This class will focus on the events that have shaped our contemporary world and our view of that world. Students and the instructor will collaboratively weave together a narrative of the major events and figures of the last century. This will be done through lectures, student presentations, visual constructions, readings, and discussions. The quality of this class depends in large part on the quality of the students work. Evaluations: Historical Biography Presentation 30% o Captioned Biographical Collage This collage must include an image of the subject and the subjects name along with at least ten images related to the life and times of the subject. Paper size should be no less than 187 inches2. Each image must be numbered and explained in a typed caption on a separate sheet of paper. o 15-minute presentation This presentation will deal with the subjects life and the important historical events in which he was involved. Geography Exam (World Geography) 10% Discussion Leading and Participation in Student-Led Discussion 30% o Each student is responsible for leading the discussion of a reading. The student leader should become an expert on the subject matter discussed in that reading and should have at least 5 questions meant to inspire discussion of the reading prepared along with notes on the reading. These questions and notes will be handed in and will be evaluated along with the students performance in leading the discussion. Daily Quizzes (Comprehension of the Reading and the Previous Days Lecture, Discussions, and Presentations) 30% o Short daily quizzes will be administered to ensure that students are keeping up with the material presented in all aspects of the class. 70% of the available points are required to pass this class.
