Corinne Pennock Artifact Reflection Differentiated Instruction

I have chosen this artifact for the standard for differentiated instruction in the classroom. It is described by a competent teacher that plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement. This particular artifact addresses the knowledge indicator 29C. understands how to design, select, modify and evaluate materials in terms of the reading needs f the learner. This artifact addresses the performance indicator 29P. provides continuous monitoring of student progress through observations, work samples, and various informal reading assessments. This particular artifact was chosen because it demonstrates my ability to give my students the chance for accommodations, modifications, and interventions in my classroom. This artifact specifically addresses my ability to adapt my lessons to student performance data as well as keep track of this data and use it to mine and the students advantage. The knowledge indicator is addressed by my ability to design and modify reading materials for students that meet their specific learning needs. I am able to select parts of the readings, record them, and then have the student listen to the recording to keep them on track while meeting their IEPs or specific needs. The performance indicator is addressed by my ability to continuously monitoring the student progress through observations and keeping data on the work that they complete and turn in. There are various types of progress monitoring that is displayed within the artifact and these will help me to keep data for the students and their parents. This artifact demonstrates my growth and development as a teacher through the fact that this is a differentiated lesson plan but not just with different activities. I have differentiated the activities to meet IEPs or the students abilities, behaviors, and situations. My growth as a teacher is demonstrated through the fact that I can incorporate accommodations, modifications, as well as interventions within an everyday lesson plan. My development as a teacher is demonstrated through my ability to form a progress monitoring system that meets the students needs as well as keep data within it. I am able to develop at least one new monitoring system for the student. The data I collect would then influence what I would do for the student in the future based on their reaction to their already differentiated instruction.
