DRAKE UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENATE REPRESENTING THE STUDENTS OF DRAKE UNIVERSITY

We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in accordance with our duties and bylaws, do hereby pledge our support for the organization Bulldog Swing Society and grant them all the rights and privileges of a full University organization. In the Drake University Student Senate 29 November 2012

MOTION SS [121115] A; Bulldog Swing Society Approval To approve the recommendation made by the Student Affairs Committee (SAC), in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate. 1. Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate to confirm the approval of new organizations at Drake University; Whereas, Bulldog Swing Society has fulfilled all the necessary requirements to be an organization at Drake University; Whereas, the purpose of the organization is to educate students at Drake about swing dance and the swing culture; Whereas, Bulldog Swing Society has worked in collaboration with other organizations on campus to share swing dance and culture; Whereas, the organization seeks to provide a fun, social, and safe environment for both students and the surrounding community to come learn and enjoy the culture of the dance; Whereas, there are currently over eleven members and the organization is looking to recruit additional participation; Whereas, Bulldog Swing Society is open to any and all students at Drake University; Whereas, the organization has sustainability plans in place to pass along leadership at Drake University;

Now, therefore, be it Moved. That Bulldog Swing Society be recognized as a full and official organization of the Student Senate, with all the rights and privileges thereof.

We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in an effort to support programming that improves student life, to better the experience of Drake University students, and to provide a memorable experience to students, do hereby move that $2,342.00 be allocated to Intervarsity Christian Fellowship to cover transportation and lodging costs associated with the Urbana Student Missions Conference. In the Drake University Student Senate 29 November 2012

MOTION SS [121129] A; Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Urbana Conference Funding Allocation To approve the recommendation made by the Student Fees Allocation Committee (SFAC), in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate. 1. Whereas, the mission of Urbana is is to establish and advance at colleges and universities witnessing communities of students and faculty who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord; Whereas, Urbana Student Missions Conference will occur on December 27 th-30th, 2013 in St. Louis, Missouri; Whereas, students will have the opportunity to be engaged with global issues; Whereas, the conference will have training and educational sessions on issues such as leadership, poverty and justice, and international ministry; Whereas, twenty (20) students will be attending the conference and have already paid the registration costs associated with the conference;

Now, therefore, be it Moved. That, Drake University Student Senate allocates $2,342.00 to Intervarsity Christian Fellowship to cover transportation and lodging costs associated with the Urbana Conference.

DRAKE UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENATE REPRESENTING THE STUDENTS OF DRAKE UNIVERSITY


We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in an effort to support programming that improves student life, to better the experience of Drake University students, and to provide a memorable experience to students, do hereby move that $850.00 be allocated to Mens Club Volleyball to cover registration fees associated with the Midwest Plains Conference. In the Drake University Student Senate 29 November 2012

MOTION SS [111027] B; Mens Volleyball Club Conference Fees Funding Allocation To approve the recommendation made by the Student Fees Allocation Committee (SFAC), in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate. 1. 2. 3. 4. Whereas, the goal of Mens Club Volleyball is to continue the progression of the club and seek out competition to make the organization seen and known; Whereas, the Midwest Plains Conference would allow the organization to participate in four (4) tournaments against well-established, competitive teams; Whereas, Mens Club Volleyball has been apart of the conference in the past and has hosted a tournament last year; Whereas, Mens Club Volleyball hopes to host a tournament at Drake University after joining the conference this year;

Now, therefore, be it Moved. That, Drake University Student Senate allocates $850.00 to Mens Club Volleyball to cover registration fees associated with the Midwest Plains Conference.

We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in an effort to support programming that improves student life, to better the experience of Drake University students, and to provide a memorable experience to students, do hereby move that $2,000.00 be allocated to Drake Sportsmens Club to cover membership and supply costs associated with the shooting range. In the Drake University Student Senate 29 November 2012

MOTION SS [121129] C; Drake Sportsmens Club Funding Allocation To approve the recommendation made by the Student Fees Allocation Committee (SFAC), in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate. 1. Whereas, the mission of Drake Sportsmens Club is to educate students in the safe enjoyment of firearms through proper instruction and regular exposure to a wide variety of makes and models; Whereas, the organization would like to increase shooting safety and awareness for members of the Drake community; Whereas, the funding would cover range costs for the scholastic year where all members of the organization are able to participate in at no charge; Whereas, the First Shots program would help the organization achieve their mission of educating students in the safe enjoyment of firearms through proper instruction;

Now, therefore, be it Moved. That, Drake University Student Senate allocates $2,000.00 to Drake Sportsmens Club to cover membership and supply costs associated with the shooting range.

