A day full of Safari-Themed Musical Adventures for students in 1st-5th grade. Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 9:15am to 1:30pm Trinity Lutheran Church, 3223 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311 (across the street from the Education Building, and Ross Apartments)

This event is FREE and lunch will be provided!

Instrumental Safari: listen to musical instruments and play them yourself. Swinging Under the Savannah: learn a dance to express emotions held in music Call of the Wild: learn exciting nature-themed songs Please join us at the end of the day for a concert, where students will show what they have learned. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Songs of the Savannah: A Musical Safari

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Pi chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota would like to invite children currently in 1st through 5th grades to an exciting day of music appreciation. Songs of the Savannah: A Musical Safari will be taking place on Saturday, April 2nd from 9:15a.m.-1:30p.m at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 3223 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311. The event is free and a lunch will be provided.

Songs of the Savannah: A Musical Safari will be a day full of musical adventure that will inspire the children and give them a better understanding of music. The students will take a journey to different kingdoms. On the first stop, Instrumental Safari, they will be able to see, hear, and even try a variety of musical instruments, from a flute to a trombone. Continuing on their journey they will learn how to show emotions through song and dance at the Swinging Under the Savannah station. The final stop will be the Call of the Wild where they will learn jungle/safari themed songs. At the end of the event, the children will demonstrate their new knowledge of music, rhythm, and dance by giving a small concert for parents and guardians.

Sigma Alpha Iota is an international music fraternity for women. The Pi chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota at Drake University is made up of students from around the U.S. that have come together to share their love of music with one another and the community. Sigma Alpha Iota understands that children everywhere should have the opportunity to experience music in school and believes it is important to reach out into the community and spread music appreciation.
