- location accustomed for beginners and youngest skiers. Ski centre has 3 ski lifts. Large ski lift, plate- shaped, and small ski lifts (1 anchor- shaped and 1 shovelshaped).

Ribnik Mrkonji ipovo

Treasury Town Sokol above the canyon of river Sokonica. (1336.) Prizrenac (or Prizren), watch tower, placed high on the right side of river Sana canyon. Legends says that from the fortress Prizrenac and Red Rocks, queen Kosana known as Black Queen, successfully defended herself from the superior Turkish army. Reason of her defeat was betrayal. Seeing that after fortress fell and defeat was inevitable, queen Kosana let her army go, and put all her valuable possessions in large stone tub, locked it with magic, turned herself in a black snake and stayed to guard the fortress and the treasure. Legends also says that, when a young man with a pure heart who never had a girlfriend before, arrives and kisses her on St Georges Day, this black snake will turn itself again into a girl of astonishing beauty, merry that man and give him all her treasure. Medieval fortress Boac, placed over Vrbas canyon, was built wit mission to guard crossing the river. This fortress is first mentioned in 1446.

Miracle in Medna, in the valley of river Mednjaka below mountain Dimitor, in village not far from Mrkonji- Grad, remains of three monks were found, 340 years old. It has happened recently. According to Petras vision, since she was a girl, she has been seeing the monks. Remains were transferred to Church of Holly Mothers Birth, but how they died and where they came from, remains to be determined. According to one legend, they came from Herzegovina, Monastery of St Peter and Paul.