DRAKE UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENATE REPRESENTING THE STUDENTS OF DRAKE UNIVERSITY

We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in accordance with our duties and bylaws, do hereby pledge our support for the organization DUH Magazine as an organization funded under the Board of Student Communications and grant them all the rights and privileges of a group funded by the BSC. MOTION SS [121129] D; DUH Magazine BSC Funding Approval 1. Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate to confirm the approval of organizations to be funded under the purview of the Board of Student Communications at Drake University; Whereas, DUH Magazine is an active organization at Drake University; Whereas, this organization is an annual publication; Whereas, the organization is in need of BSC to sustain its publication into the future; Whereas, the Student Affairs Committee felt that this organization is prepared to make proper use of BSC funding; Whereas, DUH Magazine meets all requirements to be funded by the BSC;

We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in accordance with our duties and bylaws, do hereby pledge our support for the organization Drake Pharmacy (Rx) Unified Group of Students (DRxUGS) as an annually funded organization and grant them all the rights and privileges of an annually funded group. MOTION SS [121129] E; Drake Pharmacy (Rx) Unified Group of Students (DRxUGS) Annual Funding Approval 1. Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate to confirm the approval of new annually funded organizations at Drake University; Whereas, Drake Pharmacy (Rx) Unified Group of Students (DRxUGS) is an active organization at Drake University; Whereas, this organization has already utilized one time funding to assist with costs of events; Whereas, the Student Affairs Committee felt that DRxUGS would use annual funding to make a positive and widespread impact on Drakes student body; Whereas, the organization is in need of annual funding to sustain its events into the future; Whereas, the Student Affairs Committee felt that this organization is prepared to make proper use of annual funding; Whereas, DRxUGS meets all requirements to be annually funded;

We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in accordance with our duties and bylaws, do hereby pledge our support for the organization DUH Magazine and grant them all the rights and privileges of a full University organization. In the Drake University Student Senate 29 November 2012

MOTION SS [121129] F; DUH Magazine Approval To approve the recommendation made by the Student Affairs Committee (SAC), in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Drake University Student Senate. 1. Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate to confirm the approval of new organizations at Drake University; Whereas, DUH Magazine has fulfilled all the necessary requirements to be an organization at Drake University; Whereas, the purpose of the organization is to provide Drakes campus with a critically engaging magazine publication; Whereas, DUH Magazine has been coordinating publications for eight years; Whereas, the publications are centered around a theme chosen each spring semester; Whereas, there are currently 26 staff members consisting of editors, designers, writers and photographers; Whereas, DUH Magazine is looking to maintain stability within the publication; Whereas, organization members are in the process of drafting the edition for Spring 2013; Whereas, DUH Magazine is open to any and all students at Drake University;

We, the members of the Drake University Student Senate, in accordance with our duties and bylaws, do hereby pledge our support for the organization UNICEF at Drake as an annually funded organization and grant them all the rights and privileges of an annually funded group. In the Drake University Student Senate 29 November 2011

MOTION SS [121129] G; UNICEF at Drake Annual Funding Approval 1. Whereas, it is the duty of the Student Senate to confirm the approval of new annually funded organizations at Drake University; Whereas, UNICEF at Drake is an active organization at Drake University; Whereas, this organization has already utilized one time funding to assist with costs of events; Whereas, the Student Affairs Committee felt that UNICEF at Drake would use annual funding to make a positive and widespread impact on Drakes student body; Whereas, the organization is in need of annual funding to sustain its events into the future; Whereas, the Student Affairs Committee felt that this organization is prepared to make proper use of annual funding; Whereas, UNICEF at Drake meets all requirements to be annually funded;

We, the members of Drake University Student Senate, in an effort to continually improve Drake University, express our approval for the initiative Forget Bottled Water and therefore support the banning of the sale of bottled spring water on Drake Universitys campus. In the Drake University Student Senate 29 November 2012

RESOLUTION SR [121129] H; Endorsement of Drake University Banning the Sale of Bottled Spring Water 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Whereas, this student led initiative has received over 740 student signatures in support of this cause; Whereas, over 40 organizations have also pledged to support this initiative; Whereas, bottled spring water has no additional additives and bears no difference to the more sustainable option of tap water; Whereas, Des Moines has been ranked by Forbes as having the cleanest tap water in the nation; Whereas, bottled spring water has been proven to be harmful to both the environment and personal health; Whereas, over 90 colleges around the country have already banned the sale of plastic water bottles; Whereas, this initiative is also meeting with Faculty Senate, Drakes Suitability committee, AllStaff Council, Drake Athletics, and the Presidents Cabinet to further voice support for this cause; Whereas, supporting this initiative aligns with Drakes mission statement of being a responsible, global citizen; Whereas, in supporting this initiative, Student Senate also recommends installing more hydration stations and making reusable water bottles available to every Drake student to make tap water more assessable to students;

10. Whereas, supporting this initiative will provide a positive direction for Drakes future; Now, therefore, be it Resolved. That Drake University Student Senate recommends and supports that Drake University bans the sale of bottled spring water beginning in the 2013 2014 school year.
